Dark Phoenix X-Men: Dark Phoenix News and Speculation Thread - - - - - - Part 15

I'm honestly sad. They did it. The really ran this series in the ground.

Poor, poor Dark Phoenix, flying in with the lowest opening for an X-Men movie ever with $33.9M after being the worst reviewed at 22% Rotten and the worst received with a B- CinemaScore (lowest ever for the franchise) and ComScore/Screen Engine PostTrak’s of 3 stars among general audiences, 69% positive and a low 49% definite recommend. Despite having better exits than Dark Phoenix with an 81% positive and A- CinemaScore, moviegoers weren’t amused with technically the last PG-13 X-Men movie, Apocalypse, and they showed that with their wallets: 4-day projections of $100M dropped to $79.8M during its opening, and stateside, the film is the second-lowest grossing X-Men movie at $155.4M, with First Class being the lowest at $146.4M.
‘The Secret Life Of Pets 2’ Beating ‘Dark Phoenix’ At Box Office – Deadline

WOW. That's really bad. Even though this is the end, Fox and Disney are losing money here. Heads are going to roll.

Lauren Shuler Donner is telling the truth though.

Kinberg and Singer took over after DOFP.

Donner was more involved with Legion.

And I don't know you keep posting random pictures of Kinberg. I'm reading all the negative posts then boom, here's a big picture of the man of the hour. Keep those pictures in his own thread.

It's in case we've forgotten what he looks like. :o

You know the weird part is that Simon is a really powerful guy, and he is LOVED by everyone he meets: directors, writers, producers and actors, no one in Hollywood says a bad thing about the man. And Dark Phoenix is a movie that just needed a script doctor and another director to help him out on this giant venture, he could’ve a done the somewhat grounded intimate story he wanted, he just needed help. It’s ok to ask for help sometimes Simon, remember your emotions make you strong.

This movie would have never worked as a finale though.

No Director goes out of his or her way to make a bad film. But an aspiring Director must know their own limitations before taking on a project like this.

Kinberg's ego got in his own way, and the people around him gave him terrible advice (J Law) for directing this film. Yes, there were studio issues with the sale to Disney, but a good film with good word of mouth would have made this successful.

I wish Kinberg well. I hopefully he starts to direct smaller projects to develop his skill. I hope he becomes a great Director one day. But he should never touch the X-Men or any big tentpool project again.

So I watched this movie again and it’s definitely one of those films you have to see twice because their is so much hype/expectations surrounding that it sort of takes away from you actually paying attention to things. I will say this I now see why Simon never called it the Phoenix force. In the X world that was set up in 2000 there no inclination of wizards, demons, magicians, Hulks, God’s, existing in the X-Men world unlike the MCU so to expect a complete fire bird out there is a ***** of stretch but aliens are thing that a lot of ppl believe in, write about and are jaunt popular in our culture. With that said this cosmic force was looking for a host who could contain its power but give it a meaning, a purpose, give it a form. That’s why we never see the full Phoenix effect until the end because Jean chose to give the entity, that form because the students nicknamed her Phoenix so it was a callback to them. At least that’s the conclusion I can up with (I could be wrong). I can’t speak for Kinberg but I think that what he was going for here it’s just that cosmic force as a character needed to be developed more as to why it’s so malevolent and what its true purpose.

Dammining tweet..The unravelling continues. Very sad to see it end like this; hopefuly DP doesnt tarnish the good legacy before
