They definitely shouldn't dive into the Pheonix storyline, because you have to invest in Jean and Scott to care.

My map:

Gambit (late 2017): 70-80 million. Introduce Sinister and the Morlocks. X-Men cameo or two.

Deadpool 2 (March 2018): 100-120 million

New Mutants (late 2019): 80-90 million

X-Men 7 (2020): 180 million

If they scrap New Mutants then I guess X-Men 7 can go 2019 potentially. Late 2019.

Gambit movie will not happen. I know I know, Kinberg keeps saying that's happening but he also keeps saying that Fantastic Four 2 will happen. He's not reliable.

Honestly I don't care for Gambit, he should appear as a new character in the X-Foce movie or even in Deadpool.

2017 Wolverine
2018 Deadpool 2 and the New X-Men movie
2019 New Mutants
2020 X-Force

It will not take that long for a new x-men movie, look the time between releases of the x-men latest trilogy.

From X-Men First Class (2011) to X-Men DOFP (2014) it was a 3 year of wait.
From X-Men DOFP (2014) to X-Men Apocalypse (2016) it was a 2 year of wait.

I believe that From X-Men Apocalypse (2016) to X-Men 7 it will be more likely 2 years of wait cause they don't want for the fans to forget about the new characters.

X-Men 7, more likely to happen in May of 2018 or 2019.

Next year they release a extended version of X-Men Apocalypse and then in 2018 the new X-Men movie.

Or the very least they'll use Cyclops, Jean and Storm in the New Mutants movie as teachers for the New mutants.

Is an extra year that much of an issue? It's really not a big deal in the least. Thor 2 was a dud critically. They put it on the back burner and took their time to develop an enticing part three four years later.

The next couple of films need detailed planning. I honestly think we need another trilogy. The last thing you want is for Singer or McAvoy to get burnt out and take their names off the property as producer and star. Obviously they need to be doing other films in between. TDKR also had a four year gap and it worked for the story they were telling.

I agree! (Though, I wonder whether New Mutants can succeed commercially after the subpar XMA performance, domestic.) You are missing X-Force, though. And that could be a monster for the franchise. A billion dollar franchise possibility. It would be a positive for Singer to go as director, but okay to stick around as a consultant or executive producer. Losing McAvoy would be a huge blow, though.

2018 is too soon. "First Class" and "DOFP" were seen positively by fans and critics. There are also no plans right now, and they would need to find a director. Also, they they have to make changes following XMA debacle.

The "everything must be grounded" people may disagree but I'd love it if they brought in the outer space angle and left Magneto out of the story completely.

:highfive:

And I think Fassbender was the best thing in Apocalypse. But this is the way to go. Note, I did not say Dark Phoenix. That can come later, but this is the kind of craziness the franchise needs now.

FOX need to avoid another situation where they are the 4th major superhero release of the year in as many months.

Also, i think marketing (trailers) could have been better. Say what you want about X3 but it did have much more thrilling trailers than this movie.
No one is necessarily panicking besides a few posters here and there. For all of its faults, Apocalypse did more right than wrong I feel like - it rectified past mistakes and sets the stage well for the future. Obvious creative retooling and reassessments are necessary, but Deadpool, Wolverine III, New Mutants, X-Force gives them plenty of time to learn and find someone passionate to take on the flagship franchise.

They're in a flexible position, which is good. They just have to make the right choices here on out with the new IPs and the flagship.

Also McAvoy and Hoult wouldn't be carrying the franchise alone. Tye, Sophie, Kodi, Evan, any of them could blow up in between films like JLaw and Fassy. Tye could even be sooner with Ready Player One.
Yeah, future writers and director have been left with good foundations to build from. I feel there's no need for mass panic about the future of the franchise.

It really has to be remembered that whatever expectations people have about an adaption of the Phoenix saga will be completely different to how it's actually done on screen.

As for magneto... I am pretty certain he is staying, it just doesn't seem likely fox will throw out one of their best talent that continues to impress the critics, although he will probably have a different sort of role now since In apocalypse they had a shot of him floating infront of a bright sky like this was him redeemed

I don't get the point of New Mutants especially after the shellacking this movie took at the box office. Seems to me like Fox's version of the Sinister Six movie.

New Mutants is completely different in tone, characters and storyline to the main X-Men. They aren't ever an official X-team, just a group of students in the school that always fall assbackwards into trouble.

For new mutants to work it can't feel like just another X-Men film but with different characters, it has to be feel different, it has to be a completely different take on the X-Men universe.

WTF  are you serious? It 's like say Teen Titans are like Sinister Six movie.
You can make a movie about Suicide Squad, Guardians of the Galaxy but New Mutant no ?

New Mutants has many magical elements: Demon Bear Saga & Magik for example!

they could easily go this magical route and do a movie where a punch of Xavier's students are teleported into limbo by mistake by Magik. Could be great adventure to see a group of five mutants trying to find their way back to earth from a demon dimension while one of them is getting corrupted by this dimension.

or they could do the "Demon Bear Saga" which basically entirely takes place on a psychic plane. If I remember right, the whole episode takes place in one night when Xavier is out of town and Mirage is attacked by a demonic entity from her past.

both are completely different from everything we saw so far but can still be easily integrated into Singer's universe and the school setting!

I think they will not do New Mutants after XMA underperformed. It was meant to explore another corner of the X-Men universe and be different and distinctive. It was more horror, supernatural, and YA. It seemed like it would have been a great project.

New Mutant could be cheap (90 million). In fact, XA mean they need to make New Mutant to show different side of the universe. People want something differents, it 's your answer.

Yes, and I fail to see how Apocalypse's performance will prevent that. New Mutants never sounded like a $200 mil project. If the budgets are controlled, even Apocalypse's performance can be profitable. I mean, we literally just had Deadpool a few months ago. Other X properties can work.

Also, China sounds like it will save the movie.

It wouldn't hurt to show more sides of this universe, if they went a more horror, supernatural route it could add something fresh and new.

I think with New Mutants, you are going to have to skip over the training and just have them established with powers.

I disagree, I think the student setting is the potential for a very strong film. Really let McAvoy shine.

New mutants is the way to go, a brand new cast and characters, if the action and powers and action are engaging, not a messy story, with some beloved cameos, and it could be a hit.

On the X-Men side, I say enough of Magneto as a villain. It's time for reformed magneto, maybe absent Xavier, and the more outlaw era of X-Men (like late 80's comics)

FOX would defo need to be smart with new mutants, no trial and error crap, have a potential plan or idea and know where you are going or how it all might fit together.
