Just gonna leave this here:

Context is important so I'm not going to come down too harshly on a movie I haven't seen yet, but.... yeah.

Further evidence that Mystique just seems to do and say whatever is necessary to move the conflict forward, past characterization be damned.

Yea Charles why are you teaching kids Math and Home Ec? You should be teaching them how to fight. They're not kids anymore. They're "X-men."

10 years later.

Yea Charles why are you putting their lives in danger? They're not even X-men, they're "X-women." On second thought, they're just kids. They're "X-girls."
To be fair, learning to defend themselves is not the same as risking your life as a superhero.
Mystique and Beast, the two people b****ing to Xavier that he's putting the kids' lives in danger, brought those same kids TEN YEARS AGO, WHEN THEY WERE TEN YEARS YOUNGER to Egypt to fight an ancient mutant. You might say they were risking their lives as superheroes...

You think its a good idea to leave them at Weapon X? The post credit scene showed that more goons would show up.

Besides, that’s a case of defending themselves, not the humans. Magneto was wrecking the world and Apocalypse was going to mind control everyone. Moria knew how powerful Apocalypse was and Beast knew what Jean was capable of.

LOL seriously? God.

X2 left Rogue, Bobby and Pyro in the X-jet. That's an option. As an X-men fan I, of course, don't want to be treated as kids. Because they are not.

Don't treat them as kids when TEN FRIGGIN YEARS PRIOR you so willingly brought them to the fray and told them to fight.

Xavier forces Jean against her will to teleport over to the shuttle and it would have killed her if not for the Force.

She angry because Xavier is forcing them (most likley Jean) into extreme deadly situations all to make a point of the value mutants to maintain peace.

Apocalypse was a situation were the world was at risk. They stand back and they die; humans and mutants.

The score samples are good, but i will miss the characters themes and the main saga theme. I love themes.. Score sounds a bit generic but it is just samples.
I wish Hans mixes new stuff with a bit of old themes, like X-men theme, Charles and Magneto themes
I think we wont have that iconic entrance ending with cerebros door..

And just let Apocalypse mind control the whole world. Sounds like a good idea./s

So just pick and choose who you want to save? Okay.
Xavier forces Jean against her will to teleport over to the shuttle and it would have killed her if not for the Force.
And you actually think that's something FC/DOFP/Apocalypse Xavier would've done?

Kinberg has to show Xavier on his extremes so he can see the error of his ways by the end of the movie. That's what Kinberg calls a "character arc."

I’m a little fan of funny pet movies and that pets 2 looks kinda tempting. You know what universal is missing? A shrek live action adaptation / reboot.

Universal also so dark it could try making live action fairytale story verging on horror, like a little mermaid film where the mermaid actually dies at the end and the witch cuts her tongue out rather than steal a glowing light from her throat. Something dark, thinking les mis, phantom of the opera... or even shrek which is a definite play on The Disney fairytale.

I visualize anya Taylor hoy as the mermaid for some reason. And I would love to see a gory ugly dark version of Harry Potter. Not sure if that Is theirs. Something real, I guess. Definitely keep a higher reading level too. Disney has been underestimating younger audiences quite a bit

In Apoclaypse he tells her to embrace her power, and is aware of the extent of her power (capable of of destroying being as powerful as Apocalypse).
He fully believes Jean can do it; he just didn't anticipate that what they assume is a "solar flare" is a ancient sentient cosmic entity that specifically targets Jean.

And it is made perfectly clear Xavier has an ego now because the X-men have likley been on many successful missions (note you likley would complain if non of the characters progressed between films).
Considering this team defeated Apocalypse, the shuttle mission is probably veiwed as relatively simple rescues mission.

Situation is different. In Apocalypse, Mistique finds out that humans still discriminate against mutants and are hostile towards them wheras Xavier is under the delusion that things are peaceful now. Thats why Mistique wants to persuade Xavier to teach the X kids to fight in the 80s because veiled bigotry exists.

But in the 90s the Xmen are national heroes and fully accepted so Mistique wants them to set a good example and not do anything risky to harm their public image.

Considering he was forcing Mystique to hide who she was and was keeping Moria’s memories gone...
The same Xavier who forced Mystique to hide and was weary of the CIA learning about his kind via Moira, is now the one that's "Mutant and Proud" and is ready to share his gifts to the world, and embracing the superheroics.

The same Mystique who forced Xavier to teach his students to fight and was herself rescuing mutants between FC and DOFP and between DOFP and Apocalypse, is now weary of putting the kids' lives in danger and doesn't want them to use their powers for good.

"Arc."

Yup you got me there.

It's not about having an arc just for the sake of saying a character changed. It's about having a believable one.

In the Dark Phoenix clip she explicitly states that she doesn’t want them risking their lives for humans.

Not sure why people read the scene in Apocalypse as “we must protect the humans”.

It's a believable arc.

Mutants have been accepted by the world.
The X-men are national heroes.
Xavier is the face of the X-men (and I assume mutant kind) on the world stage.
He believes that the peace they currently have can only be maintained if they X-men are successful in every mission.
Being the figure head and being constantly praised for helping bring about human-mutant peace is going to cause his ego to grow.

James Mcavoy MAKES it believable, to me. Both he and Jennifer seem to be putting in the effort, however clunky the dialogue is. Seeing James play an arrogant Professor is something I didn’t think I needed.... turns out I DO lol

Some pretty rough social media reactions coming in on twitter..

(and by rough I mean I haven't seen a positive one)
