Will we see a Venom that sucks?

Brock should look bigger than normal. Topher doesn't.

Norman Osborn is supposed to look bigger than normal as well, yet I've never seen someone complain about Willem Dafoe's (kinda narrow) physique.

Norman's physique is similar to Peter's, so Dafoe looked fine.

It's just that Topher is a little too skinny... I thought the guy had been bulking up... I'm not one to complain about this sh:t though... Dafoe looked good but I don't think GG was ever supposed to be Supes or anyone of such an imposing appearance... I think the CGI will make Venom look fine however...

Go and see the new picturse of Topher Grace - he looks eeeeeeevil. In the good way. Very impressive. His size doesn't even come into question in those pictures - just the expressions on his face.

who even cares, i personally never wanted to see Venom in the movies anyway. Venom has always been the worst of all spidermans villians imo, or sometimes hes an anti-hero and sometimes hes a villian, what a 90s joke he was. hes character im sure Stan lee or steve ditko would of never created [or want to create].

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, Eros. Either way, the dynamics of his character would still make for some wicked action scenes and special effects, don't you think?

No one complains about Dafoe's physique because he was a credible Norman Osborn. He was intimidating; he was sometimes downright frightening. Dafoe has a long history of playing disturbed crazy-people [anyone who remembers Lynch's "Wild at Heart" can certainly attest to his ability to portray crazies that you remember loooong after you have forgotten the rest of the film.]

I want someone to explain to me how *Gopher* is intimidating.

HOW

IS

HE

INTIMIDATING?!

HOW?

....rhetorical question only; those who matter well know what I mean.

Right....................................?

Yeah. Sure he does. He looks about as threatening as a damn Tribble, or one of those nude Troll dolls from the 60's with the big tuft of day-glo hair. In fact he and those Troll dolls often have the exact same expression on their faces.

Nope.

Making wolverine a bigger tougher looking guy is actually in an improvement in some ways since it suits his tough clint eastwood/james dean personality...

.

bigger tougher looking guy? he looks exactly the same except he's a little taller, and they didn't do that on purpose. In fact in a rescent interview they intentionally try to make him look shorter with camera angles and stuff. Wehn training him to fight they even did it in a way to help him make himself look shorter.

But Hugh Jackman is very good as Wolverine. I think the most accurate castings of the comic world right now have to be Molina as Ock, Jackman as wolverine, Patrick Stewart as X-avier (accurate doesn't even begin to describe it). I'm not saying there aren't other good ones. I'm just saying those three are the best. X-avier though takes the cake as the perfect actor for the perfect part. It's almost like Professor Xavier was based on Stewart or something. Personality, appearance. It's identical.

I'm a star trek buff. sorry. big captain pricard/patrick stewart fan. I just love his style, voice, and overall acting.

Nope.

I think you have a misconception of intimidating. especially judging from your description of Marilyn Mansen. That guy couldn't intimidate me if his life depended on it. That's like being intimidated by Michael Jackson. Come on. My little sister could beat either one of them up.

I'm assuming you don't really know how the real world works. Intimidation isn't about size. It isn't. We know Topher from that 70's show. He wasn't written as an intimidating character. To say he can't pull it off because he was so skinny? Well I have seen some scrawny brawlers put a major whooping on some big guys, and I'll tell you they can intimidate. It's about persona not physique. Especially in a movie. Any guy with a symbiote, long tongue, and crazy teeth would intimidate the hell out of me.
Magneto? scrawny old man. Intimidating as hell. Mystique? sexy curves, huge ****. still intimidating. The Joker? Intimidating as hell with no muscle!
Acting and script are all that matter. You have not seen him try to act this part, and you have not seen the script.

Sym, has Topher ever acted in a role that required him to be intimidating? No? Then be quiet.

Coming from the guy with the Michael Jackson avatar, I'm not really surprised. Manson is well known for his propensity for attacking people IRL, he's suffered several lawsuits over it. How you regard him is your problem, not mine. Don't care.

I'm assuming you don't really know how the real world works.

Go [bleep] yourself. Really. I'm serious. I am sick and tired of this patronizing crap from you, and I officially inform you that you can put it.... well. Put it far away from me, at any rate. God, how unlikeable can one person get? You're pushing the boundaries of the concept, I can tell you that in sincerity.

Make me. If you can.

... truth about this issue smarting a bit? I thought so :)

The fact that they even cast him shows their going for a different kind of Brock.Just accept it.

Well people keep complaining that they won't be seeing someone who resembles the comic book Brock, when it's pretty clear that isn't what Raimi's going for. It's just a different version of the character,no different than anything found in the Ultimate line.If he's going to be judged, let it be for something he is,and not something he should be.

I like this look, personally.
Topher Grace has not been in a lot of films, to be sure, but in the majority of his parts he has been highly praised for his acting skills. He has not yet proven he can be intimidating - but I believe he has the capacity to be so.
Symbiotica, did you enjoy the last two Spider-Man films? If you did - how do you reconcile your disapproval of Topher Grace's casting with your respect for the creators of the film? You've made your point - you think Topher is a ridiculous choice. So what do you think - was Raimi hungover when Topher Grace was cast? Did he lose a bet?

Topher Grace was cast for a reason. The folks at Sony aren't idiots.

If you didn't like the last two films, then why are you surprised that they keep making choices that enrage you? Same director, same producer, same studio. Same Spidey. Hence, in your opinion, same amount of suckage.

Venom is many things, but "cute" should not be one of them, sorry. Cute is for this:

He hasn't been cast as a scary guy yet because he's had the chance to be in, what? Seven films, tops?

What does my avatar have to do with how not intimidating Marilyn Manses and MIchael Jackson are? One wears lipstick and grabs his crotch while the other wears lipstick, nylons, boobs and grabs his crotch. Holding a devil's bible in the other hand only makes him look ******ed not intimidating.

and your once again being a total hypocrite. trying to call me patronizing? Ha! LOL.

I've heard about his violent tendencies. a bunch of puppies thrown into the audience and animal rights activists breathing down his necks afterwards. real tough.
sorry for the following language mods, but I gotta say it. Only a ***** ass ***** would torture helpless baby animals!

So you think Topher's cute?:o

The point is,Venom as a character in the film may not be a "frightening, unstoppable behemoth of a villain".He might just be a creepy, sadistic, menacing kind of evil.I don't know what Topher is capable of,but I won't expecting to see much resembling the muscular, lethal, thorn in Spider-man's side.

Hell that's way more intimidating than Marilyn Mansen will ever be. Just because he isn't disgusting doesn't mean he isn't more intimidating. And it really doesn't look much different at all from how Brock originally looked.

Yes, that much we figured out already.

For God's sake, I think if we found out "Brock" [and I use the name loosely] was a Mary Kay representative on the side who drove a pink Cadillac on Daily Bugle assignments and wore rhinestone-rimmed glasses a la Dame Edna, nearly everybody here would nearly burst their larynxes cheering, and clap their hands raw at what a great idea that is.

Time for one'a these:  Whatever.

If its figured out, then why are you still making comparisons?

well you did say you liked it. I feel the same way though. I figured we were getting some kind of Ultimate Brock with Topher. I never thought in a million years he would look like Brock. He does though. I'm really surprised.
