Who will be Strange? - Part 3

Depp is too old

And probably too expensive for Marvel.

Cumberbatch is fine. It isn't Cumberbatch fault he gets fan cast for lots superhero film roles.

I would rather have an actor committed to the role then another Hugo Weaving situation where the actor is warning the studio not to make him come back for a sequel.

Cumberbatch is about as uninspiring as Patrick Stewart for Professor X. Sometimes the obvious choice is the right choice, and that's why it's obvious.
What everybody else who agrees with you said.

But WHEN is Cumberbatch going to have the time to commit to this film? His schedule is full into 2016 and shooting must commence next fall, if I am understanding things correctly. Plus, there are lots of reshoots with a Marvel film. I don't think he's the guy, I just don't. There are others in the running, I am sure of it.

I remember when Marvel was casting Sharon Carter. They saw seemingly every twentysomething blonde in LA. I was following it like a hawk, because I love Peggy Carter with a passion and I was hoping they just decided to have Hayley Atwell play Sharon. They ended up going with Emily Van Camp, who was just an underwhelming choice, in my opinion. She was on no one's short list, but physically she fit the part to a tee.

In Marvel's favor, they are willing to make course corrections. They do seemingly listen to criticism and try to make adjustments. I do not believe Cumberbatch is a cinematic leading man, at least in this kind of film. Oh, I can see him in some small British film, like TIG, but a big budget spectacle like Strange? STID was just a disaster, and he was completely miscast, so I don't count that at all.

I'm not a Cumberbatch fanboy but he seems like leading man material to me. I think Cumberbatch could carry a big blockbuster easily enough. Cumberbatch can act and has some screen presence which is more than some actors I see getting pushed for leading men roles by Hollywood have.

Still bummed that it won't be Jared.

Well, Jungle Book is at least just voice over work, which is simpler. I haven't seen any recent news on Flying Horse, but it was set to start production a long time ago. I also don't see anything about Yellow Birds as far as a release date. Both seem to be smaller films with likely shorter production schedules. He would be busy, but I do think there's room.

Right. And I'm sure all these things are considered when negotiations happen anyway.

Yeah, they'll have sorted everything to fit the schedule of whoever they've cast, although equally if there were too many problems they wouldn't be cast

Completely uninspired. Why would people want a talented actor who fits the role for Dr. Strange? Especially one who's younger than someone like, say, Phoenix and isn't turned off by the long term commitment. Silliness.

Some people would like another Edward Norton like situation than a safe actor

Exactly!
Marvel should stay clear of individual/freedom-loving actors like Phoenix or Leto or they will get into another Hugo Weaving like situation where they do the role once, then get bored with it and decide to move on,contractually Marvel could force them into returning but then they would sleep walk through it like Natalie Portman in TDW,and we don't want that with such a major role

Even though Cumberbatch also loves to do character type tough roles,he is not afraid to take on major roles in blockbusters(Hobbit,Star Trek). He is more adaptable

Phoenix would never have signed a long contract, but the fact he was considering it gives me hope the script must be really good and interesting to get him close.

Depp can stay the hell away from this as far as I'm concerned. He is too old and most of his movies have been flops as of late. I do like BC and won't be sad if he gets the role but at the same time if they go with someone else so be it, don't really care either way. I do think they need someone with clout though because I feel like Strange may be the person that starts down a different path than just an the Avengers movies. I could see them branching out and doing Midnight Sons to expand the MCU more into the supernatural realm

I just saw Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler. He acted his little heart out in that film. He was creepy as hell. But I think he's too young and physically doesn't look the part.

You know who else I like--Enver Gjokaj. He's also too young but man can he act. And he's cute, too.

Still on #TeamKeanu.

Wait, What????? Did I miss something? I thought Cumberbatch had the role???

After watching Interstellar. I think Matt McConaughey would be better then ever as an out of box casting and a slightly different take on Strange. He's a good actor. I didn't mind him when he was announced as one of the front runners getting the role. I would love if Marvel cast. It'll be like the casting of Miller as Flash. Not what we would expect. No one here would seriously have thought of or ever considered MM for DS.

Ironically, McConaughey was my original choice for Captain America. :woot:

Marvel has not confirmed it.

Oh ok. I can't imagine why it's taking so long. It's not like Cumberbatch is A list or a big name draw. yes he's a good actor and i'm more then fine with him a Strange but I hope they announce it and it doesn't fall apart.

It could also come down to scheduling, rather than money.

I like McConaughey as an actor but I don't think his accent would work with Strange

I was surprised when those articles came out "confirming" (but not really) his casting, because Cumberbatch himself alluded to Hamlet being a big conflict for doing the film.
