Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I feel it will likely be worked into the MCU, like Deadpool.
As you mentioned it seems odd to market Dark Phoenix as the climax of the fox x-men movie franchise (which is including Logan and Deadpool) to then release New Mutants.

It seems odd to delay it another year (presumably for reshoots = more money put into it) if they only in tend for it to be a single film. Especially when it could just be released on streaming as is

Overall it seems a good candidate for insertion into the MCU:

- it's the beginning of a new franchise.
- presumably like Deadpool it wouldn't have major connections to the main fox series and they could be edited out (eg removing a James Macvoy cameo).
- a good cast of young actors; especially Maise Williams and Anya Taylor Joy.
- a new bunch of characters not explored yet on the big screen (outside sunspot in DoFP)
- the story seems relatively isolated and small so could be reworked in reshoots for MCU references.
- the trailer itself makes it seems like mutants are new phenomenon/they don't know they're mutants ("do know know where mutants are?")

Ultimately that would give the three "mutant franchises" for the MCU: Deadpool/x-force, New Mutants and a rebooted main team.
Or...

Disney is waiting for Dark Phoenix to come out and then they'll announce what will *actually* happen to New Mutants. Just like I think Feige will wait for after Dark Phoenix comes out before he talks openly about his X-men.

Disney and Iger are having their cake and eating it too. They know selling Dark Phoenix on nostalgia, on the "Legacy" (see special trailers) of this franchise's 20 years is their best option to get the most gains. The First Class cast just has not caught on, especially in North America. Box office receipts from First Class and Apocalypse proves this. So they'll say this movie is the culmination of a 20 year journey (it's actually 19 but who's counting. Twenty years just sounds better), and they'll get the better-loved OT cast to sit down to film videos talking about the franchise.

If Disney cancels New Mutants' theatrical release now (or if they didn't announce a replacement date), before Dark Phoenix's June 7th release, that would negatively impact the latter's box office chances. It's akin to Kevin Feige openly discussing *his* X-men movies or worse (better?) yet showing a mutant cameo in Endgame: "Dark Phoenix will be okay but wait til you guys see *our* X-men!"

For better or worse, Dark Phoenix's gains at the box office are now Disney's. Iger and Disney won't do anything that will handicap those gains. Up to and including cancelling New Mutants NOW BEFORE Dark Phoenix has had its shot. Keeping New Mutants in that August release date would mean holding on to theatres and screens that they know they won't need. Hence the move to a later date.

So what's more likely, Disney loved a film, New Mutants, that Fox hated to the point where Fox moved it 4 (?) times? Or Disney is playing a little sleight of hand, the deception game?

Does anyone know what the opening night IMAX fan event entails? My theater has the fan event an hour earlier then the regular showing, but is it worth it?

You get little extras like special posters, commemorative coins and maybe popcorn and soda. Check the theater chain's website to see exactly what you will get for the higher ticket price.

From what I gather you get to see the film an hour earlier. It sounds like the movie starts immediately, no trailers. There's usually some exclusive behind the scenes content, and in this case there's a commerative keychain for those that go.

Beautiful!
I wasn't a fan of the trajectory the character was taken in as the franchise "progressed" but it can't be denied Anna really did look like Rogue at the very end of her stint there.
Her looks matured since x3 and in Dofp, she already looked the part unlike in the first three films. Too bad, they didn't utilize her along with the other cast members after Dofp. Seeing Anna Paquin as Rogue finally getting to real action, next to Iceman, Storm, Cyclops and the Wolverine would have been eXciting.

Thanks! I wasn't planning on seeing it in IMAX, but I might have to

Outside the Magento NYC one (obvious wires ) I think the flying looks good.

Jeans taking off looked good to me; simile superman/Shazam flying . And Magneto on geonsha made it looks like he was using pushing himself off the earth magnetic field since he isn't wearing metal.

Storms flying looks fantastic in the train sequence in the shot were she hits the alien minion beast throws. She looks she is actually balancing on wind which allows her move her body make the poses and looks weightless.
I just don't see why the New Mutants version of foX that didnt have the input of Feige and company from day 1 would be the introduction to the Mutants in the MCU. Also the fox version looks so highly unfaithful to the comics version. Marvel Studios is better off starting from scratch, instead of salvaging a finished film that was delayed trice by Fox.

FoX is marketing and calling, the Dark PhoeniX as the end of the saga, as the FC cast had a film with the ot cast before and that its their fourth film in the series, unlike the New Mutants film, who are featuring actors who haven't appeared in previous films.

Yeah I’m not liking New Mutants chances. I feel like it’ll be moved to Disney + eventually. I don’t see the point at this stage. I do still want to see what they were going to offer but I don’t think this will be the introduction of mutants into the MCU.

I'm seeing a lot of good stuff...

... but I'm also starting to think I'm seeing too much haha. I was always going to see this movie and I was always going to be excited, but kudos to the marketing for making me a little less ambivalent.

Nice!
I’ve got that TV Guide (with Cyclops on the cover) which I bought in Chicago. And I’ve got that EW Summer 2000 Preview.
