Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

This franchise just has a stench on it. Looking forward to it ending so we can get MCU X-Men.
I hear ya brother. Thank god it's finally at a studio that's seemingly more concerned with quantity over quality, and has yet to match the likes of X2, DOFP, and Logan. I truly can't wait to see what they have in store.

they have in store "The X-Men show", not "the Charles Xavier and Magneto show", so for that alone most fans worldwide and general audience will leave the theatre happier and more excited than ever.

Quality over quantity when there are more bad X-movies than good ones? Seems like Fox was the one going for quantity over quality. I'm definitely excited for the Avengers vs X-Men movie down the line and whatever else Marvel has planned.

More bad than good? Including the Wolverine films people generally agree that there are 6 good X-Men films, and 3 that are bad (although I wouldn't include Apocalypse personally). The MCU hasn't reached the lows of the FoX-Men series, but I don't think they've exceeded its highs either.

I don't hate the MCU at all, as a matter of fact I'll be there opening day for Endgame. However, I haven't connected with those films on an emotional level like I did with DOFP or X2. If you have then more power to you.

I only really disliked two X-Men films.
Wolverine: Origins had it"s flaws, but, the only two films from this franchise that I despised were Last Stand and Apocalypse

As I said earlier today, I am really sorry that we did not get a two part version of DP or at least a two and a half hour movie.
If we had more time to tell the story, the finished product had the potential of being closer to the DP that we know.
It is a pity.
Still looking forward to the film, though.

I feel the same way.
I don’t think there is an MCU film I have outright HATED, but there are only a handful I absolutely love (Winter Soldier,Black Panther I love. I really really like Ragnarok, Avengers 1, Iron Man 1, Captain America:TFA, Civil War, Captain Marvel)

The MCU has certainly done better with showcasing all their characters, but they’ve also had the time to learn from franchises like X-Men and had a good idea mapped out.

The X-Men series has has severe lows, but I think theyve also had some very high highs. I think it’s just because the bad ones have stuck out so much, that’s what people tend to remember.

I definitely got that same emotional level with those films as you did, plus Logan.
Hasn’t really happened for me with the MCU. Only other film that has gotten to me like that has been Wonder Woman. (She’s my all time fave so that was a really special one for me)

I’m hoping they can get me like that with their X-Men series, but maybe they won’t. That’s fine.
They’ll definitely showcase all the characters better.

As much as I had my issues with this series I really would like to see them end on a decent high note. Anything better then Apocalypse I'll consider a success at this point. They have had some very strong ups and downs through the years.

Regardless of the mixed quality of the films, the X-Men characters have remained my favorite comic characters and the ones I always anticipate the most when announced for a film. I hope the future finally gives many of them the respect they deserve. Don't feel like waiting another 20 years to finally introduce Sinister, have Rogue fight in battle, Psylocke and Archangel to get screen time as actual X-Men etc

Meh. The ups and downs and not taking advantage of their IP's/characters left them at fault.

Just look at how clueless they were with Deadpool in XMOW or X3 as a whole. The studio side really screwed them over followed by the consistent focus on the same characters.

Too bad that when they started taking risks with Logan and Deadpool they were near the end.

This series got the credit when it deserved it imo...except for FC. Which had an uphill climb.

It certainly got off to an excellent start, pretty much hit or miss from there. Especially when you factor in the other Marvel properties they adapted.

My top X-men movies are Days of Future Past, Logan, X2, First Class, Deadpool. My top marvel movies are still: Winter Soldier, Black Panther, Civil War, The Avengers (2012), and Guardians of the Galaxy #1. All the other marvel films to me seem to be filler and formulaic. I hope Marvel take greater risks moving forward when the x-men are finally integrated into the MCU. I feel that's one of the things the X-franchise was starting to do right. Fox started to do it with Logan...and even Days of Future Past to some degree. Dark Phoenix is suppose to have a tonal shift as well. I hope that approach isn't lost. Similar to what this article states:
The X-Men movies continued to run through storylines for over a decade, but eventually 20th Century Fox was forced to innovate in order to compete with the rest of the superhero franchises out there. After a few critical flops, the X-Men made a quiet comeback by experimenting with the superhero genre. In 2016, the hyper-self-aware Deadpool not only broke the third wall but proved that R-rated superhero movies could smash records. Logan, which premiered the following year, stripped X-Men’s most popular character, Wolverine, of all his heroism in a small, gritty, emotional film.

