Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

My guess is that Chastain is indeed Lilandra or Deathbird, and probably working for the Skrulls against her will (probably the Skrulls have Shi'ar population held as hostage, etc).

If Daniel Cudmore was indeed cast as Gladiator (or someone from the Imperial Guard) makes sense to believe the Shi'ar will be part of the film as well.

Liked the trailer, I am hoping to end the fox X-Men on good note.
To me it looks, Jean was born with uncontrollable powers and accidentally cause the accident which killed her parents. Charles suppressed her memories of the accident but not her powers. In space Jean encounters that cosmic entity and her mental blocks get lifted. She remembered the traumatic experience and feels betrayed by Professor. X-Men tried to reason with her but with Charles betrayal, cosmic entity and her growing powers she lost control.Magneto initially tried to help her but after finding out that she killed Mystique and seeing her out of control powers, decided to stop/kill her himself (hence the dialogue of seeing evil in trailer). Chastain's character wants to use Jean's power (or more exactly the entity in her) and she gains Jean's trust and tried to perform the ritual to separate Phoenix from Jean and entering it into herself and one of her companions (Hellfire Club angle. For a moment Chastain's character take Phoenix's control and tried to kill Jean "per the re-shoot photos) but the plan backfired obviously and Jean gained control of Phoenix and wiped the aliens. In the end Jean moves out in universe (as Singer originally envisioned for X4).

Flashback when he welcomed Jean into the X-Mansion (probably 70's).
Thanks. I just noticed that and was seconds away from deleting my prior post. What can I say? It's late. ha ha

I felt DOFP teaser vibes, but with a much more sinister tone. Both teasers saved their money shots and decided to end on character moments instead. DOFP ended with hope while Dark Phoenix ended with menace.

Couldn't make heads or tails of this trailer, just blah. Seemed like a fandmade trailer from previous X-Men movies. As low as my excitement was for this, it got even lower.

Also putting it out there... this is the best the Characters have ever looked in this franchise (other than maybe x2 because I hold such a flame for that film)

So there’s a fair amount that takes place in space, and the inciting incident that starts to turn Jean, let’s say, dark and fill her with this power that she can’t control happens in space. And then there are forces from space that come to Earth because of that."

Se we might get more scenes in space other than the rescue mission?

I think that is possible at this point with what was hinted of Chastain's character.

Storm just looks sad and Magneto Hasn't aged since the 60s... Okay. And Mystique and Beast in human form again?

No one can move their hand from their leg up to an arm rest as dramatically as James Mcavoy. God bless him. You guys know what I'm talking about.

My brief thoughts on the trailer, as shared earlier on another forum:

I like how it seemingly puts the characters front and center. That's always been the strength of the emotional and meta-tinged X-Men franchise, notably First Class and the excellent DoFP. X-Men Apocalypse somehow lost sight of that. So, here's hoping Phoenix is a return to form. The trailer's not perfect (something about the cinematography, among other things, is off), but it's promising.

They have enough time for post prod by now. Anyway, it lacks money shots like as if we haven't seen these characters before Xcept for 3.

Yeah this was definitely an acting trailer. Special effects will come later.

I'm still not over how much the editing for that trailer is leaving me wanting to see more. Cutting away before Jean's big explosion to that mood setting shot of her face is perfect.

Not even an optic blast or something from Storm, remind me again that these are mutants. Also we have seen the phoeniX before no need to hold back. Come Feb 14 and theyd regret holding back with the 1st trailerwhen it underperforms.
