Being honest, I think its a bit pointless to release little things now. General audience wont notice, or if they do, they wont care. The biggest impact is a trailer. Fox should release an impressive trailer to get people attention. Then a great teaser poster too, something unique/new. It cant be another generic team composition with Charles, Mystique and Magneto front and center, that wont create any hype, actually it would create bad word of mouth on the net and the fanbase, getting once again the feeling that the main stars would be those three, Fox marketing team should change their posters approach drastically. Put Jean, Cyclops and Storm front and center, with the rest as supporting. That would feel "new" somehow to general viewers, because it would feel like a different type of x-men movie, with this "trinity" as main players once again after more than a decade (x3, x2...) Then once they release the trailer, they can continue with a viral site, new pics and all.

the costumes will be a little problem too, those yellow/black costumes are nice... but not excelent/eye candy, so general audience wont be impressed/interested with these costumes. Not when Wonder woman, Captain Marvel, Thor, Cap and co are all wearing their classic, more colorful versions. Kinberg made a big mistake here. but whatever.

Yes, DOFP marketing was incredible.
photos, interviews, videos showing power of every mutant of the movie, news, and various other things, even the site of the movie was very beautiful and interesting.
so I'm bothered by the silence in DP, this movie has a lot of things they can use for marketing, the last movie in the fox, aliens, a film focused on a female character, various things, but they just are not doing anything.
To give a perspective on marketing time schedule for DOFP:

-They did a set tour video of DOFP at CineEurope while the film was still shooting 11 months before release. Dark Phoenix First Look for Entertainment Weekly was released two months after filming and 14 months ahead of the Feb release date (11 months before the original Nov date).

-They did a presentation at San Diego Comic-Con in July while film was still shooting 10 months ahead of release date. Viral website Trask-Industries.com released 10 months ahead of release.

-Singer presented footage at Fantasia International Film Festival in August, the same month they wrapped shooting (obviously no finalized visual effects), 9 months ahead of release date.

-First official trailer for DOFP released 7 months ahead of release date (keep in mind this trailer wasn't VFX heavy), along with short seconds Instagram preview clip. Dark Phoenix trailer screened at CineEurope (last month in June) 8 months ahead of Feb release date.

-Viral website TheBentBullet.com released 6 months ahead of release date.

-Empire covers released 4 months ahead of release date.

-20th Century Fox presented footage at CinemaCon in March 2 months before release. 2nd trailer with more VFX shots released 2 months ahead of release date.

-Ellen Page presented footage at MTV Movie Awards 1 month ahead of release. Mid-credits scene with Mystique in Vietnam attached to The Amazing Spider-Man 2, 1 month ahead of release. Viral website 25Moments.com released 1 month before release date.

If this is anything to go by, then marketing for Dark Phoenix should begin to pick up starting in August. As trailertrack pointed out, studios are changing the marketing for movies. Aquaman is likely to get its 1st trailer release this month before the film releases in Dec (a 5 month span) and their 1st look was shown 9 months before release. Some studios are not releasing trailers earlier like they use to and one reason is because of VFX shots. The other is the risk of going stale. Venom's trailer released 8 months before the release date and was called "comically underwhelming".

The issue here is the REASON you and JP are claiming the shot was cut which doesn't make any sense.

1st, pretty sure the exploded mansion, to which the group were standing within, got the attention of Stryker's team. The shot of the trio standing in the rubble in the movie was before Stryker arrived. Cyclops blast would've happened before the helicopters got there. 2nd, Stryker's men later walk right up to that area searching anyway. They literally could have replaced the shot in the movie of Cyclops crying with the cut shot of the blast and the scene still would've played out the same way. Jean shielded the group before they were discovered, which still would've happened even if the blast from cyclops was left in. So for JP to say that shot was cut because it would draw attention to that spot make...no....sense. Stryker's men still went to that very spot in the movie. One of the men looked exactly at the spot they were hiding. THEY CAN'T GET NOTICED IF THEY CAN'T BE SEEN. There was no problem to begin with. There is no inconsistency. So maybe you're the one confused. The shot was probably cut because it looked cheesy. Keeping the shot in the movie wouldn't alter anything about the way the scene worked.

