Why Brian Michael Bendis sucks

Well at least we won't be seeing Geldoff anytime soon I hope.

I hated Ultimate X-Men. The characters were way too different from the original versions for me to enjoy them.

I thought along thos elines at first, then I really embraced the change, the newness of it. It reminded me of when I first started reading X-Men back in the early 80's before it went to hell.

When the newness involves changing Jean into a ****e, Storm into a thuggish girl from the streets, and Nightcrawler into a gun-toting maniac, I'll pass.

I think Bendis is cool, he is doing a god Job with Ultimate spider-man IMO. Its not exactly stan lee and steve ditko, but i think he still is doing a good job. He is not swaying to far the source materail to far[killing gwen stacy for example], the other ulimate titles take THEIR WORLD WAY to serously.

****e and gun toting maniac? I do not recall those things. Storm was always a street girl stealing stuff, no dofference there, as far as the other two, have any proof? I would like to think I would no thave forgotten such crazy things if they happened.

For the record, I like Bendis' work OUTSIDE of the realm of superheroes. Torso and Powers are top-tier books, but his run on Ultimate X-Men, all of New Avengers (what a crappy concept :down), and (most of) what I read of Ultimate Spider-Man were just... mediocre.

Long, I think he's still sore about the fact that Jean slept with Logan, which in reality is quite accurate to real life, no pun intended. A young girl attracted to the older bad boy type on the rebound after she thinks that her boyfriend's dead. Just about anyone can tell you that alot of younger girls like older men, it's a fact in today's society, and the 'bad boy' image is infamous. No, it doesn't make her a ****e, just makes her more real than the idealistic job he's used to seeing.

As to the rest of that, as Long said Storm was a theif in the streets of Cairo in the employ of the Sahdow King in 616 and she then reverted to a more street and rebel later with the mohawk when she allowed herself to actually feel, all the things she repressed as a teen. The Ultimate Storm simply shows us storm without that restriction, a typical rebel attitude in people her age. More often than not, people just don't like seeing their characters in a more realitic light while maintaining the comic book atmosphere.

Ultimate X-Men kicks ass, but then that like most of everything around here, is just an opinon.

I've been saying this in the thread as well. And gildea has been making my point as well.

Just because it says Spider-Man doesn't mean that it's going to bring in the sales of champions.

As I pointed out earlier, it didn't matter whether Bendis was going to do Avengers Disassembled or New Warriors Disassmebled or The Amazing Spider-Ham Disassembled! It would have sold either way. Why? Because it has Bendis on it.

The point has been is that he's POPULAR.

As a matter of fact, I'm going to make a quick comparison. Metallica and Bendis run the same line.

Metallica's first three albums are, pretty much, agreed upon by the Metallica community to be fantastic albums. Once you get away from that you get the fans who say "They sold out" "They suck now" "Music died when Cliff died" etc. What happened was Metallica started getting....POPULAR, example...The Black Album.

Bendis was an indie writer who made it to Marvel. Things kept moving for him and the ball got rolling. All of a sudden he's given Avengers. He writes a story. Fans go absolutely insane over the story, in a bad way, and ever since it's been the same excuses to dislike Bendis, as with Metallica. "Oh, his pacing is horrible" "His dialogue is choppy and doesn't make sense" "He killed Hawkeye~!".

Dislike him for your reasons. Fine. But he's still one of the most popular writers in the comic book industry and there are more people who like him than dislike him. The remedy to the problem? If you don't like Bendis don't read his books and you won't have to make "Bendis Sucks" threads every week.

It's got nothing at all to do with him being popular. Roy Thomas and Steve Englehart and other writeres have been popular over the years. People like me who don't like Bendis' writing dislike it because they either favor a more traditional approach or they dislike what he's done with certain characters.

Like Darthphere, I quit reading Ultimate comics as a whole. I needed to save money, and I figured if I could do it by cutting out the only non-canon books I read, that'd be the best idea. As it stands, I haven't really missed anything from the Ultimate universe, and there's still plenty of quality books from the 616 Marvel stuff to occupy my attention.

Well, right now you're missing Ultimate Blade and Ultimate Morbius in USM. You're missing Ultimate Doctor Doom returning in the Ultimate Fantastic Four, and I add that if you're not reading this title...well, you're loss. Ultimate X-Men is really the only one that's kind of bland. Brian K. Vaughn's run was too kick ass for many to follow with anything interesting. Kirkman hasn't been horrible but it's been obvious that Vaughn was kick ass. And The Ultimates...I almost forgot about the Ultimates seeing how OFTEN it comes out. :o

A yes, I see where he was going. For some reason I was picturing her hookin for dolla dolla bills ya'll ;)

Younger women older men, as a34 year old who dates mainly 20 year olds, I know what you mean. Women my age bore me to death, plus they want a FAMILY and I do not like strings tying me down. Love kids, but will not have my own unless I adopt. So yeah, I agree with you 100% on the age thing.

And I've stated that people can dislike him for whatever reasons they have. Some people just will. I'm not trying to change anybody's mind.

My point is that he's a popular writer and one of the best selling. He's going to face a lot of animosity because of it, and he is. A little too much. One of these threads is started on a weekly basis about how Bendis sucks or Bendis stinks or Bendis did this or did that.

The more it builds up the more and more some people look like their hateful and jealous of the man, and you can't tell me that some people aren't jealous of the guy.

Yeah, dislike the guy because maybe he "killed" your favorite fictional character. Or doesn't write up to "your" standard of writing. But does it mean he sucks?

I don't like country music. Does it mean that country music sucks?

Ultimate Spidey does NOT feel like classic Spidey, WTF are you talkin' about?! It's still th' same bull****! Long drawn out arcs, Spidey actin' like a grade A rookie with no spider-sense, needin' help to beat his baddies... Th' only thing that was different about th' last arc is Spidey didn't get unmasked! That's it! It's still th' same old Bendis bull****!

Ultimate X-Men has picked up since Bru came on, finally able to enjoy it. But I love UFF and Ultimates. Those two are good reads. Spidey can kiss my ass.

Um, yes the book does feel like classic Spider-Man. You do realize that Spider-Man is still 15 in this series, correct? He isn't 28 or 29 years old yet. You know this, right?

And the last arc wasn't his baddies. The X-Men were kidnapped and Spider-Man helped them get off the island.

And Bru doesn't write Ultimate X-Men. Robert Kirkman does. Brubaker will be writing UNCANNY X-MEN.

For someone who is so "well schooled" you got a lot of things wrong. :)

I actually didn't mind Beast's death. I mean, when an X-Man dies and it's not Jean, I'm typically thrilled.

Considering how bad Doom was before, I wouldnt say thats a good thing.

That about sums it up right there. If I wanted to read the title, I would be reading it. I haven't felt like I've missed out on anything by cutting the Ultimate comics out of my reading list. I like continuity, and now I get to read more in-continuity stuff. Granted, most of the in-continuity stuff isn't really that great, but there's always DC and Wildstorm.
