Apocalypse X-Men: Apocalypse Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 6

What, turning X-Men into a comedy? They won't use that aspect certainly.

That's not what he stated. That's my point everyone was jumping on a bandwagon of him mentioning GOTG as if that's how they want an X-Men film to be. I hope I never see the day where they use that film as the template for a X-Men movie.

Agreed, and I say that as a huge GOTG fan.

Yeah, I doubt there are many tears being shed at Fox. And any time an exec might get the sniffles over XMA's BO, all he has to do is think about that other X-Men film from February and it's all rainbows and unicorns again. Speaking of which, Deadpool is having a nice little run in its final territory, Japan, and just hit $780 million WW this weekend. So combined with XMA, the franchise is less than $10 million away from topping $1.3 billion for the year. Not too shabby.

DAMN. Deadpool is STILL making money?? $780 mill for a $56 million film is just insane.

Creation is not about taking it as it is and transposing it to the X-Men but to see what could be brought, transform, to be in the X-Men. Learning what the movie did right and how you czn have similar effect on another.

I stated the poetry thing because it's seem an evident thing to do in space, they can use those kind of idea to inspirenthem for XMen movies.

Absolutely. A difficult concept for some apparently.

You stated that the original post clearly states that he thought the GOTG film was similar in tone to Claremont's 80s run in X-Men with alien entities and the tone imo is quite different. Everyone is trying to interpret what was stated rather than just read.

According to IMDB X-Men: Apocalypse isn't out in japan till 11th August 2016

Yep I wonder how it will fare over there.

If you look for similitudes you find, if you look for differencies you find, it is as simple. As you said "imo" so it is interpretation like you stated.

It can't be the same. But there can be similtudes.

Speaking of interpretation, how about we wait until Haller posts again so he can further explain what he meant. I know one thing, he never used the word 'comedy'. It's definitely an aspect of Guardians, but I suspect his definition was broader when comparing it to Claremont, which me and ApophènX seem to have taken as such.

Apocalypse is projected to be number 6 for weekend with 5 million bringing it up to 146 million total.which means Apocalypse has just about tied the unadjusted domestic gross of First Class and the adjusted domestic gross of the Wolverine.

It's holding up much better than say TMNT Is doing.

Apocalypse is up to 510 Million WW.146 Million domesticly and 364 million oveaseas.

Apocalypse has very good chance at matching or top the adjusted domestic gross of First class which is 156 million.the unadjusted domestic gross of first X-Men Is 157 Million.Which way it is holding up a final domestic gross of
160 million is possable. It's holding up much better than TMNT and Me before
you which opened after apocalypse.

let's remember fox greenlighted sequels to first class and the wolverine with

first class-146 Million Domesticly+207 Million Oveaseas=353 Million WW
The wolverine-132 Million Domesticly+282 Million Oveaseas=414 Million WW

Days of future past and weapon x or death of logan proves fox does care
about foregin Box office.

so far APocalypse has 146 million domesticly+364 Million+510 Million WW

It has followed the FC and the wolverine path of making enough to warrent a
sequel.the one thing against it is the 178 million budget. But then again first class had a 160 million budget so sequel is still possable

If you view apocalypse as more a first class sequel as Bryan Singer and simon Kinberg once said then Apocalypse was then it did fine.

Fact remains there are plenty who went to see apocalypse who liked it.even
at RT it has a 73% liked.while critics liked last stand and the wolverine more
than apocalypse audences liked apocalypse better than those films.

That is a clear part of GOTG tone? Why wouldn't he use TFA if he just meant Space Opera? At any rate I'd hate the idea of them using any part of Guardians tone and infused it into X-Films. If its just space opera maybe we should just say that? GOTG isn't the first nor c will it be the last when it comes to such things.

Well if he posts on the subject again he can tell us why. We obviously had different interpretations of what he meant. I doubt he was calling Claremont's work 'comedy' in the way you view Guardians. We'll see.

@james06: It's not about genra or tone, it's about the germ of the idea behind them. When you see a movie it has a certain flow of idea and you can learn from it. GOTG had a refreshing way to display certain idea and tone and they can learn from it. Not by copying it, by learning.

