Beyond Skyline

This feels like a fever dream in the best possible way. Imagine if you put District 9, Transformers, Predator, The Raid, Rogue One, and Godzilla into a blender and this is the result you get (With a low budget although it looks good for $20M). It's the sequel to Skyline which had an interesting concept, but was ruined by a cheap story with horrible performances. This one takes the first one and kinda resets it with better cast of characters. Frank Grillo is always solid and he does lift the movie up a lot when it starts. Bojana Novakovic was not bad. Iko Uwais and a couple of the Raid crew were great when they eventually show up. This movie is the very definition of B movie cinema. It's got balls to the wall action and it escalates and evolves into a different type of movie as it goes along. Overall, it's by far the most surprised i've been when watching a movie. I may be hyping it up, but if you're into good schlock, check it out. It's a solid B movie.
9/10

The best thing about this movie is when Robert Davi lights his cigarette with a burning severed arm! It's not nearly as strong as the previous films but it's more of the same over-the-top violence and gory kills. Davi returns as the detective who helped stop the undead killer in the last movie who has been resurrected once again and resumes his brutal killing spree. This time he's brought back by a Voodoo priest and he's murdering those who have wronged a comatose female cop that was wrongly disgraced by a pair of shady cameramen. There's also an appearance by Jackie Earle Haley and a brief cameo by Ted Raimi. While it's not necessarily a must see for fans of the first two films unless you're a completionist it's decent enough for fans of bad 80s action horror movies.

The Disaster Artist

Hilarious and surreal film with James Franco owning the role of Tommy Wiseau.

9/10

Bad Taste (1987)

Peter Jackson makes his directorial debut in this ridiculous low budget splatter-fest in which he not only played dual roles but also created most of the gory special effects makeups. I would definitely recommend checking this out for those that enjoyed his work on Braindead although it likely won't appeal to some fans of his later work. I think it's really interesting seeing how far his work has progressed since this early phase in his career. When the residents of a small New Zealand town disappear a small military team is sent in to investigate and discover an alien plot to harvest human flesh for their intergalactic fast food restaurant chain. There's plenty of outrageous gross out humor and excessive violence and gore some of which was actually pretty inventive. I like the design of the campy aliens and the chainsaw scenes at the end are some of my favorite moments.

The Last Jedi - 7.5/10

Better than I thought it would be based on the reviews I'd read. I didn't mind any of the character decisions made, which may have made the difference. The Canto Bight sequence was the major weak link, and there were some plot contrivances, but the twists were effective and I just loved all the interactions between Rey and Kylo. The porgs were everything.

Dunkirk - 9/10

Just brilliant, elegant filmmaking. It was impressive how well Nolan managed to weave disparate timelines together. The constant near-drowning scenes were like something out of a nightmare. My only real criticism was that the George storyline was a bit odd and felt out of place.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017)

It wasn't too bad, had a few moments and the chemistry was pretty good. A bit cliche as well.

7/10

Baby Driver - Pretty enjoyable crime caper with some cool chases and soundtrack.

Last Jedi, again.

It's starting to grow on me. For all its flaws it's fresh and funny, I like Johnson's [BLACKOUT]disregard for Abrams's mystery box[/BLACKOUT], and finding new ways to think about the Force is very worthwhile.

Beyond Skyline. I watched it out of curiousity after reading Kane's review, and I have to agree with him here. Surprisingly entertaining, and way better than the first one.
