Depends on where they grew up, I grew up in baltimore I ran the steets (MA and Boxing kept me out of major trouble though).

Upper class neighborhoods? yea, when I moved out of my paretns house from Baltimore City too the county. I'd see those kids walking, talking, acting ghetto fabulous. I just shake my head.

It sounds stupid but it makes alot of sense. They don't have any danger in their lives so they behave like that.

Oh no, I wasn't laughing because it's absurd. It might have some truth to it and I'll be giving that a bit of thought as it's the first time I've ever heard that theory. It was just so crazy that I had to chuckle lol

Well, what definitely has truth to it is how a lot of white suburban boys try to act "gangsta" and like they live in the hood out of boredom. They think that that sort of lifestyle is glamorous because of tv and such.

Right, but the reason being that they need some excitement or at least a change in their lives is interesting. It def pisses their parents off, and teens love to do that haha.

Pissing their parents off adds excitement. I don't think they REALLY want a change, because if they knew what the hood was really like they'd go running back to mommy and daddy. I think they just want excitement and for people to think they're "dangerous."

I can think of a few reasons.
-White people are sort of afraid to be interpreted as racist.
-They feel the idea is preposterous and don't even want to contemplate it.
-They might have to face up to the fact that some of their accomplishments were aided by the fact they were white, they didn't totally earn it.
-Feel White Privilege is just an excuse for "others" shortcomings.
-Think that affirmative action makes the validity of White Privilege moot.
-Lack the commitment of even reading the points.
-People in general find the subject to be an uncomfortable one, so they rather stick to humour.
... etcetera

This thread won't die because it is irrelevant, but because people choose to ignore its importance.

I agree on the latter. You put a kid with his pants around his knees, a hooded sweatshirt, some necklaces or other bling, grandma will get freaked out.

I understand it does, but some people who have voted obviously deny their privilege, so if you could, as a brown person, clarify how you continuously face White Privilege, maybe it would enlighten some.

I remember when I was just one sperm out of millions and I had to kill all my fellow sperm so I could be the lucky one to enter that egg.

And when I went to grade school, then high school, and finally got accepted to college, that meant that another kid had to do without school simply because of their skin color.

When I got my car, another person had to either take the bus, ride their bike, or carjack someone, because whitey bought the car they were going to get.

All those people had to do without, because of me.

I deliberately made it private because I feel that often public polls change the way people answer. I just wrongly assumed that people would have the conviction to back up their opinion.

I'm still waiting for ScottyBBad's reasoning to his "More like lack of it" comment. He at least halfway committed.

I'm not out to vilify people with opposing viewpoints, they must have grounds on why they voted the way they did, so why not share them?

look at it this way... ever see the boondocks? I moved into a neighbourhood like that back in grade 8. In an almost all-Caucasian school who do you think the teacher is gonna be more of a jerk to?

I say no, often, it's a privilege to be non white.
