Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Captain Marvel and Dark Phoenix were always going to end up in competition with each other because of their similarities in having women leads, skrull aliens and originally similar release dates.

In one aspect, how do people feel about the marketing of Dark Phoenix from a feminist POV? Captain Marvel is obviously pushing quite strongly with its first superheroine angle and strong, independent female lead, much like Wonder Woman did. So far for Dark Phoenix I haven't seen or felt that. Its being marketed as any normal Xmen movie wheras Kinberg has repeatedly said this is Jeans film, she is front and centre and shes on all the posters. Should Fox be making more of a deal about this and honing in attention to the fact this film is the Captain Marvel/Wonder Woman of their franchise?

They are two different stories though.

Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman are stories which have the women as the protagonists and them fighting for the greater good. That (which I'm glad ) allows for makerting of "female power".

Dark Pheonix has Jean essentially as the anatagonist. The story will deal with the corruption of power, manipulation, anger, lust hate etc. It's diffcult to market that as "positive female empowerment".
Now I assuming the film will end similar to the comic were we have Jean overcoming the Dark Pheonix. Thus, there will be female empowerment with Jean choosing her own fate for the greater good. But you can't exactly market that wihtout spoling the film.

it's complicated
maybe if fox did the same kind of marketing that WW and CM are getting, people would say "this movie is selling the woman like crazy and killer, that's not cool," I really do not know if that kind of marketing would work with DP.
WW and CM are women who are fighting an evil
DP is a jean that kills his parents, who is going to kill very innocent and has his dark and dangerous side, so it gets complicated. I do not know what the best strategy for this movie is.

Thats where you have to think in depth about this stuff. i think alot of fans look at other comic book films marketing and just want all that stuff too.

Its like oh it worked for deadpool so DP should get Deadpools marketing team... yeah but there is a big difference to how they marketed Deadpool and how its best to market a film like DP.

Do you think they will add flame/light effects to Jeans telekinesis, now that she will have absorbed the full force?
Similar to her powers in the New Xmen.

Looking at the leaked "cinema figures" we see Jeans hand is a translucent yellow.

And comparing the first DoFP trailer with the others it's remarkable how many of the shots had little to no VFX (human Colousus punching thin air).

I wonder if they will add effects to Jean crushing the police cars/ pulling down the helicopter.

I really hope the new trailer comes this week.

the time is getting very short, it will not be a good sign if this month is over and we do not have at least some unreleased material from the movie, new photos, posters and so on.

I honestly dont understand how the actors are already doing press when we're just in Feb and the movie doesnt come out until June.

Is For rushing the promo tour just in case or what? lol

They likley have it in their contracts since the films would have came out on Valetines day.
I assume many will be working on other projects that will stop them from doing press around June. At the very least it unlikely they would be able to get them ALL together again.
Though I expect (given how big the cast is) they will be able to get some for talk show promotion like Graham Norton.

could be the reason.
about June tour....... as long as we get Tye, Sophie, Alexandra doing promo together, Id be happy

I don't think interviews this early on are going to help a June release.
Not in isolation, with no new trailer playing in youtube and other media... Is the strategy to continue doing these interviews nonstop until June? Is that even doable for an actor's schedule? Contract to promote or not, there have to be reasonable limits.

..I’d assume these interviews won’t be released online until May/June. They are probably just recording now because like others said, that’s when they were scheduled with the initial release date this week.

Makes sense

Considering the movie was originally supposed to come out in November, you really think their contracts would've had them doing press three months later?

Kinberg and Fox couldn't even schedule reshoots properly.

well, Kinberg probably only expected small reshoots, but........ sh** happens sometimes :funny:

not, if Kinberg gave more screentime for Magneto (his fave character, told by Kinberg himself)

She doesn't know whether she'll be involved, exactly what I said. She'll still be listed in credit as she has with the Fox franchise which, as I stated, could be part of her contract.
I think you’re on to something. I think Donner owns the rights to the characters, however she signed over all the creative rights to Fox.
Fox and soon Disney has all creative control over the X-Men. They can do whatever they want to the X-Men and she has no say in the matter.
I think she owns all the live action X-Men intellectual property.
Fox let her have control over the X-Men, but Disney is giving that control to Feige. Either way, she going to get paid.

This happens a lot in Hollywood, small production companies who owns IP will sign with a big studio, the big studio will get creative control and distributions right because they are financing the movie. But often time the big studio will have that same small production companies to create the movie. This what happen with Donner and Fox, also with Matthew Vaughn with the Kingsman.
But Disney don’t work that way. Disney rarely works with independent producers, they producers are employees and Disney owns all the IP.
But now because of the merger Disney will work with these independent producers that have an existing contract with Fox.
Fox has put everything on hold that hasn’t started production. Kingsman was suppose to start shooting last month, but was stop. Disney want to get their producers involved.

So, are we getting a new trailer the 28 or not? At this point if the movie flops is gonna be 100% Fox fault, they are practically hiding the movie, i dont see the logic in the lack of promotion.
