Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

The guy wrote X-men The Last Stand, Fant4stic and Apocalypse among others. Vitriolic hate? Are we making fun of his looks? Are we making fun of his family? We are pointing out his subpar work.

And considering he made upwards of $8Mil for Apocalypse's screenplay, do you really feel bad for the guy? Really?

I honestly am not really feeling the very simple dialogue ..that army guy in the Genosha clip can’t act worth a crap...but other then that I don’t have much to gripe about..hopefully all the clips have been heavily edited..ship looks good as storm by the way!! I can’t tell she is channeling Michael Jackson-esque dance moves!!!

Still bothers me that whey they are in their X uniforms they are not wearing gloves!!!!

He also co-wrote "Sherlock Holmes" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past," and produced movies such as "Elysium," "The Martian," "Deadpool" and "Logan."

Not saying he's a great screenwriter, but people online go over the top with the hate. The clips so far look good, he might actually surprise as director. If the film sucks, I'm going to be the first one saying he shouldn't direct.

Having Taylor Swift do a early 9O-esq song for the movie would of great!! Or even Jonas bros doing A song would of been good promo for the movie..not sure as to why nobody thought of thAt

What? The Jonas Bros.? Are you kidding me?
Umm Sophie turner is married to one of them and they have a huge fan base!!! It’s marketing and business never mind your personal taste in said boy band

Yeah, let's not have a boyband market a film such as this, if not in an ironic way ( I could see Deadpool having fun with that). Please.

Not a reshoot.

@icekid: Could you elaborate on the way the reshoots went down? Is this a "The Predator" kind of situation where the studio took the film apart, erased important plot points and characters and tried to (unsuccessfully, Shane Black's originally filmed script was teared to shreds with the reshoots) jigsaw something completely different into it? Or ar we on the 'tamer' side of reshoots, where it was simply decided to add some stuff and change the showdown, or whatever?

Totally agree

From my understanding reshoots mostly change the final battle, which seems to be far more focused on Jean and her relationship with the force and Force in general (the original cut makes it just sound like a device to make Jena unstable and weapon for Chastain).
That also seems to have caused them to go back and add stuff into act one and two with more emphasis on the Force;'I believe the Chastain illusion scene is one.

Love this shot

Scrapped everything after the New York confrontation and shot an entirely new 3rd act, added a few pickups throughout the 1st and 2nd acts to weave a new theme, the bond of their family.

The force and Jean are still an unstable weapon of sorts and the hologram scene was in the original cut, but it was always flexible in content until they landed the right flow and story context for the entirety of the movie.

I was expecting a really bad movie, but if this ends up being a good one I'm all for it.

So they basically retooled the third act/showdown and shot some additional scenes for it to make more sense throughout the film? Doesn't sound too chaotic or troublesome to me, IF they managed to pull it off seamlessly and the new third act works.

Literally everything they shot for the third act, 30+ minutes of footage was tossed. Locations changed, scenes done away with entirely, set pieces gone, all of it, characters added, the whole shebang. Gone and replaced with something different in every single way.

I think maybe one exchange in a different location was kept and imputed into the middle of the new third act. That’s the only thing saved.

And it works.

Seeing Kinberg talking on stage at the London fan event, guy seems so gentle natured and friendly. Doesnt deserve the vitriolic hate he gets lol
Simon is a great guy no one is giving him any anger or hate for who he is as a person. That’s never been a discussion here. People aren’t happy with his writing. It hasn’t been the best to be fair however yes as a producer he has done some good stuff and we will see as a director. So far he’s doing ok in that field and if he focuses on directing and producing he could be fine. I think he should just stay away from writing scripts tbh.

The thing I like in this shot is that it gives us a sign of Cyc actually being concerned for her. It’s only a slight nod to their relationship but because he doesn’t seem worried about the flight, it shows us that he is stepping into that leadership role.. I’ve taken a lot from a very short gif

Good to hear. Especially since the film looks actually pretty good and well made. Simon Kinberg seems to have a firm grasp as director and an interesting, if subtle (which I like, BTW), visual style. It would be a pity to find out otherwise.

I'm not sure what to make of the dialogue just yet, but the production values definitely appear to be quite solid for the most part.
