It is no surprise the scheduling is the main sticking point. It has always been. They also clearly want Cumberbatch, or I'd expect this would be done by now, as they could have easily cast someone else. That they are given this another go makes me think there is a good chance they are gonna make this work.

If Marvel was sure about BC, we would have an announcement by now. I am saying it ain't over 'til it's over. It's pretty clear to me Deadline jumped the gun, and posted something they thought was true, but maybe wasn't as solid as they believed. Marvel has not yet committed to BC and BC has not yet committed to Marvel. We should stop acting like it's all a done deal.

I believe there are other actors in the running (thank goodness!) that have not yet been ruled out. Lainey said as much herself. Deadline did a disservice to Marvel and BC by announcing this prematurely. Now it will be embarrassing for all involved if this doesn't work out.

I remember rumours about Ewan McGregor being Marvel's top pick for Strange but it turned out he was just talking with Disney about reprising his role as Obi Wan. Cumberbatch could be up for literally any role in any of the 9 recently announced movies, and Deadline assumed it was for Strange.

Cumberbatch is pretty much in though. It's just the matter of signing on the dotted line.

And to think Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddelston share the same universe now. I'm sure tumblr has already taken care of that.
