Captain Marvel and Dark Phoenix were always going to end up in competition with each other because of their similarities in having women leads, skrull aliens and originally similar release dates.
In one aspect, how do people feel about the marketing of Dark Phoenix from a feminist POV? Captain Marvel is obviously pushing quite strongly with its first superheroine angle and strong, independent female lead, much like Wonder Woman did. So far for Dark Phoenix I haven't seen or felt that. Its being marketed as any normal Xmen movie wheras Kinberg has repeatedly said this is Jeans film, she is front and centre and shes on all the posters. Should Fox be making more of a deal about this and honing in attention to the fact this film is the Captain Marvel/Wonder Woman of their franchise?
They are two different stories though.
Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman are stories which have the women as the protagonists and them fighting for the greater good. That (which I'm glad ) allows for makerting of "female power".
Dark Pheonix has Jean essentially as the anatagonist. The story will deal with the corruption of power, manipulation, anger, lust hate etc. It's diffcult to market that as "positive female empowerment".
Now I assuming the film will end similar to the comic were we have Jean overcoming the Dark Pheonix. Thus, there will be female empowerment with Jean choosing her own fate for the greater good. But you can't exactly market that wihtout spoling the film.
