Oh brother indeed. Just more of the same. With the villain being all decked out in 80s gear, this movie feels like it was selling a mixtape. Gru finding out about his twin brother is as cliche as you can get. The only part I enjoyed was the a couple of scenes with the Minions and the 80s villain. Overall, it's just bleh.

The Little Hours

I had fun with it. This movie is like if they took the concept of Mean Girls and combined it with Drunk History and aired it on IFC. Alison Brie, Kate Micucci, Aubrey Plaza, and the rest of the cast just seems like they were having a lot of fun on set playing nuns. Was not expecting to see Nick Offerman to show up but that was also great to see. The movie is straight up goofy and there's a lot of funny moments through out it. Overall, it's a Monty Python-esque comedy that works for the most part

The Layover (2017)

Yeah.. It's Yin and Yang.. err - Daddario and Upton - in the same movie. Some guy they both fancy and stuff. I think. Most of it went blank. Daddario's signature hypnotizing eyes on that dull poster might be the most interesting in this production, despite the obvious pool scene.

The Purge: Election Year (2016)

I think the social commentary on classism and population control is probably more interesting than the over-the-top violence in this film series but for anyone who enjoyed the last sequel this is more of the same gory exploitive grindhouse action and suspense. Frank Grillo's performance in this as well as the last movie made me think he might be decent in the role of the Punisher.

The Grandmother (1970)

Trippy surreal, abstract and bizarre it combines animated sequences with live actors and uses virtually no dialogue. Left me wondering what the hell I just watched but an interesting visual experiment and I think a must see for David Lynch fans.

The Amputee (1974)

Another David Lynch short film where a woman with both her legs amputated writes a letter narrated by her inner monologue while having her bandages changed by a nurse. Lynch who plays the nurse begins cleaning her leg stumps which begin to puss and bleed until he seems overwhelmed and leaves frame. It replays an almost identical version of itself shot on different black and white film stock.

Dracula’s Daughter (1936)

The pacing in this is an improvement over the original and it picks up right after the deaths of Count Dracula and Renfield with Edward Van Sloan reprising his role as Van Helsing. Gloria Holden gives an eerie but also at times sympathetic performance as a vampiress who falls in love with a man that's already engaged. After being rejected she kidnaps his fiancee and escapes back to Transylvania. The build up towards the climax is exciting and I can see why some fans prefer this to the original.

Son of Dracula (1943)

Not nearly good as its predecessors and lacks the same chilling atmosphere but still a bit of cheesy fun. Chaney's performance isn't as creepy as others but he's certainly a formidable villain. There's an unexpected double-cross, the climax is suspenseful and I felt the ending was satisfying.