But the punch-quip formula is Marvel Studios’ bread and butter. Sure, Marvel’s begun to test the bounds of the genre a bit with a talking raccoon and shocking cliffhangers. Yet those movies never stray too far from the magic formula that has led to Marvel’s overwhelming success. And it’s unclear whether Marvel Studios would even want to take a risk by making another movie like Logan.
Because I wasn't a big Captain America fan (didn't really read his comics), I didn't care for the first Captain America movie. When I was dragged to see Winter Soldier, I was really impressed because I didn't expect to watch a conspiracy thriller as oppose to the regular run-of-the-mill comic book movie. That's what I want them to continue doing with the x-men. For example, they could make a movie based solely on the Shi'ar without even bringing the x-men into it. Just show a story on what the Shi'ar empire does, like a sci-fi war film genre that focuses on the Imperium aspects of the empire. The savage land could easily fit into a fantasy/horror genre.

I just don't want them to start building up to another big event similar to Infinity War/Endgame. One of the problems with Marvel comics over time were these constant crossover events taking over all the individual stories. I feel after the whole buildup of films to Thanos....they've done it and now should try a different approach.

So I'm hearing the Dark Phoenix WonderCon panel is going to show parts of the space shuttle sequence and the New York battle.

I hope they don’t leak on line....although I would love to see it! Lol I heard we are getting a trailer a final trailer..

Add the "Mystique is not the leader of the X-Men" show and 99% of the audience will be ecstatic.

I disagree. It seems alright to me.
I'm no longer a fan, got off that train long ago. More power to you, though.

X1, X2, Logan and Deadpool for me. Anything else is watchable, but not enjoyable for me.

I used to love this franchise and before First Class came out, I was hoping for a return to form; much like the Singer films. With each film featuring the main cast of X-Men, my interest has just been constantly depleting. When it's not Wolverine or Deadpool, these movies feel stale to me. I'm just happy to be getting something truly interesting out of this team again, and can't wait for what happens in the MCU with them.

Quantity over quality and none of their films sucked as hard as X3, Origins, Apocalypse, Fant4stic, Elektra, Daredevil.... And none has been delayed like The New Mutants. Unless you liked those films, then Marvel Stud10s is really not the studio for you.

Thats because MCU have done great jobs in giving their library of characters individual focus. But, imo, they have not on the whole, been able to put these characters in well crafted, compelling stories with substance like Fox has with X2, FC, DOFP and Logan. I fear this is what will happen with MCU xmen, theyl give us a lot of diverse character focus that has been denied under Fox, but they will be in formulaic thin stories where the directors have tight guidelines. I want to have the whole package, diverse characters on screen but also in thematically strong stories without holding back.

Marvel Stud10s has been the most consistent studio out of all the studios that have adapted Marvel ips. When a studio released films like, Gotg and Dr. Strange (ips that weren't really known before) successful and earning 3/4 of a billion, you know they are doing something right. Then Black Panther/Captain Marvel earning a billion after 1 solo film? thats crazy. Even Ant-Man is pulling the same numbers (if not higher) as the Wolverine???

Don't even get me started again with the many characters wasted by foX in favor of Mystique, Wolverine, Xavier and Magneto. Even Deadpool has treated X-Men as gag/side entities. And there's the numerous continuity errors.

I'd rather see a handful of Captain Marvels than a handful of Apocalypse. And Marvel knows to deliver an action packed movie unlike the foXverse who always felt they slashed the budget of the film.

Different tastes and expectations I guess then. Dr Strange and Captain Marvel are decent 1 time watches but leave no lasting impression. Whilst obvioisly better than Fan4stic, Elektra, etc they ultimately feel unmemorable after a while and I dont want the same shallow treatment for xmen.

They are pulling in big numbers box office wise, but thats really insignificant from a quality movies perspective. If anything it encourages their films to stick close to a established formula rather than trying risky, dramatic, edgy stuff that Xmen content absolutely demands.

Or you aren't just invested to Dr. Strange and Capt. Marvel in the first place and the mcu movies were the introduction for you.

FoX has yet to give us a definitive X-Men movie in which they really focused on the team. Unless you really want to settle for less for characters like Storm, Cyclops, Rogue as supporting characters and characters like Psylocke, Angel and Jubilee are treated as an eXtra or a villain, then bad times ahead for you.

As much as I loved X1, X2 and X4, those were still more of a Wolverine and the X-Men show. And First Class is the Xavier/Erik bromance show which they carried over to Apocalypse and possibly Dark PhoeniX. Even though there's a clear lead in Avengers/Gotg, they have balanced sharing the screentime to the other characters a lot better than foX.

They were already moving forward to the New Mutants and X-Force yet Storm, Cyclops, Rogue have yet to still lead a X-Men team film and Gambit has yet to appear in the film with the X-Men. I seriously doubt Marvel Stud10s would wait 20 years for those to happen.
