Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I’m just waiting for the positive spin on these negative reactions.

I don’t get your motivation anymore. Before, you gave people a hard time because they were positive. Now that they’re not positive towards the film - I’ve openly expressed my dissatisfaction and disappointment with it - you’re just going to ignore that, pretend that they’re (I’m) still positive so that you still have (nonexistent) justification to continue treating them (me) like ****?

Yeah. It’s a snooze fest. Like, if it was a FF/Batman Forever crapfest that would have been more enjoyable. I think that’s why some are saying it’s not “terrible”. Listen, it IS. It’s just not bad in an embarrassing way. It’s bad in a “absolutely boring” and “no plot whatsoever” way.

I have a question for anyone who might know.

Was Olivia Munn supposed to return in this and was she gonna be the Selene role?

If so she’s smart to not have come back.
She was supposed to return and take the Psychic role in Genosha.

However she was filming The Predator and couldn't go to Dark PhoeniX and Kinberg replaced her with another female telepath. Anyway, she dodged a bullet here as she probably would just stand there with a very bland costume. The Predator sucked but she had an important role in the movie, she was the second lead character. And i was like damn, I wish Olivia had the same importance in the X-Men movies.

Aw man that would have been so cool! Loved her in a Apocalypse. Probably my favorite (non)character in that movie lol.

Well to be honest, she was the driving force of that movie for me. Wasted but my eyes were glued into the screen when she was in it. And her eXit was over the top negative that I loved it. But I guess its for the best, her role in Dark PhoeniX would have been smaller and we would have complained that they wasted Psylocke again.

Yeah, still, would have loved to see her again in any way shape or form!

Just got out. Quick thought.........,

I didnt think it was bad. Maybe it was my supremely low expectations but i enjoyed....most of it. You can tell its a little sloppy and rewritten but i felt it was competently filmed, acted and dramatized.

More later. But this movie isnt an abomination.

Yeah I thought so. That role seemed like it was meant to be for Olivia but she would’ve just stood around doing very little even less than in Apoc.

Also spoiler
She would’ve been killed cause Selene was thrown from a train car by an alien

Oh my God. I was scrolling tweets related to Dark PhoeniX and I loled so hard, when someone asked what happened to Magneto in 8 years to age rapidly in 2000 and there's 3 pictures of Fassbender and 1 pic of Ian in it. lol!

I can't embed it here since it contained the f word.

This was about onpar with Apocalypse for me. Just disappointing. The biggest problem with the movie is how rushed everything is, how underdeveloped certain components are (Like Scott and Jean's relationship) and how Kinberg recycles the same basic plot elements from all of the X-Men films. Charles' arc also felt very contrived and manufactured. And Mystique's conflict with him sort of came out of nowhere, she seems to be a crutch they use, morphing into any sort of character they need to progress the plot. Sophie did the best she could and I enjoyed her performance. All of the acting was great, minus Lawrence -- who is so obviously phoning it in at this point, it's laughable.

Overall, it's nowhere near the dumpster fire a lot of people are making it out to be. This is not the Fant4stic of the X-Men and it's nowhere near as godawful as Origins. It's just.. More of the same we've been getting from Fox but with Jean getting a major focus and half baked plot contrivances

The kids in the audience seemed to be into it, probably because of the short run time and they don't really waste time building up to stuff.

Does this put to rest the fan theories that the X-Men & FF couldn't crossover at Fox due to rights issues?

I'm still willing to bet they would have needed Marvel's permission to pull the trigger.

Having not read any of the reviews in-depth, I honestly expect to not outright hate the movie. I probably won't like it but so many of the headlines, this review included, sound identical to what I've been saying about this franchise for quite some time.

The audience I was with seemed to like the movie a lot. Oddly enough Storm got the bIggest cheers during her standout action moments.

I thought Sophie Turner was really good in this. I was pleasantly surprised with how she carried this movie and sold the drama.

The movie’s damning flaw is its so damn short. The third act comes so quick that you could feel something went wrong in the editing room and a lot of plot got gutted. 20-30 mins to flesh out the drama and conflict couldve really added weight and emotional scale to this film.

But im gonna be honest guys, ive been right there with y’all cursing Kindberg’s name this past week and I dont think he deserves it. Definitely some first time director problems in this but I think his heart was definitely in the right place while making this. Theres EFFORT clearly put into this movie unlike Xmen Origins and Last Stand where nearly every scene was just offensive cartoon buffonery and incompetent filmmaking on display. Kindberg tried, it just....didnt work out the way it should have.

not sure why it got ****ted on by critics but u know how movie game is these days it’s a dark serious movie that’s much better than Apocalypse & the last stand. the first half was great and after the jeans house fight everything else happened sooooooo fast.. but i did enjoy had low expectations and was well aware at the type of film we were gonna get way before the 1st initial trailer was ever released.

The general audience seems to into it based on the reactions I have seen on Twitter search.

Agreed about it being too short.

Its boring if you are deeply a story person because it’s not really fleshed out. But if you want a serviceable action movie, it’s entertaining.

Yeah, it seems like a crowd pleasing type of movie. Similar to Venom.

Not gonna make Venom’s money though and quite honestly if i had to pick, i think this movie deserved to be more successful than Venom.

For anyone who cares Dark Phoenix has a "B"-
on Cinemascore... that's even worse than the franchise's previously worst reviewed film X-Men Origins: Wolverine which at least had a 'B+' Cinemascore. And that's a decline from Apocalypse's "A-" Cinemascore.

This movie is not going to have a good box office run at all I suspect. I expect very weak holdovers for this one, and even at my theater I saw this at very few audiences I felt were truly connecting with the film. I heard a few mild claps, little applause but almost no laughs. I saw the film with a female friend of mine that disliked the film and who's just a regular moviegoer who likes superhero movies, and she called the movie, "joyless".
