Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

No one's forcing Rogue to do anything. You do realize Rogue only wanted--and ultimately took--the cure because the script (from two hacks and a director who doesn't get the concept of the X-men) told you right?

It's not something she would have taken. Yes she would be tempted to cure herself because life is hard but in every iteration of the character in any other medium, she's always made the opposite choice from the movie.

Yeah. I know she wouldn't make this in other iterations, but I don't have problem that she does in this iteration (it may helps that I didn't know much about X-men comic the first time I see the film).

My point is that Rogue makes her decision, although there is pressure for her to continue having her powers. This is the point.

PS: The script guides all characters in all films.

I mean look she is very openly liberal with her politics. But besides that, I just think it's not OK for Mystique to be "hiding" especially around other mutants when there's no real explanation for it. Even in the comics, Mystique tends to be a very prideful person.

IMHO to me the message sets a bad precedent against X-Men's anti-prejudice messages and being who you are.

Yes, I get it, from a practical standpoint, Lawrence doesn't want to wear the blue paint and heavy makeup. Alright, but there's never an in storyline reason explaining why she does it.

Remember the phenomenal scene in X-2 when Nightcrawler ask Mystique why just not stay hidden from everyone then she answers CAUSE WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO yeah that's MYSTIQUE

not the garbage that Lawrence is doing

Jesus effin Christ man

I will never forgive Singer or Kingberg for having storm be a fangirl for Mystique in these latest movies
I can't roll my eyes back enough on that scene in XDOFP

Be fair. If I had to bet money, I'd bet it that the heroic focus on Mystique didn't come from Kinberg. It came from the studio execs, as a mandate once they realized how big Jennifer Lawrence was becoming. So while Kinberg's hack skills are why it was executed in the dumbest laziest way possible, he probably didn't originate the idea.

I can conceded that but if Lawrence truly cared about the character she would have used her new found pull and say no that is not who she is and will be betraying the character no she used her pull to not wear the make up that is not debatable

Honestly, I doubt JLaw cared one way or the other. She just showed up and read lines. Even if JLaw did what you suggest, the studio has no obligation to listen to her. Them making Mystique a hero is not her fault. Her disinterested performance would be her fault, though.

I've been telling you all for ages and ages that Mystique is mischaracterised and JLaw is miscast. The actress is an ungrateful self-absorbed brat.

The studio no doubt wanted her in it, and Kinberg went along with it to further his career/reputation.

It sounds like everyone is badly portrayed in Dark Phoenix, which sounds like X3 all over again, and we know the common factor between those two films...

Holy crap. Only $5 for Thursday night. XMA did $8.2...

I said it’s obvious in the post they quoted. You want me to end this sure. Save the following and I very much look forward to a PM from you saying my bad on June 7th.
As the camera pans up from Charles and Erik at the cafe we’ve seen set photos of, to show the full cityscape of Paris, with the Eiffel Tower in the background, on the left of the Tower you’ll see a red flicker and then it’s wings flap as it’s moving to the left across the screen and speeds out of frame. Then it cuts out with Written and Directed by Simon Kinberg
I’m sure you “figured it out based on what’s already been shown”, huh.

Absolutely feel free to contribute to conversation but maybe excercise a bit of maturity and just feel free to not respond to me if you’re going to just come at me for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Thanks for quoting me this time.

Xavier retires and the other team members (including a living Quicksilver) remain at the mansion as teachers headed by Beast. He keeps a photo of Raven on his desk and Cyclops changes the exterior plaque to one that says “Jean Grey School for Higher Learning.” News reports say Jean basically saved the world. Xavier and Magneto meet in Paris and share a game of chess as the camera pans up to a phoenix in the sky.

Congratulation @icekid & @The Original Bamfer

You were both right. It's proved once again that you both are trusted scooper. Unlike certain *other* people.

Wash your mouth out. Kelsey Grammer was perfect!

Just got back from seeing it (one of maybe 10 people in there). It is not good.

Please tell me this can be located. We should all haunt Kinberg's twitter with choice quotes.
I believe the server where it was hosted is no longer up. I'll see what I can find.

I do remember this Q&A happening. I wasn't involved in it, but I think I did pop in there at some point when I saw others in here talking about it.

That’s why I think her role in DOFP was the only good one. She was still the sneaky Mystique. Even at the end of the film, anything could have happened following it. She could have still gone on her own completely and become a sort of anti hero (much like she was in her solo series).
It was really in Apocalypse where it all went haywire.
I didn’t even mind her role in FC either. Every character has to start somewhere. It would have been more interesting if even after FC and DOFP, her destiny was still to become more like how she was in the OT, or at least just a bit more ruthless.

That would have contradicted the core theme of DoFP. The entire point of the ending was to prove that we're in control of our own fate and not pre-destined for evil.

It's a slap in the face because when that's happened to Rogue in the past in the comics, she turned it down.

Rogue has to have an acceptance that her powers can also be a gift and not her curse.
She even turned it down in the freaking first animated show she was in, when it was "Dr Adler" that offered her the cure.
It was completely off character, and against the core message of what the X-Men have always been about.

Yeah, that’s very true. But, I still think making her a full blown hero wasn’t the right way to go.

No luck. Even the domain has been taken over by some guy doing Bingo hall reviews...

There might be some copies of those chats in the old hype threads from 2005 - 2006, but I've had no luck finding them here either.

If Dark Phoenix follows XMA’s multiplier it’s gonna come in at 40 mil or less for the weekend. This is such a disaster.

He was perfect. This mouth needs no rinsing on that!

I would love to have seen him as Beast one last time. Maybe some sort of time travel interaction with the prequel cast in Dark Phoenix.

Hopefully his voice is used for a CGI Beast in the MCU!

I would have loved to have seen GrammerBeast team up with Jackman for a road trip film after TLS. Something like Midnight Run but with superheroes.
