Oh okay thanks man

"Maybe you're having problems with other people because you're misinterpreting them?"

I actually think that may be it.

Lol it happens. That's the problem with communicating via text....maybe I should use more smiley faces :woot:

Hmmm....Spidey1107 is a banned user? Wonder why.

First of all, Preferences aside I think we can all agree that Margot Robbie is the FURTHEST thing from ugly. She is one of the most gorgeous actresses I have seen.

It's one thing to say that an actress simply doesn't look the part or that she isn't your type. It's another thing to repeatedly say that an actress is flat out ugly- so ugly that you want her to stay far away from your favorite superhero film. Reminds me of all the insensitive and nasty things that people were saying about Woodley when certain set pics were released. She may not look like MJ and imo is too cute girl next door for a character who was written to be such a flirtatious sexpot, but Woodley is also the FURTHEST thing from ugly. Very naturally pretty girl.

Some people really need to think twice about what they post on the internet. These actresses are human. They have feelings and insecurities too. I'm surprised his comments haven't removed.

Then again, he said that Emma doesn't look anything like Gwen besides the hair.

Guess that confirms my suspicions all along ...TROLL!!!

Margot def looks better in this pic age-wise.

Yeah, I think the tan and all that makeup has a very 'Christina Aguilera' effect on her. Adds 10+ years to a naturally pretty girl.

BTW, here are my attempts at giving her red/auburn hair.

Ultimate MJ is supposed to be a more nerdy girl next door type. She's quite pretty, but not supermodel hot. If that is what they're going for, then Woodley works just fine. Her performance is what's important to me, not really her looks.

I think she fits it perfectly.

Yeah Woodley would be fine for the Ultimate girl next door version of the character. I know that Webb is drawing a lot of inspiration from the ultimate comics, but I was really hoping that he would do 616 MJ. Especially, when Raimi really didn't do that version of the character justice. One of the things that I was looking forward to with the reboot, was to see my favorite incarnation of my female character come to life on screen like she hadn't in previous films. Ultimate MJ is a completely different person, and more similar to the MJ we got in previous films despite being a model/actress. Besides, if he clearly did 616 Gwen, why not go for 616 MJ?

Red hair, big rack, pretty eyes, good actress. Is that so hard to find?

Big rack is so not important at all to me.

I find this entire debate rather sad (poor Shailene, you have to put up with so much).

I think it's only sad when people simplify MJ to big boobs and red hair(although it's clear that they were just kidding) and when they pick apart Woodley's physical appearance. That being said, I think it can be a fair debate. I've seen her performances in episodes of The Secret Life, the Descendants, and clips of Spectacular Now. She's very talented, and pretty, but doesn't scream MJ. I'll never understand why the studio just threw the part at her without at least holding auditions like they did for Peter and Gwen. Just because she has potential to be a big name actress, doesn't mean that there isn't another girl who would better suit this particular role. It's not like Meryl Streep always landed every single role that she wanted. Honestly, I think that the studio just saw Woodley as being able to attract an even larger fan base, attention, and critical acclaim to the franchise- the next Jennifer Lawrence- so they jumped at the chance to cast her as the female lead, not because Webb or Sony saw her in Descendants and immediately thought of MJ.

I feel bad for Kirsten Dunst. She's clearly a talented actress (just check out Melancholia) an I don't think it was her fault for why the character turned out to be so unlikable in the Raimi Franchise. The scripts turned her into a weak and whiny damsel in distress, and she'll never get the chance to redeem her version of MJ. On top of that, people constantly call her "ugly" and "snaggletooth", which isn't right. I can't imagine what she's going through. She REALLY has to put up with a lot.

I don't think the studio just started negotiations with Woodley, I'm sure there were other actresses they spoke with as well, the same way it happened with Gwen. Woodley at the time happened to work in their favor.

I'm pretty sure that (as early as last August/September) Woodley was the only choice for MJ. Josh Hutcherson and others were attached to the role of Peter Parker, before Garfield was picked. Emma Roberts, Theresa Palmer, Imogen Poots, and others were considered for Gwen, before they picked Emma Stone. No other names have been attached to the role of MJ. So unless they withheld information regarding this role (can't see why they would if they didn't for Peter and Gwen), it appears that they only negotiated with Woodley.

I have pretty much the same opinion of Shailene. I think she's pretty and talented, but just doesn't scream "classic MJ" to me. But somehow some people on here think that's an insult to Shailene just because I don't view her as being right for the part.

People need to stop lumping everyone into the "Shailene haters" group and screaming "sexist!!!" whenever someone expresses any opinion of Shailene not being right for the part, it's ridiculous.

Yes there are people who are just flat out mean and insulting her, and they need to grow up. But there are those of us who simply don't think she's right for the part, that doesn't mean we hate her.

but the thing is that marc was obviously not going for classic mj, so that argument is pointless. yes, it's okay to have your opinion, not to like shailene or even think she's ugly, but to diminish both her and mj as a character to just how they look is the problem.

and i was just reading the variety article that announced her casting and it says, "Woodley is the studio’s leading choice to join stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in the Marc Webb-directed sequel" so sl500jazz. they wanted her from the get-go.

Bold: exactly. I guess some people aren't okay with that route. Whatevs. Done deal haha.

Yes I can see that he wasn't going for classic MJ. But lots of us think he should. Are we not allowed to express that opinion? That argument is not pointless. Your accusations are though.

How am I "diminishing" MJ by wanting her to look the traditional part? You're implying that I only care about her looks and not her personality, you're assuming a lot there.

I think the only problem here is people thinking there is a problem that others don't share their opinion and making incorrect assumptions about people that disagree with them.

no need to take it personally unless the shoe fits.

few arguments were about how marc should've approached mj, most were just flat-out saying shailene isn't hot enough. very few people were saying the looks matter as well as the personality. most seem to not even care about the actress' abilities and only going for the looks. how many times have i seen someone mention a hot girl saying, "idk if she can act or not, i've never seen her in anything, but she'd make a good mj" as if the character's looks are all that matters. that's all i'm saying.

if you're not one of those people, then cool. no need to discuss things any further.

I wouldn't be happy if they went that route because I think that MJ's portrayal in the Ultimate comics was molded after MJ's portrayal in the movies. Raimi's MJ and Ultimate MJ (and even 616 Gwen) have more similarities in personality and portrayal than Rami's MJ and 616 MJ. Imo, it would be the completely wrong direction to take the character. I's not even the iconic version of the character, and so far they have respected the iconography of both Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. In fact Gwen Stacy is the spitting image of the 616 version in personality and looks, and nothing like the ultimate version.

Honestly, I think that Shailene was the studios top pick because they knew she had talent and they anticipated her future Jennifer Lawrence type box office appeal. This is a business after all. Clearly, they didn't anticipate the backlash (a lot of which has been rude, insensitive, and unnecessary)

I think they wanted her as the female lead in this franchise (regardless of the character), and if she hadn't gotten so much popularity and critical acclaim for the Descendants and will for the Spectacular Now, I doubt that they would have even considered her for the role even if she had expressed interest. Now the girl next door Ultimate version is constantly being used as a justification for that casting.

The funny thing is, is I doubt that they would even give her Ultimate MJ's personality. She would come across as Gwen Stacy 2.0.

I don't take anything personally on here. But if you make incorrect assumptions about me, I'm gonna correct you.

It's like I said in the comment you responded to, people need to quit lumping everyone that doesn't want Shailene into one big "Shailene hating, sexist" group.

I agree, no need to discuss things further. Don't make incorrect accusations about me and it's cool.
