Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

No, that's not it at all.The film is called Dark Phoenix, so there would be focus on Jean.

Storm is in dire need of more development and depth, we need to know the reasons she does what she does. We've not really had much insight into the character.

I'm not expect much in the way of development for Storm in Dark Phoenix but I do hope some of her dialogue makes it into the finished film.

So what's this about?

Shipp went on to express the need for the “strongest mutant” to be anything except “another white superhero.”

How is that merit for anything when Black Panther is Marvel's first black superhero?

Because the main point of the interview was that she felt/hoped that Storm would get her own film before being debuted in another since she hasn't had much to do in 19 years of X-Men films. It wasn't about who was Marvel's first black superhero.

Tons of characters haven't had much to do in 19 years of X-Men films.

Well we were talking about Storm here but ok...

I mean like join the club. I get Storm is a popular character, but her complaints don't make sense or give Storm more merit.

Mystique was made the team leader. It makes me wants to vomit.

So what's this about?

A general swipe at Hollywood I think.

Dark Phoenix isn’t really a superhero in this film. She goes straight to Dark mode, there is no good Phoenix, so it’s unlikely Shipp was referring to that.

We know they start the film with the X-Men as beloved superheroes, Jean is ultimately one of the good guys, and this is the only franchise dealing with mutants.

No, She was talking about GoT.

You can easily find it online

Please show me where she said she was cast in game of thrones because of her popularity and instagram followers. Who tf was following her in 2011? She was like 14 years old.

But she was cast in what, 2015? I think she was a bit more popular then.

I AM TALKING ABOUT GAME OF THRONES. She was not cast for that show in 2015

Oh boy. I was referring to when she was cast in Apocalypse and that she was more known/popular at that point. You said she wasn't popular in 2011 but what does that have to do with her being cast as Jean in 2015? She became more popular at that point, maybe not so much a household name but she was definitely more popular than the rest of the new young cast.

And correct me if I'm wrong @Ordet but you were saying that she was cast as Jean because of he popularity in GOT and not her IG following?

It’s true so it can be brought up as much as we want. We won’t pretend she isn’t in the movie for your convenience.

At least it seems agreed upon that she’ll suck, so now the argument shifted to she’s not in it much, she won’t make or break it.

And you’re right — there are bigger problems that can very well break this movie.

By all means keep beating the horse. But when someone sees new footage and the opening rescue mission scene and they instantly play the tired Mystique card, to me that is a good sign. Must not have been bad if they have to resort to hitting the easy JLAW target instead of other potential issues. At least that's how I read it.

Again you quoting me without reading the actual thread. So here's the exchange.

Let's not forget Sophie said that she got the role because she had more IG followers, there was a more qualified actress also in the running, it was between them, and Sophie got it because she was more popular.

Sophie was talking about Game of Thrones.

She was not talking about Game of Thrones. She was not popular in 2011.

Then here you two come in without reading and just quoting me.

My understanding was that she was cast as Jean in Apocalypse because of her IG followers, which was probably a result of her being in GoT.

My understanding is that Turner got the Jean Grey role over Saoirse Ronan, who is definitely more experienced and a more acclaimed actress, because she had more IG followers. That's shallow and stupid and totally in line with the thinking at Fox when it comes to this franchise.

It was kind of both indeed. IIRC Singer also admitted he had a bias for her because she was in GOT.

She wasn't anything special in Apocalypse and she looks wooden in this one so this seems like a miscast. To be fair the writing was also to blame in Apocalypse giving her nothing interesting to do.

The other choices -- Saoirse Ronan, Hailee Steinfeld, Elle Fanning, have demonstrated more talent imo.

But what's done is done.

Of the candidates, though, I think she looks the most like Famke. That’s not reason enough to cast her, but I think she’s a solid actress too. I would disagree that she looks wooden in DPh, though. One thing I was especially surprised about in the recent set of trailers was just how decent her acting was. That shot of her looking at Magneto when she’s crushing his helmet is fantastic. She’s doing a lot of acting with her face and I think there are times when she has major shifts in emotion that intentionally result in an almost blank expression, like when she’s floating outside her house and Peter’s coming at her.

Her facial structure oddly looks more like Famke in DP then it did in Apocalypse. perhaps its the hair and make up that helped with that.

Not that i think they cared about that. but coincidently she does abit.

Yeah I didn’t really like the casting choice for jean and cyclops in apocalypse I thought they were completely miscast. the only casting choices that I think were spot on for the younger X-men were shipp and kodie

She’s not a dead ringer (and the eye color’s definitely off,) but I think she looks as much like her as, say, Lawrence looks like Romijn or Fassbender looks like McKellen.

I don't see it. Agree to disagree!

You literally just said she looks “more” like Famke. So you are clearly not on the “middle balance” side.

I didn't say she looked exactly like her. if you wanted to say she looked 5% more like her thats still more like her. if you can't take any sort of resemblance no matter how small then thats still more then nothing
