A not so well thought out horror film that features a pretty a couple that I did not root for. The whole mystery behind Mr Jones was far from scary or at the very least entertaining. The overall story is kinda hard to follow and what you get out of it is at the last few minutes of the movie, but then it was too late. It's a shame when the only redeemable qualities for a movie is... the location looks great and so was the chick in this movie. 2/10
8.5/10 Wow, this one is just frickin badass. The action is beautifully slick (no shakycam, thanks), Emily Blunt is awesome, Tom Cruise is perfectly cast, and the pacing is damn near perfect. This was a big surprise.
There comes a time where you get a great concept and/or story and either the actors or the director fumbles it and becomes a crappy movie...thankfully this is not the case. With the help of Doug Liman and Christopher McQuarrie, they managed to take this Groundhogs Day/Gears of War concept from a novel and made it work on film. This very much feels like a perfect adaption of a video game that never existed. You get the feel of wanting to pick up your controller and play this movie. I loved how they edited this movie, at first I thought the respawn aspect would get tiresome but it never did. It always tried to do something different as it goes along. Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt was perfect, the chemistry was there and individually are strong characters. I am eagerly waiting for Emily Blunt to pick a superhero role...and it's a shame she missed Wonder Woman. I loved the humor they brought in, it served a movie like this very well. If there's any weak stops, I thought the aliens could've been more original in their design, it looks like something we've seen over and over. Overall it's a great solid summer blockbuster. 9/10
A Million Ways to Die in the West
A pretty decent 2nd film for Seth MacFarlane, it offers both more of a drama than comedy and for the most part I worked really well. The movie took some influences from Blazing Saddles but crafted it under MacFarlane's type of humor. The best moments from the movie is whenever it's just Seth MacFarlane and Charlize Theron. 8/10
Jurassic Park and The Lost World. Jurassic Park is as phenomenal as it ever was, terrific score from Williams, terrific vibe and great mix of special effects. The T rex scene is masterful, built without the music and with big dose of hypersensitivity created by the sound design. Great stuff. The Lost World on the other hand was hard to finish. JP III is so bad I tried to rewatch it about 3 times over the years and it was just so corny, cheesy and bad I just couldnt stand it longer than 15 minutes, so as of now, Ive only seen it once in full when it hit theaters
It was, but its just too mindless to enjoy, too unrealistic. In the first, Lex and Tim put on a terrific performance of shocked, shaking, traumatized kids, in the third the kid doesnt seem affected by anything at all, and theres just too many gags
