Just like they promised Storm would be just as important as Eric/Charles/Raven and ended up having two lines of dialogue, no characterization and no character arc?

I don’t remember anyone promising Storm would be just as important as the leads in Apocalypse.

I like how we’ve gone from “Anything but black leather” to “No! not giant yellow X’s on their blue jumpsuits! That’s boring!”

Another huge part of the film, set in 1983, is the introduction of additional younger versions of iconic X-Men characters, in this case Scott Summers/Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Jean Grey (Game Of Thrones’ Sophie Turner) and Storm (Alexandra Shipp). And they’re not cameos. “They’re as much a part of the movie as our main castsays Kinberg.

You can google yourself too. There is probably more, including Singer saying that.

People have to be happy just because they're not black leather? That's beyond ridiculous.

They were as much a part of the movie as the main cast though to be fair. As much as people want to criticise Apocalypse and I have my fair share of gripes. Jean and Cyc got plenty of screen time to introduce them. Storm got shafted after her initial conflab with Apocalypse but I think you’re being harsh if you’re saying they didn’t feature.

I'm loving those receipts. Keep they coming!

And since Kinberg pretty much became Singer's de facto spokesperson, this is very much relevant, eductional and fun. But mostly fun.

I remember when Kinberg said Apocalypse would be the biggest X-Men movie emotionally. lol

"It's Singer's and Ottman's fault. If they didn't cut Kinberg's Storm's one line, she would've been a fully-formed character!"

Scott and Jean had more screentime than Storm and I'm talking about her. How many lines of dialogue she had? She was a background character for most of the movie. She had no motivation whatsoever to join Apocalypse, neither to join the X-Men. Meanwhile, Eric, who has been a main focus for 16 years had a whole arc to motivate him joining Apocalypse. Does that equal being "as much a part as the main cast" to you? I does not to me.

That’s clearly not saying Storm is as important on her own. That’s saying the younger mutants, as a group, are. And that’s true. The stories of the younger mutants made up an important portion of the film. Probably about half or more.

They didn’t say “She”. They said “They’re”, speaking of the characters as a group.

I clearly did not say that. There’s no need to be rude.

What The Guard said... Kinberg wasn’t talking directly about Storm, more the group in general so it’s unfair to speak specifically about one of them. If you look generally at them they got a decent amount. I agree about Storm as I mentioned but I didn’t take his quote as being directed at her.

X-cuses.

Maybe Storm drops the cape and is set to regain her heritage at some point? Is a cape heritage?

So as a Storm fan are you happy with those 2 lines (1 from DOFP + 1 from Apocalypse)?

Not at all! That’s what I said though when I said she got shafted after her first chat with Apocalypse. I was responding more to the fact That quote wasn’t really aimed at her specifically and more at the group of younger characters playing a larger role. After watching Black Panther I think Okoye has more of a presence than Storm since X2 (I use that film because although she had more of a role in 3 I think 2 actually had some part of her character and 3 made her something entirely different)

Well, it was directed to her too. But even if it wasn't, it means that they do not include her in the group of characters playing a large role. Which is really bad, at least for me.

I definitely agree that she needs to play a more vital role. She is pretty much the most consistent leader of the x-men in recent years. My argument was more for the context of that quote.

If I’m honest I think the thing that damages the X-Men films more than anything is the marketing. I remember when the empire covers came out for dofp and there was one for every cameo and main character and people though Toad and Havok would have a larger role.

What worked for Singer in X2 by showing cameos of Shadowcat and Colossus and Syrin was that they weren’t marketed. Fans knew who they were and thought they would show up further down the line but didn’t have an expectation of what they would bring to the film. He lost that when the marketing covered every cameo and it’s dog in DOFP.

Not bothered by the costumes, am bothered by Storms hair...

Im curious. Do u think tye sheridans and alexandria shipps screen time will be increased if Ready player one and Love,Simon are hits?

No. Dark Phoenix was shot a long time ago. And although they can change stuff in the editing process, they can't change the roles these characters were given.

There were also the covers featuring the X-Men fighting a giant Apocalypse.

That was a different time. I don't think any one wants to see their beloved characters as easter eggs like Kitty and Beast were in the first two movies.

The problem is that they are not quite passionate about the X-Men (they are about a few characters, certainly). So they get lost in the process and try to please the fans with stuff like, "Hey, let's put a Dazzler easter egg here and give Jubilee and Psylocke comic accurate costumes", while giving no substantial role for beloved characters and treating them poorly like Storm, Psylocke, Jubilee or Angel.

Nice costumes, but I actually like the FC/Vaughn ones slightly better.
Nonetheless, its nice to see them in a non black look.

Shame about Storm's hair, but I'm praying she doesnt get shoved into the background and that we see more concern and a sisterly bond with Jean in this picture as opposed to her blase tone in X3.

I'm really excited to get a first look at these costumes in a HD pic or poster. I love how classic blue with a yellow X is, and I like that the X is placed higher up on their bodies. Looks much better than the First Class suits and something the X-men should have been wearing for a decade now.

I'd be hoping for a cool Cyclops power display, but with Apocalypse already dead, Sinister a no-show and Cameron Hodge is who? I'm guessing we won't get any of his big Claremont moments. Nevertheless, he had a really neat emotional moment with Dark Phoenix where he calms her down before Charles restores Jean in the comic arc. That'll probably make it in some way, shape or form.

Id loooooooooooooooooove to see Cyclops much more dynamic and strategic in battle, running, jumping and doing fast and unpredictable moves to avoid attacks and them BLAST, BLAST BLAST, attacking two or three enemies back to back.

some people have said over the years that his power is limited so there isnt much the movies can do. I 100% disagree, its not about how cool your power is, its about how the director/crew create and film the sequence. You know, creativity.

we are in disagree about everything, but in that you're right.

Well, his power certainly is limited, but it's also much more powerful than any other mutant's power (except for Jean Grey and Professor X obviously). I mean, after all, when Jean funneled him energy, he practically went Super Saiyan and destroyed Apocalypse at his peak power - this was when he almost became a Celestial and could withstand the full might of Black Bolt's scream. He's the only one who can harm Mr. Sinister, and his destruction of Essex in Inferno is dope. Plus, the way Havok powers him up so that he just buries Cameron Hodge under the Earth is devastating as well. Nevertheless, it is him as an emotional core that this film should realize if it's taking on the Dark Phoenix Saga.

I can see Cyclops having substantial power combat with his beams during the alien invasion, if its similar to The Avengers where Stark is hand laser cannonning Chitauri pods out of the sky.

Its all about the use of the camera. Do you guys remember the Wolverine and the X-Men intro? Cyclops used his blast and the camera quickly move away from him creating a pretty badass shot. And all he did was using his blast. So.. its all about how creative the director wants to be.

And of course seeing a huge blast from a long distance has a bigger impression on the viewer

If Cyclops doesn't do that ridiculous thing where he bounces optic beams off several surfaces to hit his target, or use his optic beams to slow a fall, we riot.
