Apocalypse X-Men: Apocalypse Box Office Prediction Thread - Part 6

It's all about expectations and you can be damn sure after the success of DOFP and Deadpool, FOX were expecting ALOT more of Apocalypse.

This will barely match First Class numbers when adjusted for inflation, five years later. It won't even be in the top 10 films worldwide come the end of the year.

FOX won't hit the reboot button quickly, but with Jackman leaving and this cast garnering a luke warm reception, they will be considering their options carefully.

This cast wasn't garnered by a lukewarm reception they were actually the highlights in the critics. What people continue to fail to see is the movie possibly not doing its best for other reasons which has been mentioned time and time again. The new cast isn't the issue here. If they would've done some things differently it would have been a much well received movie all over. Though I'm loving these China numbers I didn't expect it to do that well there.

Yes and no. They weren't bashed by critics, but their film sure was and it didn't make very much money either. The overall reception is about more than individual performances. It wasn't the new kids' faults by all accounts, however they certainly could have had a much better start.

Hopefully if FoX continues with these actors they wont cave into The First Class (Jennifer Lawrence especially) contract demands she didn't contribute enough to the Box Office to justify a huge salary going forward and her negative attitude on the press tour was ridiculous.

Considering the film was facing negative backlash practically the entire time because she was J-Law instead of Mystique. I never want to have to listen to Mystique tell Cyclops & Storm how to be X-Men ever again. She should've went off with Magneto not stay in Westchester.

I don't think she warrants a her pay either but her attitude was fine...

Also what's this about people not liking the new cast. Even in bad reviews they leaned more towards liking the new kids on the block (get it? 80s refrence).:o

It's the material they were given. Which does hurt the cast because they were not shown off as strongly as they could have. This was not how you bring Cyclops, Angel, Nightcrawler, Psylocke and Storm into being a new major draw. They all should be. Audiences (not diehard X-Men films fans) needed more reason to care about things moving forward cause they still have not seen great material with them and don't read comics. Each film that under develops or says they are only good as side characters continues to hurt the audiences perception of how important and marketable they are to the X-Men name.

They now have to bounce back with a very strong script, that probably will do even less numbers because of this film before the franchise can regain it's audience lost. The film itself is hurting the cast.

Lawrence isn't coming back. McAvoy probably would. Fassbender said he was willing to come back before, but I wonder if the reception/performance of the movie might discourage him from doing so.

I don't see fassbender returning only mcavoy the only reason magneto should return is because of quicksilver Which I think they should have wrapped up that storyline in apocalypse

Fassbender is only one coming back for sequel to promeuthes. If they want him back he likely will.Ignoring fassbender i say no matter who does next film it's likely to be
Mcavoy+Apocalypse cast.Fox letting lawrence go would help stretching the budget on
other things.I wouldn't be surprised if next film has the budget of first class 160 million.
plus it's probally cheaper to shoot In Montrel as DOFP and apocalypse did than In london and Georgia as First Class did.

Exactly. Magneto is still needed due to that arc not being resolved.

It won't discourage fassbender and no reason why it should.

Personally I don't see them throwing mystique out the picture, I can see them either recasting or paying Lawrence a certain amount for a small role, the character has been to important to just forget about like that.

Tbh there is no point talking about throwing the FC cast aside because you can still afford them and cut the budget if needed, it will mean less CGI but unless the FC cast start asking for 10 million each then it's fine because chances are they will be negotiated back with some deal.

Please with the reaching, they didn't have that much screentime to garner this their film, especially when you had Storm go mute after she became a horseman you know very well this wasn't there film yet an introduction to them. The point still stands that the new cast received mostly praise and good recognition with what little they did. They worked with what they had if you wanted to blame them for doing good with the little they had them that's crazy. Yes I wanted more but that certainly is not their fault that we didn't. So I'm not seeing your point this was mainly a conclusion to the FC cast and an introduction to the new cast. I truly did want more from Storm,Jean,Cyclops,Nightcrawler and Jubilee and for them well some of them to be utilized a bit more than they were but as I said with what they had they did good so I'm not going to fault them when they aren't the ones making the script.

Exactly I don't know where a few people are getting these ideas when in reality it was quite the opposite.

Neither Magneto or Mystique needs to come back after Apocalypse let's have an XMen film actually focus on the XMen and not having to revolve around the same villians time and time again. I can see them coming back for small roles and in that I'll be fine but the focus needs to be on the New XMen for the next film, Magneto to resolve his paternity issues with QS and I could honestly do without Mystique. 10 years later they shouldn't be untrained kids anymore they should have a lot more experience without Raven.

At this point raven is probably in the same position as hank in important role wise so there is no reason she should go anywhere, this isn't the comics or cartoons so they ain't following those rules so they do have to take what has been set up into consideration and they probably will.

Magneto has a purpose to come back for quicksilver who is likely to have his own subplot, they won't forgot about him since he once again was the highlight for many and if they can explore the family stuff with magneto I am sure they will and they won't forget to give magneto and xavier a scene together since people like that stuff.

