Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I will never understand people railing against Rogue taking the cure as much as they did. I think it's because people lost out on "Miss Marvel Rogue", per the wishes of fans prior to the event.

The word is that Fox shot multiple endings and focus grouped Rogue taking the cure VS not taking it. Taking it won out.

The movie also showed that the cure is not permanent, essentially saying via metaphor that you cannot just cure yourself of what's different about you, so it's really kind of a moot point. The movie doesn't even send the message people imply that it does, as pointed out earlier, Angel chooses not to take it, and the movie essentially says "Decide for yourself, not based on what others want".
I mostly agree there.

X3 had a lot of actors in busy schedules! The ot cast were on demand movie stars at that time. Well to me, Fox had some fault too. When X2 went big, they should have secured everyone including Singer. They were quite short sighted during those times. And this is another reason why I want Fox to be done with the X-Men, they have no concrete plans for the whole franchise. Like a lot of their X films are doing their "own thing" instead of being connected in 1 universe. Even the TV shows. God knows, how disastrous/confusing things would have been if Fox is still making X-Men films up to the late 2020s.

As far as I remember, Rogue had to be written out due to scheduling with Anna, so to justify it they wrote it that she got the cure. Cyclops, I think that might've been a schedule thing too.

Huh?

The scene is her either “Yes I took the cure!” Or “No, Bobby I didn’t take the cure.” How would her schedule have affected either scene?

They actually filmed both scenes too. The other one where she doesn't take it was on the DVD.

Kinberg so far has done what... Tell someone it is coming out in February. Geez feel the buzz! :o

The reaction to anything he puts out will be negative. The comments section will be hilarious.

The trailer should close the comments section on YouTube as well.

The top comments will be "Where's Wolverine" and "Give it back to Marvel" lol

yeah, it will be very interesting to see most people comments under the trailer. Should be fun lol

I remember being really frustrated after watching those scenes. Rogue shouldn't have taken the cure. In fact she could have been awfully useful in the fight against Jean! And Hank should have gone back to school.

Yeah which is why I don't disagree with the radio silence they are doing with their projects nowadays.

That's not true. It was a bad script.

More proof of how bad the script was and how clueless the studio was. How is deciding for yourself to take a cure that's basically not even permanent a real choice?

I don't. in some ways i think beneficial since people won't judge it based on over time hype they built up for themselves. yeah it does mean people get all hopeless and gloomy waiting but Logan had absolutely no hype until the first trailer came out. and in a way it was probably a good thing.

When it comes to trailer comments. its gonna be about average when it comes to any movie. to expect nothing loads love and no nitpiks wouldn't be the internet

Well the characters didn't know it wasn't permanent.

IMHO that's not good storytelling to do it that way.

The obvious ending is Rogue goes to take the cure, leaves and goes to Alcatraz to ****ing man up and save friends and save the day. That would've brought her character full circle. She steels that kid's powers and then uses them on Magneto or Jean to help.

It also doesn't slap the character's whole background from the comics in the face.

Exactly.

There just isn't really any defence of that decision, no matter how relatable it was, or whether the cure was permanent or not. It was a slap in the face to everything the character and the X-Men represent.

The fact that it was spurred on, in part, by jealousy over losing a man to Kitty. Oh boy.

He can always turn off the comments section in Instagram. I just don't see how posting some pictures from the set or announcing the cast officially would be hurtful.

In terms of hyping this film, they are already slacking. Unlike Logan, this is a sequel to a bad film. So a radio silence marketing wouldn't help the film. Skipping Sdcc is a big sign. Like after all the Disney merger talk and the film being delayed, they should have at least went there to show something. Unless they are surprisingly showing up at D23.

Yeah, no matter who was responsible, there were several inexcusable story choices in that film.

same with all the young X-Men no giving a damm about Jean grey, or not even knowing she was back, lol. What a mess of a script/writers

they never asked about Jean, none talked to them about Jean, none of them asked about Scott..... they all live on the same school yet none gives a damm about Jean and Scott :funny:

How does my scenario not entail saving Wolverine?

Well if she saved Wolverine personally and more directly it would make a stronger full circle metaphor then the idea of turning up to save her friends. similar to how he did when he saved her from dying.

Thats why i said going smaller stands out more than going wider.

Only Mystique is allowed to save mutantkind as a whole. Please stop with this non-sense about Rogue saving more than one person. Who’s this Rogue person anyways? Has her actress even won an Oscar?
