Apocalypse X-Men: Apocalypse Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 3

On topic, I do think the movie has a chance to have slightly better legs than the average X film. Opening lower and the sheer collapse that is incoming for Alice will help a lot.
Too much competition though.
Next week is Turtles. ANd that's gonna be huge. Week after that Warcraft and The Conjuring. Week after that is Finding Dory and Central Intelligence.

IMO, X-Men might benefit of getting a Marvel Studios treatment, but I don't think sharing the universe with the MCU is the best idea.

That said, with Marvel, the franchise might not get the priority it deserves, and Fox once didn't suck at making X-Men movies (I'm ok with it except for the FC reboot continuity)

I can see that.

Given that X-men are team books/films I'd expect there to be a slightly higher likelihood of their fans being open to other team books. After X-Men, Avengers and JL are my favourite family of comics and I imagine a fair proportion of those who watch X-films also watch Avengers films.

Yeah, I've been reading comics for almost 45 years, have friends my age who did the same. I was reading both X-Men and Avengers way back starting in the 70's and I know enough people to know I am not an anomaly. To assume X-Men fans don't care about Avengers is just that, an assumption. People can say they know people who don't and I can turn around and show plenty of people who do, so that goes nowhere.

The same ol', same ol'. :funny:

There are fans who are offering constructive criticism on why the box office sales are underperforming and you have fans who think things are fine. Happens after every damn movie that comes out now since 2000.

It really DOES happen over and over, on some boards it's worse than others.

The reviews likely hurt apocalypse and the competition won't do apocalypse any favours either

good god this board sucks it is almost as bad as BVS board and filled with give it back to marvel posters

Some of you guys need to chill

What the hell is going on in this thread.
lol

BvS had little competition but still no 2.0 multiplier because people didn't want to see it.

Not to mention mixed word of mouth. Even on CNN this morning they mentioned the film got poor reviews. Casual fans take that into account when deciding how to spend their weekend.

The only saving grace I foresee is the positive A- CinemaScore rating. That means people walked out of the theater enjoying it. Their personal testimonies may impact the negative word-of-mouth that has already been out there the last couple of weeks since the embargo was lifted.

Well people came out and saw it at first for opening weekend, but they didn't go back and the WOM was not hot.

Will Turtles be huge? Some don't think so.

And that's my biggest hold up about it going to Marvel.
There is so much potential just within the X-Men characters that Marvel, understandibly, wouldn't be able to use it all.
Regular X-Men films
Wolverine films
X-Force
Deadpool
Legion tv show
New Mutants
Genosha tv shows

The X-Men franchise has so much film and TV potential and moving it to Marvel would lose all of that

I don't visit the MCU boards but i imagine they are far worse then here.

Not at all. Fans of those characters are actually very happy at the moment. There is some bickering, but the only major backlash I've seen was over IM3 and the Mandarin.

The reason some of these other folders are so ugly, such as X-Men and DC, is because many, many fans of those characters are angry over what they're getting and are lashing out.

who?

THe last one opened to 65 mill. Even if there's a big drop between the films it still isn't gonna open lower that 50 mill probably. That alone could take the wings out of X-Men's sails

Someone hasn't read the Sharon Carter thread.

I'm not sure how it got that cinemascore rating, I guess from over enthusiast fans. BO should reflect actual WOM, but with the competition, we might never know.

I believe that it is going to open as well as Apocalypse. And with Alice now be a non-factor, Apocalypse could stick it out a bit better than normal.

As for the competition, 2 years ago, those May movies were able to handle it just fine. I mean, Godzilla was still able to scrape over $200 million.

Yeah, with BvS I knew people who enjoyed it but I also knew some who were actually outright angry after that film.

With Apocalypse, there were some people who were disappointed in a few things here and there, and a couple guys were like "meh", but nobody was really angry to that BvS level and overall I would say most enjoyed it enough.

BvS had toxic WOM, Apocalpse really doesn't.

Glad to see another 40-plusser around these parts.

Right??! It's an inevitable part of the Hype Board Cycle. I dunno know people are acting shocked. Maybe they're new.

I'll say this: these boards aren't even close to how bad things were here back in 2006 after X-Men: The Last Stand came out. Those were some SERIOUS vitriolic fights...mass bannings...lawsuit threats...it was really bad. This stuff today is like eating cake in the park by comparison. #theseNoobsdontknow

Its not like Xmen hasn't had some great films over the years. X2 still being my favorite and I have a fondness for FC. And it took the first Xmen film in 2000 to get all this rolling. But 16 years is 16 years. And its wearing thin. Its the oldest franchise going in this current post 2000 comic movie boom with movies released every 2 to 3 years. Soft reboot and all. Spidey wore out his welcome after 5 films.

Actually, I haven't.

The Captain America thread is ugly though, but that has to do with character derailing changes made in the comics as opposed to the films.

I still believe in my point. The happier fans are, the better the board typically is. If fans largely hate what they are being given (ex. BvS), things will get ugly in a hurry.

Yeah even with Civil War, when I was leaving the theater after the post credits scene I heard a lot of people grumbling about them making another Spider-Man movie.

Spidey will still be big, but every franchise can wear out it's welcome a bit. And I just don't know what X-Men can do in order to get back in good graces

I lurked a bit on here and various boards. A lot of anger was present back then.

How does that explain the batboards?

Just curious: when people say Turtles will be huge, how huge? What opening weekend number would be considered "huge" for TMNT?

huge in the way that people will see TMNT instead of X-Men and make a dent in X-Men's earnings