The new cast probably will get more focus in the next film but it's probably unrealistic to think that will toss out xavier, magneto beast and mystique because In the end you don't have to write characters out for others to shine and if you do then there wasn't anything interesting about them to begin with.

Magneto's entire purpose is unlikely to be about quicksilver.

and people shouldn't dismiss magneot becoming a villain again. In comics magneto took over the school while Xavier was written out of comics into outer space and still eventully came into conflict with X-Men again.

I also don't understand the logic in wanting Xavier gone.hello he is leader of X-men.

If mystique or beast for some reason don't come back they don't even need to get Into
why they aren't around.

They would need to mention why they ain't there, they have been Important to the series the last 3 movies and what's canon is canon, this is not a film sequel to a comic book where you are expected to know this stuff if you read a comic

I don't see magneto becoming a villain again, apocalypse seemed like a turning point for his character

I agree if anything I see him helping the X-men why would he turn evil when the "world" forgave him

I was hoping he would stay at the mansion at the end.

Honestly I can see the whole cast coming back. Even if they get smaller roles. Hugh Jackman came back every now and then for like 16 years, so is not hard to see the others coming back.

Why would the world forgive him? He tore apart half the world, surely killing millions. Magneto should never be allowed to be thought of as the 'good guy'.

Well at least... its finally gonna outgross First Class in North America this Monday. It certainly took its time.

I never mentioned Xavier or Beast leaving so I'm not sure where you got that from, I only said Raven and Magneto should go. If JLaw decides not to come back they have ZERO obligation to even use her anymore how many times have they just discarded certain characters plenty of times. Raven dosent need to be at the school 10 yrs later that role could easily be given to Beast and have Raven go on her way. So what he was the highlight for many they still need to use more characters instead of Magneto it's really getting old and I'm frankly tired of these speeches between Magneto and Xavier. If indeed does come back which I won't mind to much I would prefer if he is good since it seemed they ended on good terms or at least not a full out villian that turns on them once again because that is a formula they love to recycle. Mags playing a part in QS subplot I'm totally fine with since I actually enjoy how Evans handles the character QS. The new cast indeed should have the focus shifted on them as I said if Magneto or Raven are involved them having minor roles I wouldn't mind. In this franchise they have to many chRacters onboard sometimes and others get shafted because they like revolve around the same ones over and over which causes problems in the franchise when you have very little developed characters. Your last sentence dosent make sense so your saying Psylocke,Storm and possibly Jubilee being written down just to give the villian Magneto more to do is ok because there wasn't anything interesting about them in the first place? No I totally disagree there that end scene could've been done so much better to give each one an equal share or give them equal spotlight as Horsemen even having Jubilee as part of the battle even though it was rather short. That's a poor excuse because I'm certain people would have loved to have seen more of them and it would've been slightly less complaints if the characters were utilized correctly. My point though is the next film should focus on the XMen and give minor roles to Raven and Magneto if they indeed return. It should be no more being pushed to the back for these other characters I want an XMen film were the XMen are the standouts and the stars.

Just yikes to the thought of bringing back Magneto/Mystique in the sequel! As if Apocalypse wasn't enough already (not to mention, it was already their 6th movie in the series)! But no, lets bring those two back again! And if the new cast didn't get the focus again, maybe in the sequel AGAIN. Isn't that what people said about Beast after DOFP.

They never had obligation to use magneto or mystique, its not just because of Jlaw and if you read what bryan singer said about a solo mystique movie... he doesn't feel jennifer would be needed for that either so lets ignore that for a moment and remember clearly they have never obligated to take out 2 characters that fans feel should be villains and keep 2 that fans feel should be the only continuous part of the stories and truth be told that probably won't change either.

Raven dosent need to be at the school 10 yrs later that role could easily be given to Beast and have Raven go on her way.

None of them need to be there, it just depends who they feel is important to this XMen movies series

Your last sentence dosent make sense so your saying Psylocke,Storm and possibly Jubilee being written down just to give the villian Magneto more to do is ok because there wasn't anything interesting about them in the first place?

But thats not the case at all though, jubilees scenes were not cut because of magnetos role and she wasn't not part of the team at the end because of magneto either, most of the decisions that are made are not because magneto is getting screentime, yes i get it people are peeved that they didn't get more to do but that has less to do with magneto and more to do with them just not bothering, i mean how difficult would it have been to throw in a couple more lines for them after they become horseman? and all that akali lake stuff was very important also.

Also look at quicksilver he is the highlighted character of the movie and it didn't take much at all to do that, we didn't have to cut characters out so people could get into him... no because people liked the small doses they got of him and want to see more... magneto is not to blame for other characters not getting that same treatment.

And as i said if what kinberg said a while ago about "next generation of X-Men characters" means anything at all then the new cast should get more focus for the next couple of movies but given how important magneto and mystique have been to this series the idea that they will suddenly be pushed to the side and have no importance just sounds unrealistic and since they don't really plan these films out very well chances and likely also don't have enough faith too they probably wouldn't think ah lets not have them in the next one and we will bring them back in the one after that.
