69% drop next weekend. Maybe even larger. Calling it now.

Don't think it can be that steep. That's like BvS's drop but that had a much larger opening. From $65m there isn't that far down to go. Although the Sunday was boosted by the bank holiday so that might play a part.

I dunno. All three of my theater showings were less than half full. My Thursday night show was maybe half full. Folks don't seem to be showing up here.

Didn't Civil War have a steep 65% drop in week 2? If they can take that hit with glowing reviews AND an A CinemaScore how will this one fair better?

Well it may not be at 69% but I have a feeling it'll be a steep drop off in the 60s somewhere. It doesn't seem like anyone's talking about it. Even Social Media buzz is middling.

DoFP had 64% drop. I could see 69%, but I think it might play like X3 in terms of legs, so like a 66% drop. FC got 24M, but that was better liked.

I grew up watching TMNT too. I have no desire whatsoever to check it out. Didn't even see the first one.

You were certainly not "hating". That was a general perception across the spectrum--especially on social media. It was never a big hit. Hell, even my posting on this board was sporadic at best this go-round because the premise just wasn't drawing me in. And I LOVE the X-Men! Just not...FOX-Men.

Yeah, it is not just the critics. If you look at trailers and dislikes and likes, First Class and DOFP had better reactions.

Critics don't do anywhere near as much damage to a film's rep as the film being weak.

Reviews are a big part of the build up to movies and i ain't one to have my excitement ruined by critics but it even got to me this time.

Hell, even the Hype's official "How would you rate X-Men: Apocalypse" Front Page Poll has the following top 3 results as of 2 minutes ago:

7 out of 10 19.19% (432 votes)

8 out of 10 18.92% (426 votes)

10 out of 10 15.28% (344 votes)

No matter how you slice or dice it, that is BAD. Usually films get 10 out 10 just because of the pure flux of fanboyism hitting our SuperheroHype! poll. But clearly, as a collective we're not even thrilled with it. That's saying something. I hope FOX is listening.

Yep. I've said it all winter that it was lacking hype in comparison to other CBMs/major blockbusters. Deadpool had a ton of buzz. Apocalypse didn't, and it never did develop it.

The critics didn't stop BvS from Batman v Superman from having a massive opening day. It's the film itself that sunk everyday after.

The fact that this film is underperforming had nothing to do with critics.

I do think it matters, but in the case of BvS the buzz and the novelty of it being the first time Batman and Superman were in the same movie won out for the opening weekend. Apocalypse didn't have that.

So the bad reviews probably contributed, but were far from the only factor.

I doubt the BO would be much better even if it had DOFP like reception. There wasn't much, if any buzz surrounding this film.

Just give in to the fan demands I think it'll be better. Just give the people live action version of this kinda stuff

Depends where you was looking, I don't see any buzz for anything I ain't looking up, the new Spider-Man movie being made... I dunno how much buzz there is because I haven't looked.

Research indicates that reviews do affect box office, but not much. Like a 20 increase on metacritic is associated with ~15M more in final domestic gross of a movie, and that tends to be in the legs.

15M is something, for sure. But, it still would have lagged Days of Future Past with similar reviews.
