Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

How can this happen ONE day after a huge marketing campaign? This makes absolutely no sense and really isn't fair to fans who have been waiting in the dark for months with no official word about this film.

I can imagine this news should be like a huge kick in the balls for all those fans who were highly supportive of this movie/director even against all the odds.

But it's the reality now.

Not entirely. Marvel has producing rights over the Fox films if Fox allows them to execute it.

If they couldn't work together, The Gifted will be canceled right now.
That's true... it's crazy. That the Licensor of the Rights has just made an outside deal to purchase one of its Licensee... I mean Disney has a huge leeway in how Fox is doing its business in regards to Marvel and its rights.

It's not so cut and dry.

Agree. They have to think longterm especially when Executives are moving over to Disney when the deal is completed. You cant plan two universes without planning the eventual merger.

They need to rename this movie X-Men: Sisyphus.

Like the Greek myth, he is condemned to push a heavy stone up to the top of a steep mountain for all eternity. Every time it gets to the top and he gains a glimmer of hope, the stone rolls back down to the starting point again and his hopes are dashed as he has to start the process all over again.

That's what happened when the trailer came out. Top of the mountain one day. Hopes rise. Next day it's delayed until June. It rolls all the way back down. Hopes are dashed. Cycle begins again. :o

This is a Disney test too. This way they can say a PG-13 Deadpool can be just as successful an a R rated version.
I gotta disagree with ya there. Disney already said that it makes sense that Marvel handle all the Marvel properties it is getting back from Fox. Do Marvel movies cling on the fact that they are owned by Disney? No. Does Disney make Marvel show the Disney studios logo as prominently as Marvel Studios logo at the beginning of movies? No. Be honest here, when you watch a Marvel movie, is Disney in your face with reminding you they own Marvel Studios? Disney people are not stupid. They are all about the bottom line. They know full well NOT to mess with Deadpool R rating. If it ain't broke...The GA aren't going to be thinking about Disney every time they think about Deadpool, so I highly doubt Disney is worried about it.
Nothing is going to change in regards to how Disney & Marvel interact. They are too smart to mess with something that makes them wheelbarrows full of money.
Also, Disney by law, can not do anything with Fox properties right now. They are still Fox properties.
A lot of people here have a HUGE issue with Disney & think the worst about them no matter what. It's really weird.
I could understand worrying & being concerned about interference if this was all happening 10 years ago, before Marvel Studios proved themselves.

Ok but why can't they push back this stupid Alita movie that no one cares about instead?

The trailer for that was released in July and only has 9 million views. DP was released 2 days ago and has 8 million, not counting the versions on James Corden and FilmSelect's channels which also each have over a million.

Seriously.
I honestly never heard of that film until today.
Not one peep.

Repeat after me:

This will be released on streaming, not theaters.
This will be released on streaming, not theaters.
This will be released on streaming, not theaters.
This will be released on streaming, not theaters.

I still don't believe that. I just think Fox is stupid and this has more to do with Allita which is an even bigger mess. And if that did that happen I would torrent it before I give disney a dime for their POC streaming service.

I look forward to how this getting delayed yet again is somehow a good thing for the film

Any devils advocates out there wanna take a crack at that one?

Simple, the movie is so bad that it will poison the brand going forward. In order to counter that, it gets delayed, and eventually shelved to streaming, meaning the X-Men brand goes to Disney untainted, and the Phoenix saga can be done right in the MCU.

Disappointed to hear the news of the delay. February was a great spot had the potential of making a lot of money releasing it in June in a crowded summer will definitely hurt its box office

Honestly, to read some of the comments in here....

As much as I'm not fond of the release date change, and as much as I don't much care for the trailer and am exasperated with Fox's treatment of key characters, I do not think this calendar shuffle has anything to do with Disney, nor do i think the film will go straight to streaming.

It feels like it's just a bit of a mess caused by Battle Angel.

And with Dark Phoenix now in a prime summer spot, the pressure really is on for this film to deliver on blockbuster levels...

Sorry, i was asking people who think this will actually be a good thing for the film itself, not the implications for the MCU X-Men movies

You know, the people who thought fantfourstic wouldn’t bomb and think fox can do no wrong

Their only argument is China, it could be they are thinking like that. The other possibility is they don't care since they might be out of job in a few months.

this is an aprils fool, right?

right??

this just cant be real.
Fox is definetly more fuc** up than I already thought. What a mess, man. Now its impossible to pretend the bad inside word was all false.

The fact they care more about potentially doing better in China vs. destroying the remaining goodwill among hardcore fans who have made them money from these movies for nearly 20 years says it all really.

The only thing I can think of is some sort of write off for the Studio. That's all I got.
Unless you want to go Conspiracy theory route...The movie is SO bad to the point of lost cause, that it is decided it is better to lose all the money put into it rather than have it tarnish the property any further. The worse it is, the longer they would have to wait to incorporate it into the MCU. Marvel isn't going to shoe horn them in just to have them in the MCU. I think FF can be introduced at some point in Phase 4(toward the end) because the previous atrocity would be forgotten by then. But X-Men can't if this movie gets shoved down our throats if it's really bad. FF was released knowing it was garbage & was promptly forgotten & got the red headed step child treatment.
But that is all just me spit balling craziness.

It's just a re-release dude. Chill.
Grab the pitch forks if they said Deadpool 3 was going to be PG-13. Now THAT would be a gut punch.

But. That's extremely likely with the Disney acquisition. So what difference does it make?

Remember when November was a good month? People were saying (and I agreed then) that it was good for the franchise to move from that busy summer month. And then it got moved to Valentine's date and the defense then was that they didn't want to go head-to-head with a 4 quadrant movie in The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. Plus that February date worked out so well for Deadpool and Black Panther, they said.

I wonder what Kinberg et al will say this time.

"June is a great month because _ _ _ movie that was released in.. 2010 or so was a big hit, so Fox wants to take advantage of that month"

whatever it takes :funny:

...matter of opinion I guess because that wouldn't bother me as much. I'm here for X-Men team movies. The fact that Deadpool has become the most culturally relevant and popular mutant among the general public makes me sad honestly lol.

Well, at this point because it's been pushed back again, I have to acknowledged that there's either problems with the film or issues going on behind the scenes at the studio or even both. So I guess that's that. I like the new tone from the trailer. I like the VFX. The new suits. Everything looked great. A big step up from Apocalypse. But, we'll just have to see how it play out now.

According to Frosty of Collider, part of the reason DP got pushed back was the reshoot scenes needed more time for work on the VFX effects.