Agreed I have no idea what everyone is agreeing with him about that for or is talking about. I owned the "Brood vs. Kitty" comic and it was a horror scifi not a damn comedy.... and the DPS was a tragedy. One of the leads massacres an entire planet then commits suicide. You really think that's similar in tone to GOTG? Really?

:lmao:

an X-men film using the brood based on Claremont's work would be more like
ailens than GOTG.

GOTG is actully more watchable than many other MCU films In full context but bearing like Claremont X-Men it isn't.

Remember Claremont helped get people to stick with X-Men when they
according to society should quit buying comics with how he handled charicaion, and the depth of drama and allegory he wrote with X-Men

I suspect that Warcraft will fall behind next weekend as well. Not great, of course, but about as good as can be expected, all things given.

I think we reached point where fox is more likely to do sequel to apocalypse and not reboot.while it's up in air does fox wait for next X_men film with spin-offs coming to allow bryan Singer to return after doing 20,000 leagues under the sea.does singer oversea things like first class with new director, does fox bring in entirely new director/producer to work with Kingberg.

if we got sequels to first class and the wolverine with less money made than apocalypse
we probally get sequel to apocalypse.it's more when not if i think now.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE
With a $12.8M weekend propelled largely by $8.7M out of China, the international cume has mutated to $364.1M. As noted above, that China number lifts the total there to $111.6M and 732M rmb to make XMA the biggest pic ever in the Fox franchise for that market. In a total 49 markets, this frame saw solid results from France ($737K/$15.1M cume), the UK ($530K/$25.66M), Germany ($352K/$8.74M), Brazil ($284K/$18M) and Mexico ($269K/$18.7M). Japan is still to come on August 11.

China, with all studios now care about,is helping the OS numbers. Also to remember apoclaypse doesn't even open In japan till august so final WW
number could be higher still.

OT: Deadpool is now the 7th marvel brand movie at the WW box office due the make it made in Japan.

Surpassed Spider-Man 3 this weekend.

I'm glad your gloom and doom has changed because you were truly having a meltdown. You can finally see what people were saying from the start.

It's all about expectations and you can be damn sure after the success of DOFP and Deadpool, FOX were expecting ALOT more of Apocalypse.

This will barely match First Class numbers when adjusted for inflation, five years later. It won't even be in the top 10 films worldwide come the end of the year.

FOX won't hit the reboot button quickly, but with Jackman leaving and this cast garnering a luke warm reception, they will be considering their options carefully.

Why is any movie, let alone this one, entitled to be in the top 10 movies WW? And was Fox expecting necessarily expecting a lot more?

Deadline noted in their write-up of opening weekend: "Earlier in the week many rivals predicted a $100M+ opening, but Fox always knew the fourth X-Men movie directed by Bryan Singer was going to file lower, first because they were coming off a high with Days of Future Past (FSSM opening $110.6M), and second those God-awful Apocalypse reviews at 48% rotten."

And Fox may well reboot and consider their options, but was the reception of this new cast really lukewarm? Some reviewers were negative, but others were reserved on judging with limited and screen time. And a number of reviewers who disliked the movie overall were positive on the young cast.

Isaac Feldberg from the Boston Globe. "Sophie Turner, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Tye Sheridan, and Evan Peters are being set up as the franchise's new stars. And they're all terrific."

Alex Abads-Santos from Vox: "Apocalypse's shortcomings eclipse not only Fassbender's performance but also the promising mutant debuts from Turner's Grey, Shipp's Storm, and Kodi Smit-McPhee's Nightcrawler. All three are granted scenes that do their characters justice, adding welcome bits of humanity and, in Smit-McPhee's case, doses of much-needed brevity. You could build a nifty franchise around the three."

Sarah at Lainey Gossip: "And Alexandra Shipp shows some promise as Storm, but unfortunately she barely gets a chance to showcase her personality. Ditto for Sophie Turner, who NEVER gets to show her personality as Jean Grey."

Fox never announced a sequel or anything like they did with DOFP and Deadpool. So, they knew they were heading lower.

To be fair they announced apocalypse even before DOFP release and they did not know how well it was gonna do at box office, chances are they felt confident enough to announce it but it also has to be remembered that they likely knew Apocalypse was coming next while chances are they don't actually know what's coming next.
