Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Despite ~personal opinions~, there are reports from The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline saying that both Disney Execs and Kevin Feige are eager to reboot Wolverine and get their hands on the X-Men.

I don't think the MCU X-Men movie is happening before 2022, but as soon as they get their hands on, I'm sure they'll do everything they can to introduce those characters in the MCU. The same way they quickly added Peter in Civil War and his solo movie in the slot.

the MCU X-Men are happening when and where Feige wants them regardless of Dark Phoenix.

So, what are everyone’s thoughts on the costumes? I like them, but I think they really messed up with showing their individual costumes at the end of Apocalypse. I would have preferred them to have these costumes at the end of apocalypse and then get their individual looks in Dark Phoenix.

I must say though, I actually still prefer the black leather looks in the original series. I know that’s an unpopular opinion, but I have a soft spot for them. And I like that they still had some individuality, unlike these new ones.

I like the sports bra outfits better than the OT black leather suits and the laser tag and final cosplay costumes in Apocalypse. The First Class flight suits are still my favorites.

Negasonic Teenage Warhead has the best costumes, IMO. In both DP 1 and 2.

But yeah, in the X-Men franchise, for the team, the FC one is also my favorite.

I didn't consider NTW, but you are correct. Ms. Warhead has looked awfully sharp in the Deadpool movies.

For such a hardly used character in the comics, yeah. :)

And she was in name only.
idk, i was kind of struggling to stay excited and these news ruined even that.
by summer next year, disney-fox deal will be finalized and disney play could be launched. and if kevin feige really has x-men in his sandbox by then, i think he will insist this gets dumped to streaming. short term loss, long term gain and all that :/
I think it would be shelved. Disney wants to reboot the mutants with the public not seeing both Dark PhoeniX and The New Mutants in full form. Also I don't see them using those two to attract people to subscribe to Disney Play.

Shelved. Ignored. Rebooted.

Yah Negasonic looks great. She looks like an X-Woman. The Dark Phoenix suits look really cheap in comparison.

I love the new suits. Keeping fingers crossed that thr jacket will be available for purchase at some point.

What it looks like Dark Phoenix plays on (hope it plays on) is that even when you have the opportunity to change the past, history can still repeat itself. Charles had seen the future thanks to the events of DOFP and he still ends up doing the same thing with Jean, it just ends up happening a little earlier. I think it would be interesting in her new found powers, Jean see's for herself what happened in that alternate timeline which really sends her on a bender.

It's been an argument amongst some turning Charles into a villain and Eric into a hero but good people make mistakes. Charles has made mistakes and it seems they are playing with that in this take on the Phoenix story. As long as it is written well and executed well, it should be a good x-film, should be I say, should be...

Apocalypse and Dark PhoeniX = retreading things

I do wonder if the Disney merger wasn't happening, would the sequel jump 9 to 10 years later or would they just keep them in the 90s? Because this is supposed to be like a decade away from the ot timeline and 29 years before dofp future ending. And I'm assuming Rogue, Bobby, Peter and Kitty are already students by early 2000s nt. And what about the Wolverine?

They really limited themselves by ssetting these films up in the past again. I'm just relieved that the cast that started this aren't headlining a throwaway film that might not even hit the theaters.

Why bother spending anymore money on this film now doing reshoots?

It's like studying for an exam you have no hope of passing because you intrinsically don't understand the subject and don't care for it. Would you spend the night before cramming things in to give yourself a 20% chance of passing instead of 10%, if the pass mark is say 70%? You'd be wasting your time.

It's pouring good money after bad. Just release it on streaming or don't release it even at all.

Or if Fox think it will do well in China, then just release it there under a different title, and with a What's Up Tiger Lily?-style dubbing.

The reshoots were probably an incentive to the cast/crew.

I also don't know what benefit would Disney Play get from streaming Dark PhoeniX. Like if they are already trying to bury it with the delays, ultimately shelving it is the logical nXt step. As Iger have said, ther can't be two Marvels. The earlier people forget FoxVerse, the sooner they could introduce the mutants in the mcu.

For me a rough equivalent, in the absence of directly comparative examples, would be having MCU films totally dominated by just one main Avenger say Thor, and then Nick Fury, Loki and Maria Hill, with the rest of the team being an afterthought even after many, many films. Prof X, Magneto, Mystique and Wolverine have had great coverage (of who only one is a traditional X-Man), and it's now time that all the other great X-Men got their shot. And this will be automatically great for major female superheroes if they get it right due to how strong the X-Men's female lineup is.

Edit: that was a really old post trying to reply to an old quote but it's not working so can ignore.

I wouldn't mind Storm, Jean , Rogue and Psylocke as the new big four.

It will be Multiple Man as the new big four.

I don't think the Mouse has any particular incentive to bury Dark Phoenix. If would be one thing if Writer/Director/Producer Simon Kinberg were introducing new characters that were conflicting with Feige 's plans for the MCU, like the Skrulls. Or if it were launching a new series, like New Mutants. But many of the key characters in this series have been kicking around since 2011, and this film shouldn't prevent, for example, a new Ororo popping into the Black Panther sequel. Feige proved with Spidey that he can pull off a quick reboot, so I think the Mouse will give the Fox Men finale it's time in the theaters and move on from there.