And then for you to later mindlessly repeat the argument

As if they weren't already searching that exact area as shown in the movie when they arrived. How does this make your reason for the shot being cut relevant? If the shot wasn't cut, how does that change anything? It's a meaningless nonsensical argument. Editing it out doesn't solve a problem that never existed. The fact that Jean can shield themselves IS what made your argument.....pointless & irrelevant. Mentally shielding themselves from detection means the searching would go nowhere meaning editing and replacing the Cyclops shot changes nothing except Cyclops reaction. Is that not a logical conclusion? Or do you simply not like the fact that I pointed it out and called your argument irrelevant? The scene still would've ended the same way. Do you really need a scientist to figure this out? Don't know how much more to spell that out.

Clearly you didn't stop talking about it (another lie of yours). The evidence is there for all to read. So why wonder such a hollow question? What was pointless and nonsensical was your constant repetition of an illogical argument. I'm sure you realized that and didn't want to admit it. Pretty certain that's why you didn't like me revealing that error. My comment, however, was not pointless....because unlike you I actually made a logical statement that has a point.

Nah but nice try though. I'll just say let's agree to disagree.

The silhouettes suggest none of those are X-men. Not sure why that was posted here...

Anywho, SDCC this week. Gotta say I'm excited. Mostly for anything Hasbro announces when it comes to X-men Marvel Legends, but also what if anything Fox shows.

Can we leave that in the appropriate thread? For a quick second I thought that we actually got some real news. Lol.

dont worry, Fox is unable to release posters as iconic as that one lol

Nothing is as iconic as the First Class head-in-crotch teaser posters. I’ve enjoyed the teaser posters for all of the films after that, though. I wish I could say the same for the theatrical posters.

I was half expecting M. Night's "Glass" posters to repeat the face-in-crotch look for Samuel L. Jackson and McAvoy.

I thought the idea of Apocalypse crushing a skull was good. The execution (ie. bad Photoshop job) left a lot to be desired.

The DOFP theatrical floating head poster was also very questionable in its Photoshop execution (Xavier and his exploding diarrhea wheelchair, Storm's shapeless costume, Giant Mystique's bad make-up, etc).

Such an original pose!

you just proved my point: I said iconic, not original.

Something iconic is an image that stays in people's minds over the years/decades, something that becomes a "classic", something very popular.

So yeah, that fanmade poster used an iconic cover, and even from an iconic storyline: Dark Phoenix saga. So more reason to be inspired by all of it.

That X-Men comic X looks very X-Men Movie like. Obviously it isn’t anything related but I thought it was upon first seeing it.

From Hollywoodreporter :

“Simon, you've worked on nine X-Men films. Is there a point when it's too much?

KINBERG I hope never. We have found in terms of doing stand-alone movies like Logan and Deadpool that we can smuggle a different genre into the comic book movie. Logan was a Western, and Deadpool was like a Monty Python, R-rated comedy. Genre material has sort of pushed out a lot of drama and comedies. If you can smuggle those kinds of movies into this very digestible genre, then you can have more fun.”

“ When it comes to the fifth season of a show or the ninth movie in a franchise, how concerned are you with the barrier to entry for new fans?

KINBERG I feel the obligation is the opposite. It's not a barrier of entry in terms of catching the audience up, it's actually a barrier of catching the audience off guard. You want audiences to feel that it's not the same movie. It is as fresh as any other movie out there, it's not being compared to previous X-Men movies, it's being compared to Black Panther, to Avengers, to Arrival, anything within the genre spaces we're talking about.“

Funny that Kinberg quote of him wanting to never leave Xmen is followed by the news of Comcast departing from the deal for Disney to get the Xmen title.
