Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Truly terrible.

Weaver as Emma Frost would have been fantastic. I never really think of her character as particularly young anyway.

Emma is one of a few (?) X-men characters who can be older than your Cyclopses and Jean Greys. Besides I was never particularly a fan of the Cyclops/Emma coupling so I'm fine with that.

Plus between Tahyna Tozzi/January Jones and Sigourney Weaver, it's a fairly choice to make.

it has started

Disney Reveals Plans For X-Men, Fantastic Four, Deadpool Properties and More

20th Century Fox gives Disney "opportunity" such as "Avatar, Marvel's X-Men, Fantastic Four, Deadpool, Kingsman, Planet of the Apes," and many other franchises, Iger said on the call. He also noted that the studio will explore possibilities for these properties with both big and small screen endeavors as Disney's streaming service becomes a major focus.

2019 will be a great year. Im ready for the very first news once Dark phoenix is said and done

Ian McKellen is proof of that. People didn’t want a “geriatric” Magneto, and he is one of the best things about the franchise.

McKellen was great, especially opposite Patrick Stewart. Fassbender's great too.

But they are not the 'be all and end all' and there's defintely room for another iteration.

I liked the world-weary European accent of the animated series and, 20 years ago, Rutger Hauer would have been a fantastic choice. It will be interesting to see who is cast for the eventual Disney/MCU version.

Agreed :)

Obvious isn't always best, and I can't see an argument that having a character following the thematic arc she's been on since X-MEN is bad storytelling being valid.

It's not faithful to the character as she eventually exists in the comics, but it's not "bad storytelling" on its own.

The movie makes it clear that she is not choosing to do it for some boy, but for herself.

Rogue gaining powers just to kick ass doesn't really do anything but check off a box comic book fans wanted to see. That's not the version of the character that was conceived for the franchise, and it's not what any of the filmmakers chose to use. Her conflict was on an entirely different level than those of the other X-Men...she couldn't touch people without hurting them. It wasn't just about powers, it was this concept that was the reason for her existence in the franchise.

That said...there were apparently originally plans for her to gain superstrength powers at one point, if not flight. That was scrapped early on along with the Colossus VS Juggernaut concept.

But we've heard rumblings over the years that there was a superpowered Rogue scene conceived and scrapped due to budgetary concerns. And let's face it, X3 was a fairly expensive movie as it was for the time and for the franchise.
Your defense is strange. How does choosing to do something for herself that's not even a permanent change make it the best conclusion?

Oof. There’s probably a wiki page he can quote somewhere stating 3-months of reshoots is a good thing.

3 months?
thats like filming a whole new movie, what a mess :funny:

Good luck, Kinberg.

* waits for Cktopl or whatever it's called to come in and start with the spin-doctoring....

:funny: :funny: you can count on that.

and if Fox has some people on here, they will do their work too :woot:

Okay... 3 months is severe. What have you done Simon? haha

Is it 3 months of continuous reshoots? Like week to week? Or is it a waiting on schedules to align and work while they can over the course of 3 months? 3 continuous months is a whole movie ffs.

Its probably discrete, if it were continuous I don't see why they wouldn't just New Mutants it.

In 3 months you can shoot a whole new film. Didn't Fant4stic shoot in about that time? Maybe they are shooting something new so that it isn't an X-Men film at all and has no reference to them.

Watch it turn into a JLaw romcom now.

Fox and its assistants will make sure you believe its just for schedule reasons and just 10 days of reshoots or so :funny:

whatever it takes to control word of mouth.
I can already see Kinberg talking in interviews around January/February acting like it was just some little tweaks here and there :funny::funny::funny:

Hoooly s***. They are probably reshooting the third act so it's an actual ending to the franchise.

Bring on the MCU's X-Men!

did you all forget this is exactly what the original THR article said? "major reshoots to improve the third act"

well, there u have it. the third act should be around 30-40 min. you know.... one third of the movie.
