Who's the most pathetic and useless Marvel character ever?

hippy fascist said:
again, have you ever actually read any howard? :whatever:

Yeah I have.. When he "teamed" up with Man-Thing..
Plus I read the MAX Series and thought it was horrible..
The only Duck themed comic character that works is Killer Duck.

^Ill give you that. Anyone can be written really well, or really poor. But there are some characters that just......blah.

And yet, Beak and Stiltman have both been writen well in good stories. That's the thing, there are no bad characters, just bad writers.

Rocket racer.

Great character. Just begging for Galactis to bless him with the power cosmic so he can do battle with the surfer over the skies of Asgard.

^Hey bro, I hear ya. I have read Howard, SG and a bunch of lesser known charcters, but that does not make them bad. Charcters like Silver Surfer, etc should not even be mentioned on this thread, they are good characters, you might not like them but they are solid.

I feel characters that should be posted are the likes of Bird Boy, Beak, Artie, Siltman, etc. Characters that should not even have been made.

That wasn't aimed at you, I was agreeing with you.

It just pisses me off when people start jumping on a bandwagon to bash. So much good stuff has been removed (in particualr by angry christians with too much time on their hands) from circulation by people who've never even read/watched/listened to the thing they're complaining about over the years.

If someone wants to debate the merits of a character with me using actual evidence gleaned from the source then fair enough.

People whose only argument is that something sucks because THEY don't like it are a pet peeve of mine.

It's like, when I was a kid I would often pull faces and moan when my parents tried to get me to try vegetables etc. However, they was fair in that they would say "try it first and if you still don't like it then you don't have to eat it, but don't complain about something you've never even tasted"

As a result I'll always give something a fair shot before passing judgment on it.

Same here. Except for anal sex. That's where I draw the line.

Not every characters is for everyone of course, but I try and give it a shot before I start bashing it. Just works better that way. :yay:

because characters who are immortal can't be taken seriously. Wolverine's whole persona is based around fighting. Where's the achievement in winning a fight if your opponent can never under any circumstances beat you. That's why

Wolverine can die.
he isn't immortal exactly.. more like.. linear unkillable..
it can be done.. you just have to have the right person..
Sentry could kill him..

Thats another useless character: The Sentry.

Well we must include Cannonball, Dark Phoenix, Apocalypse.....etc. if we use that train of thought. Wolverine is not pathetic or useless, if he was he wouldnt be on each team Marvel has. I feel they have gone away from the character that had serious anger issues and wanted to choose the right and not kill, to a killing machine. I don't like that, but as a character he is very interesting. Just because some people think he is overhyped does not make him "useless". If that is the case then SpiderMan, Captain America and the FF are in the same category. IMO

Here's how I feel: There is not a single character in comics, or in any medium for that matter, that cannot be redeemed. With the right writer, The Trapster could acheive a great deal of depth and nuance. With the proper direction, Stilt-Man could be fleshed out as a character and gain a whole new level of developement. All it takes is vision and talent. Case in point: Supreme. For those who don't know, Supreme was a creation of Rob Lifeld. He was created as a parody of Superman. He was arrogant, violent, and dim witted to the point of obsurdity. In short, he sucked. Then Alan Moore came along and wrote a Supreme mini series. And as you can probably guess, it was quite good. A talanted writer with good ideas took a crappy character and made him shine. And that can happen to any character, reall. All we need is someone with the knowledge, and the elbow grease, to lead these characters into a new land.

wolverine was good when he had a healing factor, now he's just immortal which sucks. Previously he'd take hours to heal from a serious wound. Now he can come back from just a skeleton in nanoseconds. Hence I can't take him seriously. Wolverine WAS a good character but they made him far too uber in recent years.

The whole point of wolverine is he's a plucky short-arse who can hold his own in a fight. Not anymore, now he's immortal so his fighting skills have essentially become obsolete.

^Good points, but I have always seen him more than someone who can "hold his own in a fight." Logan wont stop. Period. Now in the long run will it matter that he heals more quickly now? I don't know, its easier on the writers (which is lazy writing) but gives the character/book more shock value (money). I just have decided that even though they are trying to screw up a great character, I am not just going to turn away and forget about the character.
