I do really like the choice though.

I think that Robbie could be a realistic contender for MJ based on her age and her soon to be break out role in the Scorsese film the Wolf of Wall Street with Leonardo DiCaprio, and a film that she will be starring in with Will Smith. The studio was clearly looking for talent and a potential big name with the Woodley casting, so I think Robbie would be right up their alley if they needed to recast and wanted to go with a 616 type MJ.

Jane Levy is mentioned just about every other page,and it always ends up back at the same conclusion.There's one big problem with her. She's a good choice for the role, but just Google image "Jane Levy Emma Stone". Tons of pics like this show up.

Honestly, it wouldn't bother me, although I'd like to point out that the girl is a bit short (she's only 5'2" compared to Emma's and Robbie's 5'6" and Woodley's 5'8"). However, she already clearly reminds the world of Emma Stone, so I doubt that Webb would even consider her for the part.

It's dose not matter who she is, it's important how MJ should look in movie and it's possible to do that. But it's easier to cast ugly or average girl for iconic character who is known for her look and call her Ultimate

That's some really good cosplay. The ugly/average thing is a bit harsh though. Woodley is a pretty girl, just not a 'home run' for the iconic version of the character, and I blame part of that on the way that they styled her.

So this mean somewhere in your head, you think without realizing she have average look for playing iconic MJ. Everything can be fixed with makeup, but that would be just cheating a male audience and great commerical for cosmetics industy "Everyone can be pretty with just a bit of makeup", even to look as MJ. Sorry but not everyone in this world can be good looking, for same reason makeup was created...

It is funny how Margot Robbie and Jane Levy are actually the same age, but Margot looks quite a bit older than Jane. Must be her face shape and the way she dresses/ does her make-up. She is a good choice though. The first time I saw her on something assosiated with Pam Am I thought 'Woah.' And I don't normally think that just looking at a girl. She would be a decent choice.

I've heard that comparison made too, but upon first seeing Margot, I didn't get that impression at all. Otherwise, I wouldn't have suggested her. But the first time I saw Levy (Back when Suburgatory was first coming out) I thought she WAS Emma Stone. While I'd agree that Margot and Stone both have a similar type of beauty (both fit the classic Romita girl look to a tee, which they should ) I don't think they look alike or nearly as alike as Stone and Levy do, especially from the clips I have seen of Margot. They just don't give off the same vibe like Stone and Levy. As others have stated, Margot clearly has a much more mature look than both Stone and Levy, and there's a 'cuteness' to Emma Stone (and Levy) that Margot doesn't have, which could work well when contrasting the wild Mary Jane with the wholesome Gwen Stacy. They could easily have that good girl/ bad girl dynamic.

To me, Levy just seems too much like another Emma Stone in both looks and personality, a connection that the general public has already made. Levy- the petite girl with the red hair and spunky attitude would be a constant reminder of Emma from movies like Easy A (and for me, what could have been had they cast Emma as Mary Jane in the first place). I don't think that that would be a problem with Margot at all. At least not for me, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. IMO, she's just a different kind of girl.

Having been aware of Margot for several years now, long before she went to the US, she's a terrific actress, with great comedy timing. As is Jane.

I think she looks younger in the vid I posted than in pictures.
Makeup/styling can really age a girl, but I can't find Margot without it. Best comparison I could pull up.

Both clearly look better with less though. Especially Margot (makeup in top middle pic is awful, and almost looks like a different person), but I agree that Emma just has a younger face despite being older, which could work for the character. Idk why I keep fighting for this girl. Just something in my gut makes me think she'd be good for the role aside from just looks, and I think more people will see that in the next couple of years when her films come out. Then again, Woodley clearly has a growing fan base too.

You criticized us for saying that girls like Woodley and Fanning didn't look the part, despite being pretty "girl next door" types and talented. You asked "Why do looks matter with MJ?". I gave you the answer, and then you turn around and criticize another actress's looks???

Like I said, even though I would have never chosen her myself, I like Woodley. She's got talent, charisma, is cute, and has a 'down to earth Jennifer Lawrence realness' that will likely help her land many roles in the industry, but that doesn't mean that she's a perfect fit for this type of character. Neither is Megan Fox, who would be a horrible choice despite having that (makes guys drool) type of look. Fox doesn't have the right energy or talent.

That being said, If she returns, they need to do something different with her. These don't scream MJ at all (not even ultimate), whereas Stone's Gwen (just from set pics) looks like she jumped right off the page. It's like a repeat of the Bryce Dallas Howard/Kirsten Dunst situation in SM3. Gwen looks just like Gwen, and MJ looks nothing like MJ.

Even the hair color is all wrong. Too much brown, not enough red. Still think that Shailene looks a lot like Kitty Pryde, but that role was made for Ellen Page.
Wonder if Sony and Fox share the rights to that character. She was Peter's love interest in Ultimate Spider-man.

I know people have their own preferences, but wow....you're in an extreme minority if you honestly don't think she's attractive. I mean seriously, she looks like she could be a Miss USA contender for crying out loud...you don't see that?

Agree with everything you said sl500jazz, I think it's the dark tan that ages Margot Robbie a bit. Without the tan and makeup, she looks years younger, like in the picture above, she looks a bit like AnnaSophia Robb, who has a very very young look.

So I guess that's why I see Shailene as being prettier than Robbie. And I've honestly been holding back from saying this...please nobody get mad...but I just think Robbie is so ugly. I've been through this before and I had a problem with people on another forum because all they did was antagonize.

Me criticizing the way Robbie looks was just my opinion. I just thinks she's very unattractive, but that doesn't mean I think that's the reason why she shouldn't be MJ. I never said that. Maybe I just find Robbie so unattractive that I don't want to see her in one of my favorite comic book character's movies. Look, I know that's kind of cold, but it's just the way I feel. I don't meant to insult anyone. Obviously you all would die for Robbie's looks, and I'm just one person.

And, Emma Stone looks nothing like Gwen. She just has the hair style and color, and I guess body size. It is not a rule where the characters need to be a replica from the comics.
