Does critical acclaim not matter anymore? Because you do know Marvel Studios does that one too.

Critical acclaim?

You have a distorted sense of this.

The 'critical acclaim' on Marvel Studios (but about cinecomics in general) is like when you said "You are the best!" to a child who learns to ride a bike.

Mostly the american critics, they discern the genre so the best vote on a cinecomics is not the same of the best vote on a drama.
The point is: they are cinecomics, so they have to be funny and entrateinment. So, if you get it, it's a great result.
If a cinecomics try to be something more, critics expect more.

'You don't say "you are the best" to a professional bikers only to stay in balance.

at the end of the day, what matters the most to studios are the real results and the boxoffice, and the general audience keeps going to watch Marvel Studios movies, while less and less people go to the X-men team movies (aside from Dofp) so that should tell you something.

General audience is tired of Fox's x-men. Wonder why.....

if they were loving the X-men movies, the audience would increase, but its not, so... thats the thing. Fox is doing something wrong clearly, if the x-men keep loosing audience in many countries, USA included.

That isn't working in that mode.

Twilight made more money than Only Lovers Left Alive or than Addiction.
And they are all about vampires.
Money has nothing to do with quality.

Actual fans of Spidey, Cap and Thor (and fans of movies in general) are really disappointed by Marvel Studios.

Actual fans of the X-Men are really disappointed by Fox Studios.

Too much wasted potential. It's time for a fresh approach.

Characters like Storm, Psylocke, Emma Frost, Rogue, Angel, Apocalypse, Bishop, etc etc etc, deserve a more respectful treatment.

And deserve more lines than "No...but we can slow them down."

I can't ever remember any of them ever calling her Ororo.

...You do realise that after DOFP, there has been only one team X-Men movie, right?
And it was a terrible film so it shouldn't be a surprise that it did less than Days.

Yes, if you for 'fans' mean the Feige's fans who read stories on wikipedia pages and search in google for images 'cause the important thing is the popularity (and the money grossed by film), ok you are right.

but for me, to be a fan of Spidey it's not about that.

I've been a fan of these characters for nearly half a century and you are either lying or EXTREMELY misinformed. Cap fans are THRILLED with Chris Evans portraying Captain frikkin America in a string of wildly successful, extremely well made films that made him one of the most popular comic book characters in the world. The same goes for Hemsworth's Thor, who's the star of the wonderful Ragarock and the mega hit Infinity War. Spidey has also been elevated back from his low point after ASM2.

As a very long time X-Men fan - I started reading the mag during the hiatus years - I am very happy that the mutants will get similar treatment under Marvel Studios.

Nope.

I’m over half a century old, been reading comics since the early 1970’s, actually a big Marvel and DC fan, overall happy with Marvel Studios so your statement is false.

Im talking about both FC and XMA.

And X3 was a terrible film too and still made more money than Apocalypse in USA so the point remains: the prequels (except Dofp with both casts) dont interest general audience enough. A good part of general audience left when Fox used just the young actors.

This has been discussed thousands of times, so the fact that some still try to deffend it somehow is curious, to say the least

It doesn't matter because some people will never really admit Marvel is good at what they do. You point out the critical response, but suddenly critics don't quite get movies so the critical response doesn't count for MCU movies. You point out the Box Office success, they say a few bad movies had big box office, so it doesn't count. You point out how satisfied the fans are with Marvel Studios, which is clear in this forum and every comment section of enterteiment web sites, but it's not enough because the fans only want costumes. You point out the historical impact Marvel had both in the industry with the idea of shared universe, which other studios are trying to copy, and also recently showing the importance of representation. It. Doesn't. Matter.

Just don't feed the troll.

We've been very happy with what Marvel has been doing with their characters for the past 10 years. And almost all of us are excited to see the X-Men finally done properly, with our beloved characters treated respectfully.

I can't ever remember any of them ever calling her Ororo.

The first movie Professor introduces her first to Logan as "Ororo Monroe also called Storm..."

Don't call people trolls. Also no one has given any of the Marvel films an Oscar even in technical aspects even though you seem to be clinging to their critical acclaim.

