Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Y’all do know it’s possible to be “on the fence,” right? You don’t have to be a mile away on either side. It’s insane how polarizing this film is and we haven’t even seen a trailer yet!

This is no time for reason.

Now, I've never been involved in making a film, and yes, I'm well aware that reshoots are common, but...THREE GODDAMN MONTHS?!?! HOLY ****!!!! Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's longer than alot of PRIMARY shoots correct?! That makes it seem like they're basically reshooting THE ENTIRE FILM!!! I wasn't expecting much with Kinsberg being given total control, but now this smells like a dumpster fire. Am I mistaken here?!
It's not three months of continuous shooting. The film would have been canceled at that point since there wouldn't be enough time for post to wrap work on an entirely re-shot 3 month film by February. That's nonsense. Reshoots are spread out based on the availability of the actors involved.

just a reminder: xmenfilms got direct word from a close friend who watched a screening, and he directly "hated" the movie.

Storm got screwed up once again. Cyclops didnt get the big role he deserved with this story. Nightcrawler and Quicksilver are mostly background. and lets not talk about the new characters, you can already guess.

So yeah, get excited yall! :funny:

One thing is for certain: There exist multiple separate cuts of the movie that have been shown to different test audiences at different months. The question is which one will be in the final version and how different was it from the others shown? There was more than one test screening.

If this is true, then I'm assuming Prof X and Magneto gets the spotlight again... and Jean of course. I still hope the movie is released in theatres as planned.

Don't forget Mystique's huge role since she's the leader of the X-Men now. :whatever:

While I agree that more than one cut exists, the goal is to find out which of the good is the best of the options. They don’t make a bad version of the movie to see if audiences pick that one by accident. A bad version only exists if the pieces that make it happen to be a bad as well.

But I have hope.

Judging by the official infos we have, it's seems that's the case: Charles, Eric, Raven and Jean will get the big roles.

To be honest, I don’t know why everyone thinks Raven will have a big role aside from her being Raven. No one has really mentioned her in any significant way in any interview and the only real thing about her in this movie is that she has some nice new makeup based off the price of promo relating to her, which was the one photo.

Because it’s heavily speculated that her [blackout]death at the hands of Jean fuels the main drama between the central characters.[/blackout] In which case, she would have a large effect on the plot, regardless of her screen time. But it’s still just speculation at this point.

I call that course correction, but understandable.

Side note, it’s great to see another regular from the old XMF these days. This movie is what got me on the forums all those years ago, because this movie was supposed to be what I was expecting all those years ago.

This will almost certainly be the case.

I'm not expecting anything from Storm, Nightcrawler and Quicksilver, aside from an action scene in which they are involved, and not much from Cyclops.

We have to remember Fassbender and J-Law were brought back in new contracts at great expense so they must factor heavily into the story.

The only evolution from the focus on the main characters of the First Class series will be putting Jean at the heart of the story. Not sure if she will be the lead character though, despite the film being called Dark Phoenix.

Because that's so Raven for that to happen.

yeah, I heard she will mostly have an action role, with one only line:

"Colossus"

Jennifer Lawrence would have probably have screentime as much James Marsden's screentime in X3. Though that doesn't mean that would mean more screentime to the actual X-Men.

Who else then?

Who else then?

Xavier, probably.

I just don't see them promoting Sophie Turner as the star or leading lady. But they might, I don't know for certain.

Casting Jessica Chastain and bringing back Fassbender and J-Law at a high price suggests Sophie is just a cog in the wheel, to be honest.

LOL.

Remember Storm's dazzling lines of dialogue in X-Men: Apocalypse:

"She's my hero"
"What are you doing?"
"Me too"

Such revealing moments of personality insight and motivation! Epic!

- It plays poorly when viewed as the gay/minority allegory mutation often embodies. Rogue's power is fairly useless and comes at great personal cost so the cure is practical. As a metaphor, it has ugly connotations.

Mutation should be allegorical for differences generally, including sexual orientation or racial minority but also religions and disability and while there shouldn't be shame with any of them there's also nothing wrong with choosing to change religions or use tools to mitigate or reverse a disability.

- Rogue's choice gets barely any screen time so we don't get to live in her struggle.
- The little time we get with Rogue centers on her jealousy over Bobby interacting with Kitty. She visibly reacts when Logan says he hopes she's not acting because of "some boy". Rogue says the cure was for her, but the film suggests she's lying.

Yeah, those were really bad aspects, Hollywood does way too many love triangles and here it made Bobby seem a very unsupportive, uninterested boyfriend or even bad person generally (and Kitty seem also at least a little jerkish as well).

Is there not an interview with Kinberg where he flatly admits that he’ll never do an X-men movie if the FC trio are not the leads?

I’ve heard it mentioned here a while back, probably during DOFP promo, but I’ve never seen the actual quote.

Did someone sexually assault her in Apocalypse? Did the "what are you doing" precede that line?

Apoc put his hands on her

Why didn't Mystique say that as well when he grabbed her by the neck?

This is a #metoo moment too
