Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Yeah, Disney shouldn't have released this at all, but they threw fans a bone instead. They're not going to put out the Kinberg cut now on top of that.
The only silver lining about Dark Phoenix being released is that it tanking so hard finally eliminates any possibility of Kinberg ever being involved with any future iteration of FF and the X-Men again and exposes him as the talentless hack that most of us knew him to be.

But staunch defenders of his still think that the only reason it's tanking is because we aren't getting the Kinberg Cut. If we had that, then it would get great reviews and be a success! :o

there isnt a biggest blindness than not wanting to see the real world around you

I’m quite curious about what’s going to happen with New Mutants after DP crashed and burned. Will Disney really spend money on reshoots after this debacle? I mean I guess it depends how much work needs to be done on New Mutants. If the film requires significant Justice League/Solo style reshoots that greatly balloons up the budget then Disney would be nuts not to shelve or at least dump it at Hulu. And if I’m not mistaken isn’t Josh Boone not going to be available for the reshoots because he has other commitments? So who does the reshoots for New Mutants? Kinberg? lol.

the only reason I see Disney doing reshoots is if the contracts of everyone involved obligate the studio to release it in theatres, for legal issues (investors, cast and the like).

If thats the case, best option for Disney would be just releasing current version without spending any more money. The boxoffice wont be bigger than Dark Phoenix or X1, so its pretty pointless to make big reshoots for it (and I highly doubt Boone first cut is that bad, I highly highly doubt it)

It's like the Emperor's New Clothes.

I don't think they should bother doing any reshoots. If they really want to release it into theatres, release it in the state it is in, even if it is unfinished and doesn't make any sense. If it's going to bomb anyway, then why bother throwing good money after bad just so that it bombs by perhaps a couple of million less than it would have otherwise. It won't make any difference to the end result.

It's like if you are in an exam and failing right from the start. Do you bother to sit until the end only to get perhaps a 25% mark instead of a 20% mark? You've still fallen short of the pass mark either way. So why waste more time and effort?

I guess I am in the minority, but I would actually be interested in the release of a full director's cut of this movie.

Not enough to sign a petition or anything, but I would buy it just to see what it was supposed to look like.

When you say you want a full director's cut, do you mean that if Kinberg released his version but then it still sucked, but it turned out he had even more footage, you'd want the Extra Kinberg Cut?

I am almost always a little interested in the novelty of a director's original vision as opposed to what gets studio approved.

If people get sick of Jennifer Lawrence, we can always have Ariana Grande step in for her for a while:

I kinda see the influence. From the more somber, grounded tone and the music.
Obviously he is not even in the same league as Nolan, but I can see that he was influenced by him.

(I also read somewhere that there was another important person part of production that frequently works with Nolan)

if only the rest of the world would buy it too.....
but thats why Disney wont allow it lol. They wouldnt want to spend money on a Dvd for 100 fans around the world lol

Save you're tears Jlaw, you are the biggest reason Apocalypse and dark phoenix have failed

I can excuse JLaw's desinsterested acting, but her biggest mistake in this franchise was convincing Kinberg to direct. :p

Can we talk about Chastain's character still being addressed as Agent Smith via twitter emojis? Did they settle on her name the week of release?
For all the X-Men fans out there: #DarkPhoenix #Cyclops #Mystique #ProfessorX #Magneto #Quicksilver #XMenStorm #XmenBeast #Nightcrawler #XmenSmith

I strongly suspect that Lawrence insisted on Kinberg directing to sabotage the franchise. She really hated that blue makeup.

As much as I...don't like JLaw and Kinberg, I don't think that's fair to say.

I just think these people are all friends and obviously they get along with each other (not to even mention the Singer situation) so for all the talk of feminism and the "let's raise each other up" and "let's award deserving female directors with high profile gigs" at the end of the day they liked working with this awkward, but ultimately harmless guy and probably wanted to prove to themselves that Singer was what was wrong with Apocalypse. Yea to the fans that follow these movies, we know that Simon lies thru his teeth. But to these actors they probably see that as a necessary evil in working on this industry. You have to be able to sell a turd.

See also Chastain's 355.

It's a long-winded way of saying nepotism.

Agreed. We’ve seen and heard many occasions as how Brian was not good on sets. I never really got much from Jen/James/Michael that they liked working with Brian compared to Simon who they all loved. Simon at least seems like a genuine guy who the whole cast enjoyed working with. It’s the lesser of two evils. And tbh Singer shouldn’t be around anyone.

It's why Halle enjoyed working on X3. She trashed X2 then, as she had a horrible time in Vancouver on X2. This was a decade before the "Me Too" Movement so Ratner might not have been at his best behaviour then (ask Ellen Page) and I can see him being inappropriate to Berry, but she does seem like one of the guys, probably tolerated him then plus he gave her a substantial role.

Of course *ALL* the actors on that movie has since soured on that production and on Ratner, and if you listen to Berry at SDCC in the summer of 2013, she seems genuinely grateful Bryan came back for DOFP.

It's all "what have you done for me lately."

To be fair one of the two is (allegedly) actually truly and completely evil, the other is a nice guy who’s just bad at writing and directing.

If Kinberg was inspired by Nolan he should've put more humor in the movie. Every quarter hour in a Nolan Bat movie is more engaging and fun than this bomb.

He’s never seen a Nolan movie, he’s never read an X-Men comic, we should all just be honest, shouldn’t we Simon?

As if he needed convincing. He was probably itching to direct a film.
