Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

Cant be copying Captain Marvel as endzone pointed out the original release date for Dark Phoenix was months earlier than Captain Marvel.

It would be funny if the movies final fight was ripping off something like Fan4stic and the studio saw it and said, no not again Simon

It was always a mystery who actually planned to have Quicksilver first... you cant really find the answer for that one. But, in that case, it's not who was first, it's who was better, and I think we all know who was better haha.

Psylocke's hair inspired by Gamora? Really? lmfao. No no, that legit made me lol.

Not what I was saying at all.

I don’t mind the new suits, but they are a bit dull, especially after we were teased with those at the end of the last film.
And considering they don’t seem to be wearing the costumes besides for the first bit of the film, i definitely don’t see why they couldn’t have worn those or something similar
This is another thing I don't like about the movie. In every X-Men movie, there is always someone new to look forward to. But we are only getting the unnamed/unidentified alien who doesn't even look like an alien. Selene, Red Lotus and Dazzler are barely seen in the promos.

Then these dull costumes and like I've said, Dark PhoeniX have been done before. Its just hard to get really eXcited.

To copy the film they would have to of seen the film. Were they granted access to a really early screening? I doubt it.

interesting this debate around which film would have a similar ending;
but we all know that apparently this original ending was not being well received in the test sessions, I think the reason for the change was this and not because of similarity to another movie. (although there were similarities with CM by the trailer shown in Russia)
but the main reason was this, that previous ending was bad, and maybe disney also said "hey, it's a bit alike and bad, change it"

and I think it's good that it has changed, I can imagine a lot of criticism of this if it were similar to CM

In Milan, Italy (5 min away from me), tonight there will be a FREE PREVIEW of the film for only 200 (sposored by Xiaomi phones)

But i cannot go :(

About tha changed end: i remember that there was a meeting Kinberg & Feige: maybe they talking about that, so even if officialy Disney cannot have a world...

the ending is pretty much same tho. difference is mostly on new final battle place and seems like more actions were added

When did those reshoot rumors start circulating? I seem to recall it being around the time that the Fox/Disney merger was picking up major steam. I don't think that's a coincidence.

I think their third act was originally intended to be something of a cliffhanger leading into a larger universe, at least for one more film.

Until it wasn't, and had to essentially be reworked into the summation/end of the franchise. That would also help explain why it went from space to a more earthbound humans VS mutants type of conflict.

McAvoy didn't say DP was copying anything, he said another film (that wasn't out yet) had a similar third act. Someone made a timeline of the merger on another site, and DP's delay and reshoots fit with the announcements. We know Feige "inspected" the script long before the merger was finalized. There's a shot in the leaked Russian trailer that looks exactly like a shot in Captain Marvel. That glowing Phoenix form is not in the film anymore.

One of the reasons for Disney's success and high quality is that they micromanage everything. They dislike competition. I think this theory works well with their history and business model, after all DP has been destined to be a Disney asset for a long time.

This sounds like the most plausible explanation for what happened. There were reports that Marvel Studios folks took a more active role in Dark Phoenix subsequent to the buy out announcement - Fassie's "spies" on the set. And it makes sense that the Mouse would prefer two of its superhero movies, released within months of each other, didn't both end with a glowy lady destroying an invading alien armada.

Pathological liars. Always have been.

But...they are introducing new people...?
Everybody complains that any new character introduced doesn’t get much screentime anyway, so I don’t see the point.

The lack of costumes are a bit disappointing, but I don’t think it’s “make or break” anyway. From what I’ve read, it makes sense why they aren’t in costume.

Anyway, I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve been pretty content with what I’ve seen thus far and I’m hoping the film is good and does well.

I don’t see the point in hating on it. The series is done after this. We know they’re moving on. Let people enjoy what they want to enjoy. It’s the end of the franchise.

Trying to figure out why the creatives would lie about the third act/reshoots in a way that makes the third act sound LESS interesting/comic booky/big in scale...can't really think of a good reason.

The costume thing is kind of funny to me, actually.

"Well, it seems the multi colored costumes were only a cameo/tease thing. So if we can't get multi colored 90's suits throughout a whole film, can we at least have more traditional blue costumes with maybe like, the yellow X design somewhere? That worked nicely in First Class and would probably be okay."

(Production team puts X-Men in blue costumes with big yellow X's)

"No, not like that! If it doesn't have usless piping like Marvel's costumes or those suits we all claim to hate from the original trilogy, or has visible wrinkles and looks like actual material, it just looks like cosplay! Which is what we accused those 90's suits of being, but now want back!"

Really where's the hate in that post? Also the problems of this franchise and its films won't disappear and be forgotten after Dark PhoeniX is released.

Anyway, I was planning to see it in the opening day which is neXt Wednesday. But I'll watch it in the weekend since someone is gonna pay for the ticket and not me, so it will save me some money.

People are utterly ridiculous. Someone on Twitter was telling people to watch Endgame instead of Dark Phoenix, because "source material matters". How misguided.

I could see that argument in regards to Infinity War. That film borrowed a decent amount from Starlin's Thanos Quest & Infinity Gauntlet stories as well as Hickman's Infinity. But while Endgame had nods to Secret Empire, A-Force and (surprisingly) Spidey Super Stories, the story isn't based on any Avengers comic books. The primary inspiration is the prior Marvel Studios films.

Art, Capitalism, And Dealing With The Dragon Of Disappointment

Fandom can often seem the worst aspect of any given media franchise today. While most fans are positive about what they love, many aren’t, and toxic voices easily drown out the rest. Many fandoms are affected by this kind of rot, but the rot itself always exhibits the same characteristics - vicious hatred towards art that doesn’t meet their tastes, capitalistic ownership over creators, and entitlement to have a say in how art is made. It makes being a more-positive fan exhausting, and it has the potential to turn creators off creating things altogether.

Really great article that pin points the stem and root of the problem.

Literally not one person said any of that.
