What is DC Entertainment doing? What is their plan? - Part 1

Well if they were all in the same cohesive continuity, then yeah it would make things seem planned

Who cares if they are "in-conitinuity" or not. Whether it's a shared Universe on a narrative level is immaterial. These shows must have been in the planning stages during that whole year all we heard was whining about WB/DCE's lack of a "plan". But turns out, they did have a plan that we now know for sure included exploiting characters on network tv as well as two follow up films to MOS. And now we have seemingly weekly rumors of a full film slate. I'm not saying I believe the film slate rumors as yet. But if true... It means there was a plan.

When people say "Dc has no plan, they mean".they mean "WB has no plan for a Cohesive Cinematic Universe".Until now there was no reason that really had any.Tv shows in a non cohesive continuity furthers the idea.

I'm glad that the goal posts can be moved so easily. Next time maybe specify that it must be a totally cohesive narrative franchise.

Oh, the usual fanboy jibber jabber.

Its not goal post moving. Thats exactly what Fans have wanted- a cinematic universe like Marvels.

So... EVERYTHING has to fit into that, now revealed frame work, other wise there was never any planning? So if the shows don't link up with the films, it's just auto fail, even if the films link up?

Zod in heaven....

Thats not what Im saying. You said that the tv shows are evidence of a Plan for a cinematic universe. Im pionting out that the tv shows are not since they have nothing to do with the DC cinematic universe.Thats all Im saying

WB has a different approach towards the DC characters than Marvel approach.

A cohesive universe which includes TV series and movies may not be the best approach for the DC characters, but for Marvel it could be the best approach.

Formula adopted by one company may not fit the other company simply because both are adapting comics.

Edit: As far as I can remember, some months ago fans were complaining that WB owns many comic book characters but hey have no plans to use them, they just like to sit on their properties and do nothing.

Now, that complaint has changed to why WB is not following the Marvel roadmap to develop their comic book properties into a unified cohesive universe. (and series of solo movies leading upto Justice League.)

It seems to me that DC is taking a "reverse-Marvel" approach. They're introducing the characters in a team movie, then giving them solo movies afterwards. That may not be the best of ideas, business wise, but at least they won't be accused of copying Marvel.

Considering how well the phase 2 films did at the BO, I think releasing solo films after team ups is a great strategy for WB.

Completely agreed. When you think about it... the phase 1 solo films didn't even make Marvel that much money. IM and IM2 did really well though.. but still look at Phase 2's box office intake... there's clearly an Avengers boost..

Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and The Flash movies will all do SIGNIFICANTLY better once they've been introduced in films alongside Superman and Batman.

I think a Flash movie will do well but I've been on record that I do not think a Wonder Woman movie will do well at all. That character is not as popular as people make it out to be. She's well known but there's a huge difference between that and popularity. She's only had one medium since the 70's and that was a cartoon movie but at the time, it was one of DC's worst movies as far as sales. It was a good movie but I just don't the character has really been "gotten" yet. A lot of comic fans or writers don't understand the character truly(though Bruce Timm did the best job IMHO)so I'm just not sold on a Wonder Woman movie just yet. Green Lantern could have done well but that movie was just off. I honestly don't know how that could have happened. It was the first superhero movie that I actually fell asleep while watching. Not sure how Shazam could do. If the Rock is Black Adam, that is perfect casting but depends on who they get for Captain Marvel and the tone of the movie, it's truly a wildcard. I can't lie though, I'd love to see Snyder's take on Batman. He seems to dark and gloomy well. Just my two cents.

I just made a post on how Wonderwoman can be modernised for the new audiences on this page

Yep, whereas Shazam and Sandman would be unaffected since they're unrelated to JL (presumably), thus why they can come out sooner.

*cough* Honestly, I think its still a bit of a stretch to say "DC has a plan". Or rather, I think their TV division does actually have something of a plan. Movies? They've made announcements, but that means nothing if they end up constantly changing, which I suspect they will. For one thing, I'm pretty sure there "plan" was completely different prior to MoS coming out.

Don't give a honest but contrary post here or you will be labeled "a hater." :whatever:

What exactly is honest about an uninformed opinion and guesswork?

I swear some of you guys...

Don't get how that post is honest. Neither you nor him know if WB has a plan or not. So I don't get how saying I don't think WB has a plan I think it changed is honest now?

Well according to DC current plan their phase one lineup will be MOS,BVS and JL.

For their phase 2 I would like MOS2, WW, AQUAMAN ,SHAZAM ,JL2
For their phase 3 I would like MOS3, WW2, AQUAMAN2 ,SHAZAM2 ,JL3
All this while we'd have the CW flash and GL tv shows running-helping publicize the characters. However when the movies hit phase 4 the tv shows will come to end. This is because the movie versions of Flash and GL will come out in phase 4.
For their phase 4 I would like FLASH, WW3 , AQUAMAN3, SHAZAM3 ,GL
For their phase 5 I would like BATMAN ,SUICIDE-SQUAD ,FLASH, GL ,YOUNG JUSTICE

If they wait that long for a 1st Batman solo it will probably have to be someone other than Affleck.

I'm very skeptical about the rumored plan. Don't see them making a Shazam movie for one and don't think they'll make a WW movie once they realize that Gal Gadot can't act her way out of a paper bag. It will probably be JLA, Superman and Batman movies from now on. So if we keep getting JLA movies then that's at least a little bit of progress.

I Really REALLY hope you wrong in this.But....yeah......

Besides BvS, Gal Gadot is now filming Triple Nine, which has a great cast:

Aaron Paul
Norman Reedus
Kate Winslet
Teresa Palmer
Woody Harrelson
Chiwetel Ejiofor
Casey Affleck
Anthony Mackie

She can't be that bad when you have such a cast of good actors, time will tell.
