I've read a few reactions similar to yours. Cronenberg insisted on sticking to the dialogue in the book and how it is dictated faithfully, and there's where the polarizing reactions hinges on. There lies the film's originality but it's also its greatest weakness to some since it limits the appeal of the film, also that it feels misaligned and artificial.
You saw this on Cannes or on the cinemas since it's already out in France?
That film was a bit of a disappointment for me. But i loved the way they portrayed the Rider himself. He actually was like a horror movie character and pretty creepy. I loved the part where he first turns up and he's just standing there, swaying. Really bizarre. And the part where the guy was looking at him through the scope on the rocket launcher and he was movie around all twitchy. Pretty inspired and interesting imo.

8/10 Good but not my favorite of the series, I still thinks that goes to the third one.

Yeah, they made Ghost Rider look awesome and horrifying at the same time. It made me forgive all the other stuff in the story with the boy and his mother.
The film didn't feel long, but it should have done something more. Maybe it would have helped if I didn't see the Swedish film, but the film should have been good enough for me not to think that.
Oh, yeah and the CGI in Wolverine. For 2009 with that kind of film, what the hell went on with that?
Finally, someone else who prefers MI3!8/10 Good but not my favorite of the series, I still thinks that goes to the third one.
I agree that this is the best adaptation of I Am Legend. I'm still crossing my fingers they'll release this on Bluray some day.
Vincent Price was amazing in that movie.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
Have to say this was a lot of fun, far better than the boring cookie cutter superhero of the first film. The directors knew what this property was and had a lot of fun with it. Nicolas Cage and Idris Elba were really good in the sense of just playing their characters over the top. Storywise it was dumb but hey it didn't ruin the movie for me. I prefer Drive Angry as being the perfect Ghost Rider film but this was pretty close. Also I have to say Johnny Whitworth looks a lot like a young version of Kurt Russell.
7/10
I think it's just a case of the Star Trek curse, all of Fincher's odd numbered films, Alien 3, The Game, Panic Room, Button, TGWTDT aren't the masterpieces that Seven, Fight Club, Zodiac and Social Network are. Although personally, I'd put Network with the former group than the latter.
I personally don't think the story was anything special to begin with. I'd rather watch Steven Seagal's The Glimmer Man before any iteration of the Dragon Tattoo story to be honest.
Utterly disgraceful. There's no excuse for a major superhero film to be that atrocious after Iron Man and The Dark Knight came out in 2008.
Fitzcarraldo
Well that was certainly insane. And long.
My only disappointment with TGWTDT - and this is only because I've seen the Swedish version - was I think the Swedish script was a lot better paced and characterized, and had a lot of nuances that were left out of the American verison.Yeah, I think it's the material.
Exactly how cinematic is a middle aged man looking at old photos and dusty files anyway?
