No major death but there's an exchange between Charles and Xavier which does confirm Mystique's fate. There was a genuine reaction of surprise with that reveal in the audience so I suppose everybody doesn't know about it.

If you're going to criticize that then you might as well criticize the fact that none of the X-Men are wearing space suits. Which again is par for the course with the X-Men comics.

lets be honest, that final battle doesnt really sound epic, new or fresh.
it sounds dated. same small approach as the whole franchise since day 1. x-men vs Magneto, this time even less acolytes than X3. so more boring.

is anyone really excited with another sequel repeating the same beats? without a bigger team and new exciting x-men?

seriously, Avengers Endgame (4th avengers movie) has an epic roster.

Storm uses her powers in space in the story that leads to Jean becoming Phoenix. Storm is able to manipulate the solar wind - the energy flowing from the sun towards the Earth.

She also drew the energy of stars to kill a Brood embryo growing inside her.

Her powers aren’t so much manipulation of an atmosphere but redirecting natural energies.

In the context of the films and the shuttle rescue, what she does makes sense in controlling the shuttle’s air and its moisture content.

That isn’t the final battle though.

The final battle is when Chastain and the aliens beat the crap out of a united X-Men/Proto-Genoshans on the Mutant Containment train. Jean wakes up to, in turn, beat the crap out of the aliens, ending with her sacrificing herself to kill Chastain in space. It’s not at all like the X-Men vs Brotherhood/evil-crazy-Jean ending of TLS. It’s actually far more in line with the isolated, intimate blue moon ending of the original Dark Phoenix saga.
