Yeah...nah

Butchering the cure and Phoenix stories as well as killing Cyclops and giving Rogue the cure make Last Stand worse then Apocalypse. Sorryboutit.

Apocalypse is flawed as hell but it don’t come close to that.

Your opinion. Critics still find it a better film. Again, its not just being faithful to the comics, but as a film over all.

Anyway, Apocalypse butchered Archangel, wasted Psylocke and Jubilee after their first version being retconned. The origin story of Cyclops, Jean and Storm are butchered as well. Havok and Beast were wasted as well. Apocalypse was a crap villain. While Logan was shoehorned. Are we supposed to celebrate just because they didn't butchered a very familiar story from the comics and didn't kill familiar characters like Cyclops and Xavier? No.

Here’s hoping Dark Phoenix isn’t either. Not killing off Cyclops should be a good start.

Apocalypse is a tad disappointing, but I don't know of its worse than X3.

I don't even hate X3, its an entertaining film but I still have no idea why the Phoenix is even in this movie. She really serves no purpose to the plot other than just being there. I like it as a movie, but its not a good X-Men film.

The Last Stand. The brotherhood & the morlocks-inspired factions are using her as the batting ram against the cure. It certainly could have been a much more compelling story even with the 2 storylines intertwined, since Magneto & Xavier/Wolverine tried to sell this back-and-forth between her psyche whilst other characters were willingly and unwillingly losing their powers.

My understanding of this vers that Kinberg's directing is that it would be much more personal than scifi thriller.

X3 is definitely worse but Apocalypse is on the same level as it makes many of the same mistakes

Phoenix is there to pick up the loose end that X2 developed. Too bad it was done poorly and doesnt get nearly the focus it should have

I agree x3 is much worse it was so horrible I remembered walking out the theater angry. apocalypse has its flaws but I prefer xa over x3

That's like the original Dark Knight Rises title card. Just the title. Nothing more. Unless those white specks of dust are stars and not dust.

I maintain that The Last Stand and Apocalypse are equally weak for opposing reasons.

Jesus Christ. I thought her name being Yukio was just the writers being ra--, err, tone deaf. Didn't realize it was because she was ACTUALLY Yukio.

**** this series.

Agreed. I should be over continuity by now but... urgh. It gives me a headache. Why Yukio and not one of hundreds of other characters, including Surge who actually fits the role better? The explanation is even more baffling. Yukio may be a minor comics character, but she's actually a pretty recognizable face in the film universe.

We might be divided on Last Stand and Apocalypse but I think everyone can agree that Origins was the biggest turd of the franchise lol.

Yep.

Not to mention Last Stand was the train wreck that put the franchise on its current peculiar path. Barring a reboot, there was no way to really "continue" past TLS in a satisfying way without something as circuitous as Days of Future Past.

It was Last Stand that (badly) killed off Cyclops, Xavier, and Jean, committed character assassination on Rogue, and "ended" the franchise, so as to have only spinoff prequels. In fact, if XOW hadn't been an even objectively worse movie, we might not have gotten something as good as XFC, as they were at the time hellbent on making David Goyer's second directorial effort after the masterpiece that is Blade: Trinity on "X-Men Origins: Magneto."

... I just don't get it. As disappointing as Apocalypse might be, First Class and Days of Future Past reinvigorated a the franchise with a bigger more comic book-y scope to this universe and its characters, undid the damage of X3/XOW, and paved the way to getting the A-list team back. The only other option would have been a hard reboot (which I guess some would prefer). Yes, in retrospect, Apocalypse should have been about the new students and not Bryan Singer running in a circle after his older movies. But even so, Apocalypse bridged us out of Singer's canon, and has now put the focus on Cyclops and Jean. Finally. But we're excited to reboot before we see what that looks like?

I actually think the Deadpool films and Logan and the First Class movies all complement each other into a much more interesting (if messy and continuity-splattered) franchise than where X3 and XOW left us. People just can't see past the nostalgia goggles.

Its the lack of quality control. Kinberg as an overseer should be doing his job and make sure that characters don't over lap Xpecially this is still part of whatever film franchise Wolverin Jackman was part of. Like it's great if the writers have creative freedom. But not this kind of creative freedom where its okay to ignore characters from the previous films. Yukio wasn't even badly portrayed in The Wolverine to be retconned. They have hundreds of characters to choose from and they went with Yukio, who once again they turned into a mutant which was fine the first time but second time, really? Then you also have Shatterstar/Black Tom wasted.

So whoever is in charge with the Deadpool films isn't eXactly different from Singer and or those directors/writers who only really cared about certain characters and doesn't care if certain characters overlap.

For me Apocalypse is a good movie (better than all MarvelStudios ones)
Origins is a disaster (worst that all MarvelStudios movies)

How were Shatterstar and Black Tom wasted? They have some of the most memorable scenes in Deadpool 2. :hehe:

So Cyclops wasn't wasted in X3 then since his death scene was memorable then. Okay.

Now that's an opinion.:hmr:

The difference is folks before and after care about who Cyclops is. And you know, there could even possibly be a way to kill Cyclops off in a film and make it mean something (like Logan at the end of Logan).

Black Tom and Shatterstar? Most comic fans don't know who they are, and their deaths improved that movie, because they were hilarious. :sly:

Its not the public's fault that they don't care about the younger version as much as the original gang... Just look at the boX office results, even after X3, they were a big draw to Dofp. Apocalypse's cast doesn't have the same effect and that's why Dark PhoeniX would have a big obstacle to overcome even if its a good film.

And those nostalgia glasses you we referring to is why people saw Logan. And why there are so many reboots/sequels/revival happening.

Like you? If you have read Deadpool comics, you would know that Tom is essential to Deadpool, and Shatterstar is not a background character in X-Force. Comic fans don't know them? Or people who had no clue about the comics.
