Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Perfect representation of what was being discussed a few weeks back. Fox has done nothing to keep the X-Men relevant with the GP, so kids and teens need something like this because they have no idea who these characters are. So yeah the ad is stupid but it makes perfect sense.
Fox really didn't have the resources to market the way Disney did for the MCU because of the licensing agreements.

What Disney has done is remarkable, but it's a completely different beast. I remember after the first Avengers movie, I'd see pictures of Disney stores in malls overflowing with superhero stuffed animals and an absurd explosion of garbage merchandise. I'm glad little kids are getting to enjoy what I first discovered in comic books when I was young, but the edge and appeal has been neutered for me, and that's why most of the MCU movies aren't my thing.

I'm hoping that if Disney does make X-Men more family friendly, they keep the message of tolerance in there.

Fox simply doesn’t know what an embarrassment of riches they’ve got with the X-men. Afterall, they’ve just been focusing on the same 3-4 characters, and having fan faves as mutes and glorified-extras.
This I will definitely agree with. And I will never understand why even when they had to put in smaller characters, they always chose baffling ways to do it. Psylocke in XM:A had like three lines... give her the damn accent. I love FC and they did actually try to introduce a bunch of new characters, but the choices were... kinda WTF haha.

Well really Marvel stopped merchandising X-Men after Origins. i remember loads of X-Men origins merchandise, video games and toys, then it just kind of stopped.

After that i suppose would Marvel have helped push the selling to children or would they have held back on it? kinda seemed like they were holding back on it intentionally.

But in a way, the lack of selling to kids is what allowed us to get films like Deadpool and Logan. which is less down to selling merch and more creative integrity.

Man, Psylocke was wasted in Apocalypse :csad: I loved what little we got but we should have had more.

It doesn’t show a whole lot of confidence the studio has in the movie but it would be kind of out of practice for the embargo to lift before the red carpet premier, which is on the 4th.

Also true.

Ummm...Deadpool has more merch AND TOYS FOR KIDS than most X-men not named Wolverine. And I would argue he's got more merch and toys than Wolverine, right now.

When Marvel releases merch with limited character selection, Deadpool is usually one of the top 10 after Iron Man, Cap, Thor, Hulk, Spidey, Black Widow, and one of the Guardians. Sadly he's the biggest X-character right now, usurping Wolverine's standing.

Anyways, you guys really think a movie that spoiled that Dark Phoenix killing Mystique in their trailer is worried about spoilers?

I don't think that it's about spoilers. Deadpool 2's embargo lifted only 3 days before release and I don't think that they worried about spoilers back then. I might be wrong, though.

Fox with Deadpool 2 was worried that the reviews would hurt their opening weekend. That's why they lifted the embargo late. That's why most movies lift their embargo late. That's what Dark Phoenix is probably doing...

Uh huh. Ok y’all.

The movie is out on the 5th in 3 big markets. So the embargo literally lifts the day before. Heck, day of depending on time zones.

Well, the reviews came out to be pretty positive. So, fingers crossed? Haha, I'm cautiously optimistic about this movie. I know almost every one of you guys want to get to the MCU reboot as quickly as possible and I want that too. But this series that started in 2000 is my childhood and some of the first movies that I watched in a theater. I'm excited about the final one.

I think to have embargo so near have little to do with movie's quality and a very little to do about spoilers.

Nowdays with the short-life that have news and articles (that's the reason we have for the same movie many stories/interviews in different days) it's very important to have the max firepower near the first days.

So they should've just released all three trailers the day before release then? Maybe they should release one trailer a day, with three trailers before June 7th.
They should only sell tickets the day before release and not weeks before?

Maximize good news right?
There really isn't anything "LOLOLOLOL" worthy about an embargo lifting three days before the premiere. Make it the same day, like Aladdin, I'd be worried.
Nah there would probably still be an excuse then. "Kinberg wants to drum up excitement!" "Aladdin lifted day of- and they're still *almost* Fresh!"

There’s literally nothing spoiler related regarding Dark Phoenix. This isn’t Endgame, which was a massive cultural experience build up for a decade.

What is it about Dark Phoenix, which is going to open to a measly 50mil that needs to be kept secret?

Is there a positivity thread or something? Obviously anyone who anticipates this movie should feel bad about it.

The only thing I can think of is Chastain's character's identity and even then it seems like Kinberg and Jessica have stopped teasing that as this big, eventual reveal. I'm old enough to remember the initial premise of this movie back in 2017 saying there was going to be a big world-changing, earth-shattering twist to the plot and they've also stopped selling it as that.

I also wonder about that twist. Like you said they used to make a very big deal about it.

Yeah it’s not about spoilers whatsoever. Like @JP said, this isn’t Endgame. They know spoilers are out, what’s left to keep secret? I mean, I’ve been leaking the entire thing for months lol.

I think it’s about the staggering of releases. Every movie this season has the embargo lift so close to release because of the press workload. This year is packed in ways we haven’t seen before. Godzilla comes out in a few days and has been 100% completed for over 6 months.

This movies red carpet has been fluctuating between the 3rd and 4th for months now, which is late for a red carpet premier.
