Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

On that note, I really like X1. I think everyone could have worked wonderfully in their roles and the team had chemistry. Only StormBerry was kinda flat.

I don't miss Marsden, but I certainly wish he had a chance to do more with Cyclops. Same with Page and Paquin.
That's how I feel about it. I don't really want anyone back as I'd rather the long term future was set up now, but those guys all deserved more time and better material.

I really wish we at least got some more future scenes in DOFP. I too miss the old cast and wish we got one more film with them, but alas...
1 more film with the old cast would have been the perfect amount and perfect way to end it IMO, even though I really loved DofP. I also wanted a bit more time with the future guys so they would feel more a part of the film than a set piece. They had a good mix of powers too!

Yeah, I felt that they didn’t really have a true ending. In regards to DOFP, I think the scenes were perfect, but I felt it should have been more equal or at least, they should have maybe released a small little ‘side film’ on the DVD with just the future story.
But, it’s too late now.

I don't. Particularly Marsden. What did he ever do as Cyclops other than act like a jerk to people? Nothing. Cyclops had no character other than 1 scene at Xavier's bedside in the 4 movies we saw Marsden in the role (granted, DoFP was a cameo).

I miss Marsden the most, pretty much for this reason. He was wasted, and as one of the younger OT cast members he could still be kicking ass now nearly 20 years after his debut. Solid actor too, always happy to see him in something.

Paquin and Marsden mann.. I remember being so excited Paquin was coming back for DOFP, and not only did they cut her out, but they cut a large part of what made the film a true send off to the original cast. Rogue, Kitty, and Cyclop's love triangle, Prof X and Magneto going on one last mission together to save the world, Iceman dying for the girl he fell in love with as teenager, again to save the world...Seeing the Rogue Cut and realizing the only thing in it that shouldn't have been in the theatrical cut was Mystique's scenes...it still makes me angry and is the one thing that really makes this merger OK for me. And then to follow up that film with Apocalypse (which Fox announced before DOFP even came out)...

While I think for the purpose of the story, the theatrical cut worked a bit better (the stakes felt higher when Kitty was injured. It became ‘will they or won’t they make it?’ While with Rogue coming in, it took that away a bit) I do prefer to watch the Rogue cut because of those reasons. They really had such a great cast, probably one of the best casts ever. Too many of them were way underused (and I’m speaking as a huge fan of the films)

I really hope one of the more underused cast members pop up in The Gifted, though I’m sure that is highly unlikely.

Yes, I think a lot of folks around here are a bit "glass is half full" in their nostalgia. While I actually am a bit disappointed in what we're seeing from Sophie so far (though it's way too early to offer full judgement), I know Tye Sheridan is a much better actor than James Marsden. I liked Jimmy and wished he had more to do, but I can already tell from the trailer that despite being on the young side, Sheridan's "giving more" as Cyke, just as it's pretty clear that Sophie is giving less than Famke. For what it's worth, I also think Alexandra Shipp is a better Storm (not actor, but she at least can do the damn accent and not look bored) than Halle, but neither ever seem to get anything to work with. That actually is the biggest course correction I welcome from Marvel in a few years.

FoX was wrong to toss them for the younger versions. Lmao Apocalypse underperformed as the result.

The OT adult cast battling a better version of Apocalypse in the present would have been sweet. Singer always said he wanted to introduce Apocalypse since very early on when doing Xmen films so its a big shame it was the X-kids fighting Him in their debuts which doesnt sit right.

Dofp in 2014 Rogue cut 2015,only three years. The Ot was so charismatic...,The New recast it’s not

I think if X5 was released in 2016 and itwas as bad as Apocalypse I would have been more frustrated. Though i would prefer to see a bad film with a good cast than a bad film with those younger version and Mystique taking the spotlight. Also a x6 would have been overshadowed by Disney's merger and delays and of course it would suck if Kinberg is also directing. Though the cast that started this franchise should have headlined the final foXverse film. Also a Deadpool/New Mutants/The Gifted cross over would have been more possible if only they tried to make the most out of the ot cast instead of just Hugh/Patrick. It feels like this franchise is ending in such a bad note. Continuity doesn't make sense. Younger version ar back yet again despite not being as markatble as the ot cast, Kinberg directing and is the sole writer. Its gonna be embarrassing when it got bad reviews and when it underperformed and most people are just ready for the mcu reboot. FoX has no one to blame but themselves.

The showrunner on Gifted should get some original members to reprise their roles on that show. Most of those actors do TV work primarily now anyway and it would probably boost the shows ratings a little it they guest starred for a arc or made a cameo

Shouldn't be that hard to get Marsden, Page, Paquin, Cudmore, Ashmore or Janssen

Not sure it would have made much difference personally.

Lets look at X1 for example and see what they did with the adult X-Men. now if we go that logic you would picture a big cool battle between the adult X-Men and the brotherhood. but in execution that wasn't quite what you got when it really comes down to it.

I definitely don’t disagree, but of course Sheridan is going to be better, we will be seeing much more of him compared to Marsden as Cyclops. He never really had anything to do or say. Maybe it’s still too early to truly judge, but I think that overall, the original cast was much stronger than the newer cast, personally speaking.

I think the idea was cool and I personally enjoyed Apocalypse, but it was definitely a step down from DOFP.
Had they given the original cast a proper send off and then go with the younger cast, that would have been ideal.
I felt that the original casts story just wasn’t complete yet. One more film would have been perfect or like I said earlier, they should have extended the future scenes in DOFP.
(If only they had waited and let Singer do both SR and X3. I think then they would have had a more proper ending)

Also, one thing that really bugs me and I know it’s more of a superficial complaint, but I just really don’t like the fact that Sophie Turner just looks nothing like Famke in the slightest. The rest of the cast are believable enough to be the younger versions of the originals, except Sophie. She has a great look for the character, but not this version of the character. Of course, this is not a big enough issue for me to hate the films or anything, just something small that bugs me.

I’d love this. I think Paquin would be a great choice since she was criminally underused in the films and she’s married to one of the main cast members, so it probably wouldn’t be too difficult to convince her.
Seeing Cyclops or Jean would be insane, but don’t know how Jean could fit in.
