Specifically more of a dark fairy tale.

Who approved to release this made-for-TV mess? Terrible.

4/10

Was reading an interview with GDT a few days back. Looks pretty good. I've been wanting to see a new 'gill-man' - although he stressed this was fantasy, not horror.

It's an incredibly dark fantasy movie, but there are elements of horror in it. It's both more graphic with certain elements and also less graphic with other elements than I thought it was going to be. It's Beauty and the Beast by way of Creature from the Black Lagoon and I mean that in the best possible way. Easily my favorite movie of this year.

Sounds cool

How was Shannon? He's one of my very favourite actors right now.

Spider-Man Homecoming

The Shape of Water. Easily one of my top films of the year. Sally Hawkins and Michael Shannon were mesmerizing in their roles.

The Last Jedi. Decent.
The Yoda/Luke scene is a standout, as are Luke v Kylo and Luke becoming one with the force, Snoke v. Rey v. Kylo on Snoke's ship, Holdo, and Poe and Leia.
The Finn/Rose/casino planet storyline isn't bad at all -- don't get the complaints there.

Inglorious Bastards

Buddy Comedy movie of the year

The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946)

This has been on my film noir to watch list for a couple of years now and I'm glad I finally found the opportunity to watch it on TCM On Demand. It's a really interesting story that uses the cliches very well. There are some unexpected plot twists and a couple of strong performances. Not only was Lana Turner an incredible beauty more importantly she was a phenomenal talent. She falls right into the role of femme fatale here and plays the hell of out it. She also has great on-screen chemistry with her co-star John Garfield. Their love hate relationship really carries the film and makes the ending all the more tragic.
