"You can't be a good movie just based off of having great costume design and score"? Who says that's the only good things it has? There just happened to be five contenders more liked for the other categories. Just like Black Panther happened to be one of the more liked movies for the Best Picture of the year. There are movies nominated for Best Picture that didn't even win other Oscars. The Academy actually voted for Black Panther to win in some categories. By your rationale I guess Logan wasn't good at anything else other than Screenplay, DOFP wasn't good at anything else other than VFX, etc. The Post got nominated for Best Picture only along with Meryl Streep for Best Actress. I guess that alone qualifies it for best movie of the year because that is a part that is "essential filmmaking".If i can say something about Black Panther real quick, its that the academy nomination was a salute to the movie more than anything. The fact that it got nominated for best picture makes zero sense. I dont mean this in a trollish way or as a hater because i think logistically it makes no sense. How can a movie thats not nominated for best screenplay, cinematography, editing, acting, or directing possibly be one of the best movies of the year. You can't be a good movie just based off of having really great costume design and score. If black panther doesnt excel at any part of essential film-making how can it possibly be nominated for best picture. If you look at past best pic nominees they always get nominated for at least one of those main categories but BP doesn't. The nomination unfortunately comes off as hollow and disengenous imo.
I love the MCU and I love the FoX-Men (for the most part.) Why does it seem like that’s an impossibility for anyone else?
Actually that's one of the few instances where I agree with what won, even though I do like Mystic River quite a bit.Black Panther was nominated due to his relevance for the black community, nor for only quality, that is fair.
Often Academy use the Best Picture Award for an important production effort, that could be something never seen (like the year the good at max Lord of Rings won against the amazing Eastwood's Mystic River) or could be something socially necessary (like Spotlight, that was very good, i very like It, but was not at the same league of Revenant)

Fox X-Men are dead.
And the sky is (sometimes) blue. Yes, the franchise ends after Dark Phoenix and, I guess, The New Mutants, but that doesn’t mean the series is wiped from existence.
Yes it kinda does.
Oh no! So, all my blu-rays are just going to disappear?!?
When put up against the other comic book films coming out this year where does Dark Phoenix fall in terms of anticipation? For me it's
1. Joker
2. Dark Phoenix
3. Avengers
I recently put Joker on top due to the trailer.

Yup, off screen!Well, they did all die according to Logan.

I thought I was the only one that felt that way about Shazam since it's getting high praise.Mediocre start to the year imo with Captain Marvel and Shazam both too generic and lightly weighted stories.
Looking forward to Endgame and Dark Phoenix only. Spiderman will be more of the same usual formulaic CBM. If New Mutants is coming out then that will defitinly be in the hype category. Joker looks meh tbh
