That is a faulty argument that far too many UFO believers rely on. It is like saying that because there are billions of rocks, one of them should have microscopic intelligent life on it. Quantity does not equate to certainty. You are applying mathematical certainty based simply on the number of planets, but you lack a key variable: Under what circumstances does intelligent life evolve? Until that question is answered, there is no way of knowing what the likelihood of intelligent life in the universe is. Intelligent life could be as common as the cold or Earth could be the one in one trillion chance event where everything came together perfectly for life to evolve in such a manner. Without knowing how evolution on the scale of Earth occurs there is no way to be certain or even saying which option is more likely than the other.
That being said, I am skeptical not of alien life (like I said, we just don't know), but rather of the idea of them coming here for a few reasons:
1) The stories are ridiculous - You mean to tell me that intelligent life looks almost exactly like us anatomically, only shorter with grey skin and big heads and their goal is little more than to anal probe humans? Come on.
2) The government isn't competent enough to cover something like this up. They can't cover up the president's blow job, yet I'm supposed to believe that the government has pulled off a conspiracy of this level?
3) If there are aliens that have mastered intergalactic travel, what are the odds of them finding us? Earth is a needle in a hay stack.
Awesome, first debate with an Admin
1) The stories may sound ridiculous to you but that's your views. You can't discredit someones belief because you think its stupid. Not ALL contact stories derive a human like figure with 2 arms/ 2 legs and a head, some have stated to of come in contact with insect like creatures that have no visible facial features, some with just mists or gaseous like entities sort of like a ghost.
"Anal probes" is just one example because of its humorous factor got swept up by the media and now every time there's a comedy outburst about aliens you hear "anal probe". You don't hear of the people who have been said to have been implanted with microscopic chips that vibrate on such a high frequency its nearly undetectable. That just doesn't have the media zing.
2) Pretty sure Republicans did everything in their power to find that out to try and get Clinton Impeached. The bitter rivalry between the two parties knows no bounds.
I think collectively, when you take petty political differences out of the equation that government, military, and secret operatives that surpass Congressional and White House levels that have been doing this for 60+ years do have the power/authority and knowledge to pull off such a cover up. I say 60+ years because I consider Roswell to be the first time our Government came into contact with Extra Terrestrial life.
3) I mentioned earlier that you can not count out the possibility of ET life finding earth simply on the basis of "well the universe/multi verse is just too darn big!" You are making that argument strictly on something you think is big. We cannot begin to comprehend the size/magnitude of a galaxy...of suns that are 1000 x's bigger than ours. Our brains just don't function that way. Whether it be that we are just still evolving as a species or what. Being able to even comprehend that a single grain of sand has more atoms than almost all the grains of sand in the world is simply mind boggling.
Beings that have been around for millions of years maybe don't see the galaxy/universe quite as large as we do. If they have been space traveling for a few thousand if not millions of years......it could potentially seem like your or I's commute to work.
Also regarding "quantity does not equate to certainty" I have to say it does equate to a higher probability.
