It's a shame this movie turned out the way it did. Had it been more thoughtfully put together, I think it might have been something special. A wealthy businessman manipulating the media and governments to his own ends is a really strong (not to mention relevant) concept for a villain, but unfortunately the writers kind of squandered it and the actor wasn't helping matters by hamming it up so much either. I also think it's a shame they didn't make better use of the Chinese locations they had. As it stands though, Tomorrow Never Dies feels like a bog standard, paint-by-numbers Bond flick.
Brosnan continues to be... Brosnan. I think he deliberately tried to be all things to all people. He tried to play Bond as a pastiche of all the previous actors' strengths, and I'm sure if you're a Brosnan fan you probably think that makes him the proverbial "total package", whereas I view his performance as more of a "jack of all trades, master of none" type of thing. He just comes across as very bland to me and doesn't seem to have any definable qualities of his own. Eh... whatever. That's enough about Brosnan.
Despite its mediocrity, I won't say I loved the movie, but I enjoyed it.
