Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

But Black Panther is a kiddy movie, the hero isn't really developed, unlike Storm, Beast and Angel in Xmen Apocalypse

Hoult was a very fine Hank in first class. But that character disappeared in DoFP and Apocalypse.

Hoult has what it takes, he just wasn't ever written how Beast should be written.

If i can say something about Black Panther real quick, its that the academy nomination was a salute to the movie more than anything. The fact that it got nominated for best picture makes zero sense. I dont mean this in a trollish way or as a hater because i think logistically it makes no sense. How can a movie thats not nominated for best screenplay, cinematography, editing, acting, or directing possibly be one of the best movies of the year. You can't be a good movie just based off of having really great costume design and score. If black panther doesnt excel at any part of essential film-making how can it possibly be nominated for best picture. If you look at past best pic nominees they always get nominated for at least one of those main categories but BP doesn't. The nomination unfortunately comes off as hollow and disengenous imo.

"You can't be a good movie just based off of having great costume design and score"? Who says that's the only good things it has? There just happened to be five contenders more liked for the other categories. Just like Black Panther happened to be one of the more liked movies for the Best Picture of the year. There are movies nominated for Best Picture that didn't even win other Oscars. The Academy actually voted for Black Panther to win in some categories. By your rationale I guess Logan wasn't good at anything else other than Screenplay, DOFP wasn't good at anything else other than VFX, etc. The Post got nominated for Best Picture only along with Meryl Streep for Best Actress. I guess that alone qualifies it for best movie of the year because that is a part that is "essential filmmaking".

What is truly disingenous is implying people nominated it because of some sort of agenda and not because they liked it. May I remind you it still is one of the better reviewed CBMs ever.

I mean when stuff like The Blind Side gets nominated for Best Picture... when stuff like Crash wins Best Picture... or Shakespeare in Love... it is kind of funny that people complain about Black Panther getting nominated, and whether it truly "deserves" to be in company of such classics.

But I should stop here before the posts get wiped for being off topic.

Black Panther was nominated due to his relevance for the black community, nor for only quality, that is fair.
Often Academy use the Best Picture Award for an important production effort, that could be something never seen (like the year the good at max Lord of Rings won against the amazing Eastwood's Mystic River) or could be something socially necessary (like Spotlight, that was very good, i very like It, but was not at the same league of Revenant)

Actually that's one of the few instances where I agree with what won, even though I do like Mystic River quite a bit.
I thought Mad Max was more deserving in 2016 but that's just me.

When put up against the other comic book films coming out this year where does Dark Phoenix fall in terms of anticipation? For me it's
1. Joker
2. Dark Phoenix
3. Avengers
I recently put Joker on top due to the trailer.

1. Dark Phoenix: Biased because I'm an x-men fan, but every trailer that's released has increased my anticipation.

2. Endgame: I'm looking forward to it but I'll be honest non of the trailers have altered my anticipation level (neither increased nor decreased from IW). It also doesn't help that most of my favourite characters were killed/dusted in IW. Though I'm excited for Nebula to be at the forefront.
But based on set photos, I do worry the film might rely heavily on nostalgia, over a new story.

3. New Mutants: I like the cast and the teaser. But the description of the second trailer shown ages ago at Brazil Comicon + the leaked animatic (assuming it accurate to the final product) really has me excited.

4. Far From Home: I'm not a Spider-Man fanatic but I enjoy his films. The trailer looked good.

5. Joker: I'm not a big DC fan (just haven't read many of the comics) The trailer looked interesting.

Ultimately I'm looking forward to them all.

As for Hellboy. While I'm sure this version is probably more accurate to the comics (I've only seen the Del Toro films which is adore) I don't like it. I think what makes its worse is that Del Toro was wanting to make a third one.

I have already seen both Captain Marvels. Its going to be a long time till I get eXcited for a X-Men film.

I don't hate mcu.

I have even the tickets (for me and my wife) to see Avengers' marathon (IW+Endgame) for the 23.

I hate the extremist faith of fan.
That kind of faith that bring people to think the Mystica in the X-Men group is totally unacceptable, but a totally betrayial in Spidey's (or Cap, or Thanos or etc..) inner essence it's ok 'cause it's in mcu.
Like It costumes and sides would be most important of inner motivations.

I very think that for the most part fox's X-Men catch the Claremont's spirit.
Yes, Singer&co choose to focus on Charles and Magneto, and they put in a corner some of the most important players. That's was a mistake for us fan, but not an actually mistake, cause it was an author's choice.
What Singer&co gave us was human characters with personal doubts and mistake to live with (Debating of charles and Magneto on the Planet in DoFP)
That is pure Claremont.
While in Mcu we have monolityc characters that were charaterized only by their current action (Peter in the movie has not his unique guilty conscience)

Said that i think that we all would have both good adaptation and good movie.
But if i have to choose, i always choose the latter.

But the bigger point is that we all would fight to get real better movies, while we all are fighting over silly fanatics debate.
What i Will want to hear it's not what Will happen next? But how beautiful and
communicative is the dop's work.
Not he's doing this and that, but why he is in that manner?
Not the fear of spoiler, but i read all the spoiler and that is not changing anything, cause the movie is beautiful to see and see and see.

Mediocre start to the year imo with Captain Marvel and Shazam both too generic and lightly weighted stories.

Looking forward to Endgame and Dark Phoenix only. Spiderman will be more of the same usual formulaic CBM. If New Mutants is coming out then that will defitinly be in the hype category. Joker looks meh tbh

I thought I was the only one that felt that way about Shazam since it's getting high praise.
