I've always been extremely hesitant to say the latest thing in a series is my favorite. I feel like it's far too easy to get swept up in the hype and be blinded by the shiniest newest thing, too easily forgiving it of its faults, and forgetting all the great predecessors that came before it. But god damn if Skyfall isn't an incredible movie.

I liked Daniel Craig as Bond in his previous two outings, but he really made the role his own in this movie and solidified him as my favorite Bond yet. (Assuming he doesn't somehow **** up the next two movies.) Naomi Harris was great, and I loved the idea of Moneypenny being a field agent. Javier Bardem gave us a future classic Bond villain in Silva. Ralph Fiennes wasn't in the film much, but I very much look forward to his portrayal of M in future movies. Speaking of M, I know Judi Dench has been somewhat decisive among Bond fans, but I always liked her and felt she got a fantastic sendoff in Skyfall. I'm not even going to get into the technical aspects of the film, but sufice it to say, I think it was all top notch work.

The film isn't without its drawbacks however. I know it was the 50th anniversary and everything, but I feel like it was perhaps a little too nostalgic for its own good. Having the classic Aston Martin is one thing, but putting an ejector seat and machine guns in it as well? Come on. I also roll my eyes at the Dark Knight-isms in the movie. Oh, you're telling me the eccentric bad guy got captured ON PURPOSE? And it's all part of some big scheme? Gee I haven't seen that a dozen times in the last few years.

Having said that though, whatever flaws the film may have are pretty minor when looking at the big picture. I don't think there's such a thing as perfect movie, and certainly not a perfect James Bond movie, but for my money Skyfall is as close to a perfect Bond movie as one could reasonably expect.

5/5

What's wrong with that? Plus, that scene gave me a hard-on. :o

I was kind of pissed at how they blew it up though.

The Grand Budapest Hotel

It's a heart felt comedy from Wes Anderson that is somewhat different from his past films. It's still got the same signature look you'd expect, but the comedy this time around feels more like something you'd expect from the Three Stooges oddly enough. Who knew Ralph Fiennes have a great comedic timing, he was really great. The plot is pretty straightforward that you've seen a bunch of times, but it's the actors who made it work. Overall it's not his best film (which still goes to Fanastic Mr Fox), but it's a definite second.
8.5/10

Angelina Jolie is fantastic in the titular role and the film is visually stunning. 7.5/10

Yeah, I thought that only Disney/Marvel movies had extra scene.....

Hang Em' High: 8.5/10. I like how the one lyncher stopped the others from robbing Eastwood before he'd been lynched.

Chef: I have a food ***** the size of Kentucky/10

X-men: days of future past: loved it.

3.5/5 I got a bit teary eyed at the end.

Raiders of The Lost Ark - On the big screen at my local theater. Truly amplified the classic experience.

Godzilla 2014- Second viewing. Despite some of it's noticeable flaws I can find some enjoyment in it. It did feel like I was getting reacquainted with an old friend getting to see big G appear again.

Gung Ho (1986) - well, most of it

Police Academy 2: Their First Assignment (1985)

Edge Of Tomorrow - 4/5

REALLY enjoyed this, quite surprising how much I did. This is the best video game movie that isn't a video game adaption since Scott Pilgrim vs The World.