I just pray none of the MCU Xmen films end up like Homecoming, GotG or Ragnarok.

Fox X-Men films never won an Academy Award either, so that’s not really a stick you want to poke with. There were nominated for some just as Marvel Studios films have been), but they never won.

Anyway, maybe today SDCC will share something, like a poster or even a update one way or the other.

He just proved the point I made above. It doesn't matter how much success Marvel has, is never enough to give them credit.

How many Oscar nominations Marvel has and how many Fox has with the X-Men?

Just wait for the next excuse...

Oscars are literally the only awards they haven’t won, they seriously have won a lot of every other type of award and yes, as you alluded to, they have had several Oscar Noms, just no Oscar as of yet.

Anyway on DP, anyone actually on here at SDCC? Didn’t Fox have a panel today?

I honestly don't think there will be any news about Dark Phoenix at SDCC.

I still think they'll wait.

I heard they were going to show something for “Gifted”, would not be surprised if they at least talk about “Legion”, if they are totoslly silent about DP without even a teaser, I would have to consider it weird. I get having no full trailer, but no teaser at SDCC? Hmm.

Isn't there reports they'll reshoot the third act? Who knows what's wrong with the movie. Maybe they'll wait the reshoots to get a proper trailer.

Off the top of my head here’s the number of Oscar WINS the following movies have had:

X-men: 0
X2: 0
X-men First Class: 0
X-men Days of Future Past: 0 wins (1 nomination)
Deadpool: 0
Logan: 0 wins (1 nomination)

If we were to judge these movies against your post, then this franchise is hated by the critics.

I doubt that was what you wanted to achieve.

Thankfully, most people here love/like most of the movies on that list (to varying degrees) and know better than to equate Oscar nomination and/or win into “critical acclaim.”

My point was of they are as Brilliant as you say they should have been had an Oscar. At least Fox has a BAS nod (the first superhero film to ever have one!)

But yeah I guess you're right they didn't win so... I guess Disney's whopping 0 nominations shows just how much of a critical darling they are.:o

There’s a Deadpool panel at the coveted Saturday Night scheduled for an hour at Hall H. Not sure what they can show for a movie that’s already come out (and I’m one to underestimate Deadpool’s popularity, so maybe this is the proper venue for that character, who knows?). There’s been talk of an X-Force event (reveal?).

The last two X-men cast showcases were unannounced (DOFP and First Class), so one can only hope they at least have something.

Lady Bird didn't win any Oscar last year. Do you really measure a movie sucess by Oscar wins only?

And if you want to know how much critical success they have, you can check this out. Also the number of Oscar nominations they have. And BAFTA nominations. And Writers Guild of America, and Screenwriters Choice Awards, and Film Critics Association Awards, etc, etc...

And when it comes to Logan, no one here try to discredit this achievement. And that's the difference between us and you.

Marvel Studios has had several nominations, not zero.

Unless you mean the screenplay nom that “Logan” got? An achievement that it was the first comic movie to do so? That indeed was nice. However, since “The Dark Knight” didn’t get a nom for that, is it’s screenplay suddenly rubbish? Since it was the only one that did, are all other comic movies (including the X-men films you like) rubbish as they never got a nom for that either? Can’t you see how silly that argument is?

If you like a film franchise or not, that’s cool and your opinion is as valid as anyone else’s, but I wasn’t shoving in your face how “brilliant” they are, I was stating facts. Yeah I like the MCU, yeah there is stuff I would change if it was me, but I wasn’t even bringing up any of that, I brought up facts about something you stated and was warning you that you were using a criteria that went more against you than for you.

So yeah, can this be dropped and get back to DP?

...
0 wins but since you mentioned nominations, here goes:

Iron Man: 2 nominations
Avengers: 1 nomination
Iron Man 2: 1 nomination
Captain America Winter Soldier: 1 nomination
Iron Man 3: 1 nomination
Guardians: 2 nominations
Doctor Strange: 1 nomination
Guardians 2: 1 nomination

So why are we talking about Oscars again? The last significant Oscar win for the genre was for Suicide Squad, and you’re really not gonna sit there and say that was a “critical” darling are you?
