Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

With the announcement of Mowgli going to. Netflix I wouldn’t mind Dark Phoenix going the same route

You really don't see the difference between that and a film that has actually been filmed?

It'll be February 13th and some of yall will still believe it'll be cancelled. Lol
And what will be the excuse when it's November and we still don't have a trailer or any form of promotional material? Kinberg is not the guy I would trust on a situation like this. Especially with what he's said about the F4 in the past and his tone deaf "I never want to stop making X-Men movies" last week. This guy is purposefully being oblivious. If something is going on with Dark Phoenix, he's the last person who's going to tell us.

Precisely, if they were planning to release DP on time and in theaters they would have at least had a presence at comic con, let alone footage. There will be an announcement soon that it's getting delayed for "re-shoots" and then announced as original content for Disney streaming soon after. Same for New Mutants.

It will be beautiful. if DP gets delayed another 6 months then that will give Disney time to figure out what they want to do with it which will hopefully dump it on the streaming service.

Save Phoenix for a potential MCU adaptation down the line and leave audiences refreshed so by the time MCU X-Men comes out in 2021-2022, Apocalypse will have been the last time the GA saw the X-Men.

No need to sell it to Netflix, Disney has it's own streaming service coming out that needs original content, perfect fit.

YouTube please! And for free! Though it would probably be seen by more people than in Netflix or Hulu since it would be free viewing.

and with voices of talent such as Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett and Benedict Cumberbatch. Actors much much bigger than sophie, tye, alexandra and kodi, hell, even mcavoy.
The excuses are running out :hmm

Fiege himself could say Dark Phoenix was still happening in theaters and some still would make delusional comments about how it's all a carefully calculated ruse. SMH

But I thought big budget films couldn't/wouldn't be dumped to a streaming service? :oldrazz: If this can happen to Mowgli, it can happen to Dark Phoenix

I always thought that movie was going to flop because the Disney version was so popular.

One advantage of DP not being in theaters would be avoiding that domestic opening weekend #. Apocalypse was 60m.. how much was FC opening weekend domestic?

I think it's certain now that nobody can say it's impossible for the movie to debut on a streaming service.

I think at this point, if these films do hit theaters I could get over the negative stuff and watch it for the cast. You've got Game of Thrones actors, Jessica Chastain, Tye Sheridan, and a load of other great young talents who I think deserve the exposure. And for the record, I really wanted to see Anya Taylor-Joy portray Magik over he span of several films until we got the Magik we see alongside Cyclops and Emma Frost in the movies nowadays. I guess we'll see what happens.

I would not get Netflix though, sorry.

So which is it, are they going to release it on some type of streaming service or scrap it completely? I thought they wouldn't want the release of this movie to confuse audiences or even taint what they have planned for the X-Men. If they have the authority on whether or not this movie sees the light of day, and the money to deal with any financial repercussions that might come with scrapping it, why would they release it at all?

The recent XMen films have already been confusing some audiences. I know there are some who think they are already part of the MCU and have been wondering why they haven't interacted with the other characters yet. I'm pretty sure they will release it in some way or another. Probably streaming would be the likeliest way.

I don't see it being completely cancelled, but smart money is definitely on a streaming release. Disney is no way gonna risk a future multi-billion dollar MCU X-verse for a re-shoot mired movie by a wannabe director responsible for the worst CBM of the decade in F4.

Mowgli wasn't dumped, genius, its distribution rights were bought from WB by Netflix. Fox's license with the Donners means they have the distribution rights, that's the primary component of their Marvel deal. They can't sell the rights to Netflix while in the process of selling themselves to Disney.

If they are confused either way why does it matter for them to wide release the film so they can get the most out of it?

Let's not forget Bright which cost $90 million. Films debuting in a streaming site is nothing new. Though Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants would be the first two Marvel live action adaptations to debut in a streaming site. Get that recognition! :o also Dark Phoenix/The New Mutants don't need a Netflix deal. YouTube and Hulu are there.

$55m.

I can see Dark Phoenix hitting somewhere in the 40s.

Fc- 55
A- 65
Dp- 45 (if it gets a wide theatrical release)

It may be seen as the best option financially. Apocalypse was a critical and BO disappointment, so the follow up was likely to struggle regardless of whether or not it was helmed by newbie director Simon "Fant4stic" Kinberg. Saving $100M or so in marketing costs would be enticing for the Mouse at a time when they are looking for streaming content for Hulu and Disneyflix.

Another point is that HBO's pay window deal with Fox runs through 2022. Does a Direct to Streaming release keep Dark Phoenix off of HBO? If so it would be another incentive, along with easing the transition of the mutants into the MCU, for Disney to keep it out of theaters.

Most likely a streaming service release.

If there are already a section of the audience confused on how the X-men are not part of the mcu then it would save further brand confusion to debut the last two movies on a streaming service so there's less confusion.

Meh as an X-Men fan I will support everything X-Men related. Do I look forward to seeing the X-Men in the MCU? Yes I do but I won't sit here and pray for an X-Men movie to be a disaster and throw it away. MCU will reboot the X-Men anyway so what's the problem with this movie coming to the theaters? I'm pretty sure people will get excited with the MCU X-Men even if Dark Phoenix comes out next year (similar to Spider-Man).

If you don't support this movie you can choose to ignore it. Don't need to convene a meeting here and pray for it to fail.
